00:00He's like, this is New Zealand.
00:01This is when I was in England and Scotland.
00:04And I'm like, this is when I was in Torrance in Pasadena.
00:11Wait, wait, this is me.
00:13This is me.
00:13I do know this one.
00:15This is my sorority house in Scream 2.
00:18Is that correct?
00:18We shot that in Pasadena, actually.
00:21Oh, cool.
00:21And I was, I think I had shot Buffy all day
00:23and then drove there at night and shot the entire evening
00:26in this location in Pasadena.
00:28Wow, you had shot all day on Buffy and then a whole night.
00:31Hey, you know what?
00:31You get a chance to be in Scream 2, you don't miss that.
00:34That is so awesome.
00:35Yeah.
00:35Wow.
00:36I can't believe you're alone in that house.
00:38I don't think I'm alone.
00:40My favorite memory of that was Wes Craven was a big believer
00:43that he, you don't ask your actors to do something
00:45unless you would do it too.
00:47It was the very end of the night
00:48and my character had to like be bloody broken on the ground.
00:51At that point, I'd probably been working 26 hours.
00:53Oh my God.
00:53It was cold.
00:54I was drenched in blood
00:56and he got on the ground with me
00:58and had them cover him in blood
01:00and took a picture with me
01:02so that if I had to be laying there in that mess
01:04that he did it too.
01:06And it's one of my treasured possessions
01:07is this picture of Wes.
01:08And it's a Polaroid, yeah.
01:09That's amazing.
01:11Wow, how special.
01:13Oh, it's the four or five I'm away here this morning.
01:15I know this location.
01:16I was there today.
01:17So this is Deep Impact.
01:18This is a section of highway
01:20that was closed off
01:22if I remember correctly.
01:23They had closed an entire section
01:25for us to be able to film on.
01:27So it's all these cars,
01:28everyone trying to leave the big city
01:30to escape impending doom
01:31with this asteroid
01:32that is about to...
01:34Or the four or five at rush hour.
01:36Or that too.
01:38Yeah, a lot of memories spring up for this.
01:40It was in...
01:41It was either...
01:42No, it wasn't Connecticut.
01:43West Virginia?
01:44I have Virginia here again.
01:45Virginia.
01:46Yeah, Virginia.
01:47I had to learn how to ride a motorcycle for this.
01:49Oh, that's cool.
01:49So I was 15 and then turned 16.
01:51So I got my learner's permit
01:54and got my driver's license
01:56and then was trained how to ride a motorcycle.
01:58What's a separate license too, right?
01:59It's a separate license.
02:00So I had to get my motorcycle license
02:01to be able to ride the motorcycle
02:03for this sequence.
02:04That's a cool job for a 15-year-old.
02:05It was so much fun.
02:07So yeah, this brings back memories
02:09of motorcycle riding,
02:10which was super fun for me.
02:11Or this morning.
02:13She just won't let it go.
02:16Leo made it with Leo!
02:21Oddly enough, this is also in Pasadena.
02:23This is Cruel Intentions, correct?
02:25This is the end scene
02:25where Catherine's making her eulogy
02:27for Sebastian
02:28and the diary gets sent out.
02:31Oh, yeah.
02:31I don't remember much about that.
02:33I just oddly remember
02:34that it was in Pasadena
02:35and then the iconic song starts playing.
02:38Bittersweet Symphony starts playing.
02:39Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
02:48The only thing I do remember about the book
02:50was the first time I had the book in my hands
02:52and Ryan had spent the entire movie
02:54working on the book.
02:55And so all the handwriting,
02:57all of the stories that he had made up,
02:59all that he really had done
03:01all his work on the book.
03:02Oh, that's incredible.
03:03Yeah, so that was really cool.
03:04Ryan spent a lot of time with that book.
03:05Wow, that's really amazing.
03:07Yeah, it made it really special.
03:08Yeah.
03:09I mean, I think I could guess this, but...
03:12Yeah, this is Lord of the Rings.
03:14I'm guessing this was in New Zealand?
03:15It is in New Zealand.
03:16Yeah, this was in New Zealand.
03:17This was in Wellington, actually.
03:18We shot this sequence
03:21in the first two days
03:22of principal photography
03:23on Lord of the Rings.
03:24So it was October of 1999.
03:27I can't believe you remember years.
03:28Isn't that crazy?
03:28And so that was in Mount Victoria,
03:31if I'm not mistaken, in Wellington.
03:33And this was an amazing,
03:34one of those great, iconic shots,
03:36kind of similar to Jaws,
03:37that famous shot in Jaws
03:39where it's a zoom pullback.
03:43So it's a dolly shot with a zoom.
03:45Similar sort of technique here
03:46where the background is getting closer
03:48as the camera, I think, zooms backwards.
03:51So it's a zoom in.
03:52Anyway, famous shot.
03:53That's cool.
03:53Speaking of travel,
03:54my husband's best friend
03:55is currently in New Zealand
03:56touring your set.
03:58No way!
03:59Yeah, he went on one of those new...
04:00They went on one of those trips
04:01like his wife just loves Lord of the Rings.
04:02Oh, that's awesome!
04:03And still can't believe I know you.
04:04And yes,
04:06so they are on vacation now,
04:08currently going on
04:08the Lord of the Rings,
04:09that tour that they do
04:10takes you to all the sets.
04:11Sure, sure.
04:11Oh, that's awesome.
04:12When we were making the films,
04:14people thought we were shooting in Australia
04:15because that was the country
04:17they knew in that part of the world.
04:19Now people know what New Zealand is.
04:20It's this incredibly
04:23bacalic, peaceful, beautiful place.
04:25The variety of mountains
04:27and rivers and lakes
04:29and incredible,
04:30almost subtropical,
04:31down to like super snowy mountains.
04:33It kind of is everything.
04:35When we were filming,
04:36it was only four million people.
04:37So there were, I think,
04:38four sheep to every person,
04:40which I think is still the case.
04:41I think they're outnumbered by sheep.
04:43It has since grown in population,
04:45but I don't know.
04:46It's this really peaceful,
04:48wonderful place
04:48that's far away
04:50and hidden away
04:51from the rest of the world.
04:52If I don't get this one,
04:54I'm in trouble.
04:55This is beautiful Torrance, California,
04:59about 40 minutes south of Los Angeles.
05:02And that is Sunnydale High.
05:04That's where Buffy went to school.
05:05But to me,
05:06it will always be known
05:07as West Beverly,
05:09which is where the kids
05:10went to school on 90210.
05:12All right.
05:13Yeah, so that was what
05:14that school was used for first.
05:15First.
05:19Wow.
05:20A hotbed.
05:21Who knew?
05:21So, yeah.
05:22So for me,
05:22it was always like,
05:23oh, we're shooting in the school
05:24where Brenda and Dylan were.
05:26Oh, that's amazing.
05:27Yeah.
05:28So that's what I would think of
05:29when I would see it.
05:30Now, I think people think of it
05:31as where Buffy went to school.
05:34Yeah, that's right.
05:35But we would be there
05:35while school was in session.
05:36It was very strange.
05:37Oh, wow.
05:38And also, little known fact,
05:40She's All That also showed there.
05:41Oh, wow.
05:42Yep.
05:42Very popular for filming.
05:43Yeah.
05:44You burned down the gym.
05:46I did.
05:47I really did.
05:48But you're not seeing
05:49the big picture here.
05:50I mean, that gym was full
05:51of vampi-
05:54Asbestos.
05:56Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
05:58Great movie.
05:59Yeah.
06:00Incredible film.
06:01Yeah, I felt so stoked
06:03to get to be a part of that.
06:04I was a huge fan of Michelle Gondry
06:06and Charlie Kaufman's work.
06:08I believe Joel's apartment,
06:11which is where we've sort of set up,
06:12was a set.
06:13It was a totally built set.
06:14And I can't remember.
06:15It was in Manhattan
06:15or it may have been in Brooklyn,
06:17but we were in New York.
06:18I kind of fell in love with her that night.
06:21What?
06:22You little fuck.
06:24What?
06:25She was unconscious, man.
06:27Ruffalo, getting a chance
06:28to work with him was a joy.
06:29The invention of Michelle Gondry
06:31every day,
06:32there was a sense of like
06:33not knowing what each day
06:35was going to hold
06:35and where scenes could go.
06:38There was obviously
06:39the adherence
06:40to the beautiful written word
06:42of Charlie Kaufman,
06:43but there was also a lot of like
06:45throw the script out
06:45and just laugh through a take
06:46and don't let the other actor know.
06:48And Kirsten Dunst
06:49comes into a scene with us.
06:54Oh, hi, Patrick.
06:56Hi, Mary.
06:56How's it going?
06:57Hey, you.
06:57I'm freezing inside.
06:58Michelle asked both Ruffalo
07:00and I to just laugh,
07:02like throw out all the dialogue,
07:03but not let her know.
07:05So she's just trying
07:07to stay afloat
07:08with two idiots
07:09laughing their ass off
07:10throughout the scene.
07:14Oh.
07:15Oh.
07:16Oh.
07:19Oh, oh, oh.
07:20I know what you did last summer.
07:21We shot most of the movie
07:23in North Carolina.
07:26Fun.
07:26But I'm guessing
07:28this is like the opening sequence,
07:29which was shot up north
07:30in Santa Rosa, California.
07:32Oh, no way.
07:32Which is, interestingly enough,
07:34also where they shot Scream,
07:35where the initial houses,
07:37Stumacher's house
07:38that they, like the big house
07:39in Santa Rosa.
07:40At summer's end,
07:41I plan to move to New York City
07:43where I'll pursue a career
07:44as a serious actress.
07:46All I remember
07:47was we were shooting all night
07:48and we would get off
07:49and like nothing was ever open
07:50because it's like
07:50a really small, sleepy town.
07:52And so the hours
07:52that we were awake,
07:53we could never get food.
07:54We were always like hoarding
07:55from sets.
07:56But this was like
07:56really my first adult job
07:58where I had to drive everywhere.
07:59And we were shooting
07:59in this small town
08:00about 45 minutes
08:01outside of Wilmington.
08:02And I was only like 18, 19.
08:05I must have been 19.
08:06And there was only one gym
08:08in the town.
08:08And they wouldn't let me join it
08:10because I wasn't 21.
08:11Which I didn't understand
08:11because I was like,
08:12wait, you're drinking
08:12and then going on the treadmill?
08:13Oh, what a funny thing.
08:14And so the movie tried
08:15to give them like insurance money
08:16so I'd go to the gym,
08:17but they couldn't.
08:17And so I had to drive
08:18every day into Wilmington
08:21to be able to go
08:21to like a bigger gym.
08:23And all I remember thinking
08:24was like, great,
08:24this is how these kids
08:25killed the people in the movie.
08:27And now I'm on these
08:27like dark roads
08:28and I've like just
08:28gotten my driver's license.
08:31Oh, yeah.
08:32So this is London.
08:33Green Street Hooligans.
08:34This is the pub
08:37that all of the West Ham fans
08:40attend.
08:41So in the context of the film.
08:42And I'm not even sure.
08:43I mean, it must be.
08:44It must be the actual pub
08:47that they really hang out in.
08:48There's a real adherence
08:49to accuracy
08:50in regards to the storytelling.
08:52And there are actual pubs
08:53where fans of specific teams
08:55do attend those pubs
08:57and hang out.
08:57This was a really fun movie
09:00to work on,
09:00diving into the world
09:01of football fan violence.
09:04And we had a lot of folks
09:06that were sort of consulting
09:07and part of the security team,
09:09which was interesting,
09:09of folks who had been
09:11in that world
09:12who had come from that world.
09:13So it felt very sort of omnipresent
09:15in a way that felt safe,
09:17but wild as well.
09:18We were shooting kind of in places
09:21that were sort of historically linked
09:23to the real fans
09:26and characters that were similar
09:28to characters that were represented
09:29in the script.
09:30So those folks were sort of around
09:32at all times, I think.
09:36Oh.
09:44I'd be remiss if I don't know this one.
09:45This is Ready or Not.
09:47So we shot the movie in Toronto.
09:48But this actual location
09:50is in Niagara,
09:52just like at the border.
09:53And what's so crazy about this house,
09:55this beautiful house,
09:56but if you go around the corner,
09:57like just right there,
09:58is actually Niagara Falls.
10:00And so you can hear it.
10:02We had to make sure
10:03that you didn't see
10:03this part of the house
10:04because it would then
10:05clearly be in Niagara.
10:06And my favorite Niagara Falls story,
10:08I don't know if you did you know this,
10:09when Sam decided
10:10she wanted to see the falls
10:11like really up close.
10:12So she like went on a break,
10:13but she was like covered in blood
10:15and like totally forgot
10:16and like goes down.
10:17Did it wash off?
10:18No, but like all these tourists
10:20are there like trying
10:21to get their picture with Niagara.
10:22So she finally put a hoodie,
10:23you have to see this picture of her
10:24because she has this really funny picture
10:25where she has like her hood up,
10:27but you can still see
10:27there's like blood everywhere.
10:29Oh my God.
10:29Because I told her,
10:30because people didn't realize
10:31how close it was right there.
10:32And like I went on a break
10:33to get like my picture
10:34by the falls,
10:34but yeah.
10:35Oh, that's amazing.
10:35The cast in general,
10:37I think it's rare to find
10:38a group of people
10:39that just really enjoyed
10:41each other's company,
10:42I think in the way that
10:43we did and still continue to do.
10:45Totally.
10:45And just made it just
10:46a really special experience.
10:48Everybody hung out on set.
10:49Nobody left to go to their trailer
10:52or somewhere else.
10:53And that's a really good sign.
10:57Oh, this is Yellow Jackets.
11:00So this is in Vancouver,
11:01just outside of Vancouver.
11:02I can't remember what small town
11:04this was like Richmond or something.
11:05I play this character, Walter.
11:07And this sequence is
11:09in, we essentially interview
11:12someone posing as the FBI.
11:15And Cristina Ricci's character
11:17feeds me questions to ask him.
11:20Hit him.
11:21What?
11:22What?
11:23Hit him right now.
11:26Do you, you're okay, bro?
11:29Yeah.
11:30Really fun, hilarious sequence.
11:32Yeah.
11:33Just outside of Vancouver
11:34where we've all shot
11:35because everyone
11:36has definitely
11:37done their time in Vancouver.
11:39But it is such a beautiful place.
11:41British Columbia is so amazing.
11:42It's always lovely
11:43to head up there.
11:44I mean, it is so stunningly beautiful.
11:46You've got islands
11:47and sort of fjords
11:49and mountains
11:50and forests
11:51and bald eagles
11:53actually kind of everywhere.
11:55It's really, really beautiful.
11:57With really great food.
11:58I mean, it is known for its sushi
12:00for sure.
12:00There's a number of
12:01Michelin star restaurants there.
12:03One of my favorite places
12:04that I just went to
12:05and I hadn't been in a long time
12:06is Vija's,
12:07the Indian restaurant.
12:08Their Indian food is that.
12:09That place is so hard to get into.
12:10It is.
12:11That place that weight.
12:12So good.
12:12But it's worth it.
12:13Yeah.
12:14How do you think this game went?
12:15I think we did better
12:16than we thought.
12:17I think we crushed it.
12:18I think we did too.
12:19Yeah.
12:19That was really fun.
12:20Fun to revisit those places as well.
12:23And Pasadena for you.
12:25Pasadena twice.
12:26Who would have known Pasadena?
12:27Yeah, he's got,
12:28let's discuss this.
12:28He's like,
12:29this is New Zealand.
12:30This is when I was in England
12:32and Scotland.
12:32And I'm like,
12:33this is when I was in Torrance
12:34in Pasadena.
12:36Yeah, great for you.
12:37Oh my God, that's funny.
