00:00Hello, I'm Jeremy Vine and this is the show where two celebrity teams face a series of fiendishly difficult puzzles
00:06and I look on in awe or disappointment, depending on who's playing.
00:10Tonight it'll be awe, I'm sure. This is Celebrity Puzzling.
00:31Hello, welcome to Celebrity Puzzling. First, a thorny issue of our team captains. Let's meet them, shall we, in no
00:38particular order.
00:39A maths whiz who once ran a frozen pea factory in Suffolk, she's one of my five a day, is
00:45the cracky Carol Vorderman MBE.
00:49Facing off against her tonight is a woman who worked in a call centre whilst studying. Hold please for Sally
00:55Lindsay MBE.
00:58Who will be joining these two puzzling grandmasters tonight? Well, with Carol, it's a comedian who studied Russian at Oxford.
01:05And if that doesn't sound like the start of a spy novel, I don't know what does. It's Ivo Graham.
01:11And teaming up with Sally is a man sure to hit the high notes, everyone's favourite choir master, Gareth Malone.
01:19Welcome, everyone. Gareth, you're touring a lot. Yeah. You're live a lot. I'm live. I love it.
01:25But you love being live. I love it. I mean, I'm a, I'm a, I love attention.
01:31But I just love audiences. I love the interaction of it. And I've just spent years making television, which of
01:37course is great fun.
01:37Yeah.
01:38But there's something so special about being out and singing and playing instruments. I love being live.
01:42And is that, is that people come to see you or that you bring a choir with you or how
01:46does it work?
01:46The audience is the choir. So I have, you know, up to 2,000 people all singing along with lyrics
01:52on the, on the screen.
01:53I mean, yeah, it's fun. It's a sing-along of Gareth. I've been doing it the last five years now.
01:58How great. Ivo has an obsession with orange.
02:01Yes, I'm doing, um, I'm doing a show at the moment about all the best orange things in the world.
02:07Uh, and, um, some of my family think this is a fun idea and some of them are quite confused
02:11about where my life has gone.
02:13Are there any songs about orange?
02:15The show is called Orange Crush, which is a great song by R.E.M.
02:19Of course they have to say R.E.M.
02:20Uh, so that's, and then there's a band called Orange Juice.
02:23Orange Juice, yeah.
02:23Of course.
02:24We could, I mean, Gareth, realistically, if you were to combine, so one of you supported the other, you could
02:29do things like Hark the Orange Angels Sing.
02:32You'd get, you'd get the word orange in there.
02:34Oh, I, yeah, absolutely.
02:36We could, well, we write songs in my show, so we could write a whole song based on orange.
02:40That's it.
02:40We'll talk after.
02:41Thanks very much, Gareth.
02:42It's a verbal contract.
02:44Okay, time for tonight's terms and conditions.
02:46It's more interesting than it sounds.
02:48In every episode thus far, our teams have faced a random selection of puzzles.
02:52If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
02:53So we're just going to do it again.
02:55No two contests are ever the same, though.
02:57And we even try to mix up this bit of scripting, too, because we value our loyal viewers.
03:05Okay, your points total is important, because ideally you'd carry a lead into the final round, Answer Bank.
03:11Everything can change in the final.
03:13And if you end up as our celebrity guest who wins, I've got to show you something.
03:18On the screen you see the prize, the Celebrity Puzzling Cube.
03:24I've never seen Anthony more beautiful in my life.
03:26So that's for you if you win.
03:28Okay, that's that.
03:29There's nothing stopping us playing round one.
03:31Let's do it.
03:31Get in line, folks.
03:32This is form an orderly cue.
03:36Here, I'll show you how it works.
03:38A question will appear.
03:39Somehow our so-called supercomputer has reordered each word alphabetically rather than how they should be written.
03:45So here would be the question.
03:47Oh, yeah.
03:47And, ooh, there's obviously a song title.
03:50Guests, maybe have a go.
03:51Ah, is it, uh, who had a number one hit with Do You Think I'm Sexy?
03:56Can't remember.
03:57Rod Stewart.
03:57Rod Stewart.
03:57Okay, Rod Stewart is the answer we think.
04:00Yes.
04:00I'll show you the question on Scramble, which I'll always do, I promise.
04:04Number one hit single with Do You Think I'm Sexy?
04:07Okay.
04:07You must decipher the question to get the answer to back the points.
04:10So the question is, can you form an orderly cue?
04:12Time to find out.
04:13Fingers on buzzers, everyone.
04:14Here we go.
04:15There it is.
04:21Look for capital letters.
04:23That can help.
04:24Carol.
04:24Tennis.
04:26Is it tennis?
04:28Amazing.
04:29Very quick.
04:32Forderman.
04:33So we'll unscramble.
04:36I think we're going to see Roger Federer.
04:37I see how you did that, Carol.
04:39Yes.
04:39Roger Federer competed professionally in which sport?
04:42That was the question.
04:43Get ready on the buzzers.
04:44Here we go again.
04:51Form an orderly cue.
04:54Ivo.
04:55Michael J. Fox.
04:56Yeah.
04:57Is it Michael J. Fox?
04:59Oh, my gosh.
05:00Yes!
05:01We've got some players over this side.
05:03Let's see the question unscrambled.
05:06Who played Marty McFly in Back to the Future?
05:08And it helps to go in on the capital letters.
05:10It's my favorite movie.
05:11I've got a poster of it on my wall.
05:13I've got very lucky today.
05:14Okay.
05:15All right.
05:15Well, it is a great one.
05:16Here's the next one.
05:17Thanks, Jeremy.
05:18Oh, there's another capital letter there.
05:21Only six words.
05:24Gareth.
05:26Zucchini.
05:27Zucchini.
05:29He's right.
05:30And I don't know what he says.
05:32I don't know how you got that.
05:34Let's have a look.
05:35Let's have a look here.
05:36Yeah.
05:37What do Americans call a courgette?
05:39The questions might get a little more difficult as we go along.
05:42Fingers back on buzzers.
05:50I can see.
05:51Oh, Gareth.
05:53George.
05:54Yes.
05:55I need more.
05:56There's a lot of them.
05:57The fourth.
05:58George the fourth.
06:00No.
06:00Go on.
06:01You can steal.
06:02George the sixth.
06:03George the sixth.
06:05Oh.
06:06Oh.
06:09Let's have a look at the question.
06:10We can go through this a little bit.
06:12Who was Queen Elizabeth the second's father, our dear late queen?
06:16Yeah.
06:17And it was George six.
06:18Now, George six was the guy who did the king's speech.
06:20Wasn't it?
06:21The famous film.
06:21Yes.
06:22Played by Colin Firth.
06:23With the stammer.
06:24With the stammer, as you say.
06:26Yes.
06:26With the stutter.
06:26And which one had the marvellous medicine?
06:30Don't confuse us.
06:31Here's another question.
06:35Oh, dear.
06:39There's something with a capital P. Yes, Ali.
06:42Italy.
06:43Is it Italy?
06:44This is such a fast round.
06:46Italy.
06:47No.
06:48Carol Ivo.
06:50To steal a point.
06:51Spain.
06:52Spain.
06:53Sorry.
06:56Let's see the unscrambled question.
06:58Ah, the artist Picasso was born in which country?
07:03Final former orderly cue puzzle.
07:05This is a good round.
07:06It's such a good...
07:07Just a whole show.
07:07Get ready.
07:08The whole show could be this.
07:09Yeah.
07:10All right.
07:11There's an F in there.
07:19Carol.
07:21Port Stanley.
07:23Port Stanley.
07:25Yay!
07:27Stanley or Port Stanley.
07:28I couldn't accept either.
07:29Let's unscramble the question.
07:31What is the capital of the Falkland Irons?
07:33At the end of that round, Sally and Gareth have got two.
07:37Carol and Ivo have got ace.
07:41They were banging the buzzer like crazy.
07:44Hopefully you managed to reorder those questions at home.
07:46Well done if you had any success there.
07:48It's almost time for our teams to try to win some more points over at the letterbox.
07:52This one does need a bit of focus.
07:54It's called Pathwords.
07:57So I'll show you this.
07:59As an example, you see three words of five jumbled letters, which must be rearranged to complete three words.
08:04Letters highlighted are locked in place.
08:06Letters on physical tiles are those to be rearranged.
08:08In this case, the dark ones.
08:09So give us an idea.
08:12You can only move tiles vertically within their column.
08:15I think maybe the first one is slate.
08:17Slate.
08:18Slate.
08:18OK.
08:19Looks good.
08:21And then that's...
08:25Orbit and widen would be the three.
08:27And it's all gone green.
08:28So you are against the clock.
08:29Just to remind you, when you've done it, buzz.
08:31So Carol and Ivo, head over to the letterbox, won't you, to play Pathwords.
09:02Thank you very much.
09:05That would that be then.
09:07That would be the end.
09:07Unite at the bottom.
09:09Fence.
09:10And then fence at the top.
09:11Unity.
09:12Unity and fence.
09:13OK.
09:13Let's see if it goes green when you press the buzzer.
09:16Yes.
09:16Well done, you.
09:18Fence is the first.
09:19Come on.
09:20And then it's drawn.
09:21Fence drawn.
09:22Unity is correct.
09:23It's going to get harder as we lock one letter fewer.
09:25For your trouble, this one is worth four points.
09:28Here it is.
09:28Your time starts now.
09:30Heck.
09:32So, what would that be?
09:34Could the bottom one be vicar?
09:37Vicar, right.
09:38V is a good word.
09:39Yeah, and vicar.
09:40Yeah.
09:42Vicar.
09:43And now.
09:44Could it be...
09:47Noive.
09:48No.
09:49Forum.
09:51And naive.
09:52That looks good, doesn't it?
09:54Yes.
09:54Naive's a funny word.
09:55But is it right?
09:56Naive.
09:56Yes, I'm very happy.
09:57You've passed your right.
09:59Well done.
10:00Forum naive vicar.
10:02It might get harder.
10:03We're cranking up the difficulty in the third puzzle.
10:05We're only going to lock the first letter per word.
10:07The correct answer will be worth a whopping five points.
10:10Wow.
10:10Here it is.
10:10Your time starts now.
10:12Oh, just the possibility.
10:14Right, I'd go with the J.
10:15Let's go with the J.
10:16Oh, okay.
10:16Latex.
10:17Wow.
10:18God, she's latex everywhere.
10:21Okay, what about this J, then?
10:23Shit.
10:24Joins.
10:26Joins?
10:27The joins in your latex.
10:28And that leaves us with a lovely shawl.
10:30Happy.
10:30Oh, I say.
10:31Boom.
10:32Very good.
10:34Shawl joins latex.
10:36How did you get on at home?
10:38Did you get latex like Carol did?
10:40Well done, you two.
10:42Your trip to the letterbox has gone well.
10:45You scored the maximum.
10:46Yay!
10:4612 points.
10:47I have a goal.
10:48So, look at this.
10:49It's not going to be as easy as you might have thought or hoped.
10:53I'm very relaxed about it, Jeremy.
10:55It's fine.
10:55Okay, Sally and Gareth relaxed until they get to Pathwords.
11:00They'll have to hold fire for a moment.
11:01It's just time for a little commercial break.
11:03Give your brains a rest.
11:05Rejoin us in a few minutes.
11:09Have a go at this Pathwords puzzle.
11:11Swap the letters in just one column to reveal the answers.
11:16Choose wisely.
11:28Did you manage to solve this Pathwords puzzle?
11:31If you got these answers, well done.
11:37Welcome back to Celebrity Puzzling.
11:39I am Jeremy Vine and nobody can prove otherwise.
11:41Our captains Carol Vauderman and Sally Lindsay have been buddying up to their teammates, Ivo Graham and Gareth Malone here.
11:47There is a spring in their step.
11:49It's lovely to see.
11:50Time now for Sally and Gareth to try to bank some points with their turn here at the letterbox.
11:55You're going to see three rows of letters which must be rearranged to complete three new words.
12:00You can only move tiles vertically within their column.
12:02Once you're happy with your words, hit the button in your first puzzle, the first letter per word, plus two
12:08extra letters will be locked.
12:09For three points, here's your first Pathword.
12:12Your time starts now.
12:14Okay, is it move?
12:16Wow, so fast.
12:18Okay.
12:18Move.
12:19No, movie.
12:21Movie.
12:21Okay.
12:22Very great, well done.
12:23Movie is a word.
12:23He's going to get involved at some point.
12:25Fro...
12:26Fro...
12:27Froze...
12:27Fro...
12:31I am...
12:32Irony?
12:33Irony.
12:33Irony.
12:35Flush.
12:36I'll get my coat.
12:37Look at that.
12:38Well, they've been practising.
12:40So, movie, irony, flush.
12:43As we saw earlier, the difficulty increases as we lock the first letters and only one extra letter.
12:48For four points this time, here it is.
12:50Your time.
12:50Start now.
12:53Okay, okay, so let's go the H cut that back to go there and then
13:03No, no, and so that's got to be that as new boys boys
13:10Wisp, wisp, wisp, okay
13:16Praise and joke jolt. No, that's not jolt. No, it's not and it's okay. So it's got to be a
13:23house
13:25No, that's right
13:28Mmm, Joey's oh Joey's running out of time. I'm worried about wisp
13:36That's not a word
13:38What? So wisp is wisp. I think you missed joist. I think you needed a joist in there to support
13:46you
13:47I think you might be right
13:48Go and put joist in for me
13:50And then whelp. Can you have whelp, Sally? W-H-E-L-P
13:56Praise. That's it and then yeah, praise as in he prays for an exciting final
14:03That wasn't a very good performance at all, Sally
14:06No, well look it gets harder again. This time wait, you're gonna you're gonna be fine guys
14:11You're gonna be fine this time. I only lock the first letter those three of each work solving the puzzle
14:16is gonna be worth five
14:17If you're ready your time starts now, okay?
14:21Okay
14:23What have you got?
14:24That's not cozy, is it? No, okay. So we've got that said he's got
14:28So what is it? Cowd
14:31Cowd?
14:32No, like that
14:34Dazed, gazed, kazed, jazed
14:36Right, okay
14:37Jaw
14:39Jawes, no
14:40Okay, er, okay
14:44Gosh, I'm funny, that's hard
14:46Er
14:47Er
14:49Jaz
14:50Jaz
14:51Jaz
14:53Jaz
14:53Jazzy
14:53No, it's two zeds
14:55Jazes, no
14:56Gazes, gazes
14:57Oh, yeah, okay
14:58Gazes
14:58Do that
15:00Gazes
15:01Yes, that's a word
15:03Okay, that's a word
15:04Time is coming down
15:05So
15:06Oh
15:08What?
15:09Let's think about this, so just so I think chaos is what we wanted at the top
15:15And then we have gazed there, don't we?
15:18Gazed
15:19Gazed
15:20Oh, chaos, jowly, gazed
15:23So, head back to your seats, we'll check out the scores
15:30How many puzzles did you solve at home? Sally and Gareth, your visit to the letterboxes scored you three
15:35Oh, dismal
15:37Let's see what that's done to the scores, Sally and Gareth on five
15:40Oh, no
15:41Carol and I go on 20
15:45Oh, no
15:46Our next puzzling round is all about making some serious shapes because it is shapeshifters
15:52This is a fun round
15:54Let's see an example
15:55So I'll show you a grid of answers, a question and a corresponding shape
15:58You've got to give me the correct answers that fit the shape and as we know you can't
16:03Rotate the shape
16:05Very good
16:05That's not our catchphrase because it is not working really
16:08But you can't, you can't rotate the shape
16:10So you've got to get one over the other
16:12Flightless birds
16:14I'm saying emu penguin
16:16Okay, straight there, let's see if that's right
16:18Yeah
16:19That's how you do it
16:20And then I can also say, oh, were there any others in the grid to confuse us? Kiwi, but didn't
16:27fit the shape
16:28Okay, Sally and Gareth, you're up first, here's your puzzle for two points
17:01People who have played the devil on screen
17:02A renowned actor may well know this
17:04Al Pacino, Elizabeth Hurley, is it right?
17:08Yes
17:08Yes
17:09Well done
17:10Were there any other ones that would have been right as well?
17:13Jack Nicholson
17:14Jack Nicholson, Robert De Niro
17:16So Al Pacino is in The Devil's Advocate
17:18Bang on Sally with your reasoning
17:20Elizabeth Hurley in Bedazzled
17:22Bedazzled
17:23Yeah
17:23Nicholson in The Witches of Eastwick
17:25Yeah
17:26And Robert De Niro in
17:27Angel Heart
17:28Yes
17:29Very good
17:30Well done
17:31Carol and Ivo, here's your shapeshifters puzzle
17:34Here we go
17:34To keep the lead
17:35Former Olympic events
17:37The key word being former
17:38So it no longer is
17:40I would guess tug of war, but I'm guessing
17:43Look at the shape, one beside the other
17:45Yeah
17:46The former thing has made me very stressed, Jeremy
17:49I don't think I would say for certain that any of these were
17:52You know what I mean?
17:54Yeah
17:54I think tug of war is former
17:56I can't think that darts was, what do you think?
18:01Okay, so darts never
18:03No
18:04What should we go with?
18:06I'm fancying tug of war and tandem cycling
18:09And I, where Vorderman goes I follow
18:12Do you?
18:13Yes
18:14Is that tandem wise?
18:15Yes, tandem wise and tug of war wise
18:18Okay
18:18Let's lock those in please, Jeremy
18:19That's what we're going for
18:20Alright, tug of war and tandem cycling, is that right?
18:24Yes
18:24Yes
18:24Very good
18:25Exactly
18:26Let's see the others that might have counted
18:29Oh
18:29Standing triple jump and cannon shooting
18:32Cannon shooting?
18:33That was a demonstration sport in 1900
18:35Oh wow
18:36Wow
18:36Standing triple jump, imagine that
18:38It's bad enough doing it from a run
18:40Yeah
18:40That'd do your back in, wouldn't it?
18:42It will
18:42And everything else
18:431900 and 1904
18:45Tug of war, absolutely, but they stopped that in 1920
18:48They should bring that back
18:49I think
18:50Tandem cycling from 1908 until 1972
18:53Sally and Gareth, here's your second puzzle
18:56The shape increases here
18:57Have a look at it
18:58So you've got three on a kind of corner there
19:01One up, one down, one across
19:03UK stamp sets for three points
19:06Wow
19:08I know, I think I know this
19:10Do you?
19:10I'm going to do a guess
19:11It's a very educated guess
19:13Does it involve Peppa Pig?
19:15It does, it does
19:16The reason is I've got every year
19:19I get my Christmas card from Sue Holderness
19:21Who played Marlene in Only Fools and Horses
19:23Okay
19:24And she puts her stamp on it
19:26I love that
19:27And Blackadder is in shock
19:28And Blackadder must be
19:29So I'm thinking just of that
19:31Just for that
19:31It's Only Fools and Horses, Peppa Pig
19:34I like that
19:34And Blackadder
19:36Blackadder, Peppa Pig and Only Fools and Horses
19:38Is It Right
19:40Yes
19:40Very well done
19:42So the others
19:43Let's have a look
19:44X-Men and ACDC
19:46Oh
19:46And I bought the ACDC ones
19:48I thought that was wonderful
19:49And the Stones
19:49Been on them and McCartney
19:51They're quite sort of freewheeling with these picture stamps
19:54You'll be on them one day
19:55I look forward to that
19:56We'll be on it next, puzzling
19:57Yeah
19:57Puzzling, can you imagine that
19:59Great puzzlers
19:59And they just only issue three steps
20:01Once you've got your catchphrase
20:03Then it'll be time
20:04I know
20:05Carole and Ivo for three points
20:07Maybe that's it
20:10Films that are over three hours long
20:11Oh, goodness me
20:13Look at the shape here
20:14One, then one on a diagonal
20:16Yeah
20:16And then you go down on a diagonal
20:18Okay
20:19Well, this is of no help because of the shape
20:22But Gone With The Wind was definitely over three hours long
20:26That's it
20:26It doesn't fit the shape in any way
20:28Um
20:29I don't think Wicked was, do you?
20:31No, I don't think so
20:32I think Goodfellas was
20:33I do too
20:35I don't think Titanic was actually
20:37Titanic's long but I don't think it's that long
20:39So Goodfellas could be the one in the shape
20:42And maybe, I mean, the Godfather I think could be
20:45I don't think Casablanca is
20:46So what about some like hot?
20:50I don't know anything about
20:52Do need an answer
20:54What are we gonna go with Ivo?
20:56Could we go with quite a rogue?
20:59Go on
21:00Godfather, Goodfellas and Wicked
21:01Go on then
21:02I, I, it's crazy
21:04I don't, Wicked's for kids
21:05I don't think it'd be three hours plus
21:06But let's go with it
21:07Let's go with it
21:08Alright, Godfather, Wicked, Goodfellas is your answer
21:12Is it right?
21:14No, it's not
21:16No, sorry
21:16Chance to steal for Gareth and Sally
21:18That'll be really quick
21:19Okay, I'm
21:20One point if you do
21:21I think it's the Green Mile Schindler's List Titanic
21:23Because I don't think Bad Boys 2 is over three hours
21:26And that's the only other option
21:27Certainly not Aliens and some like it hot
21:29Alright, Green Mile Schindler's List Titanic
21:31Is that right?
21:33No!
21:33You've stolen the points
21:35Well done
21:36And let's see the other ones
21:38I'm back everyone
21:39Which others work?
21:40Only Gone with the Wind
21:42Isn't that amazing?
21:43So that's the longest one on the board
21:45Gone with the Wind 341
21:46Schindler's List 315
21:47Green Mile 309
21:49Titanic 314
21:50All the others under three hours long
21:52Sally and Gareth, here's your final one
21:54We're loving this round
21:55Slightly larger grid though for you
21:57Bit trickier maybe
21:58Countries with a Mediterranean coastline
22:00Oh, okay
22:01And look at the shape of the three
22:02One up, one down, one diagonal
22:04I'm saying
22:05I feel pretty confident
22:07Go on
22:09Turkey, definitely
22:11Egypt, of course
22:14Morocco
22:15Fits the bill
22:16I don't think Albania, Portugal
22:18Because Albania, no
22:20Well Cyprus
22:21Tunisia, Jordan, Jordan, no
22:23Cyprus definitely does
22:24But it's not
22:25Portugal and Albania
22:26Jordan, no
22:27Albania is
22:28Bulgaria is up
22:30So that's like Black Sea, isn't it?
22:32Well, Portugal doesn't does it
22:33So it's
22:35I'm going to leave this to you, my darling
22:36Alright, what could we go for?
22:39Turkey, Egypt, Morocco
22:41Turkey, Egypt, Morocco
22:42Is it right?
22:45Yes
22:45Yay!
22:46Nice to go
22:46Just look at the other ones that would have counted
22:49Had they been in the right position
22:50Because I think you're
22:51A couple of things
22:52Albania would have
22:53Oh, would it?
22:54Yeah
22:54Malta, Tunisia
22:55Italy, Monaco, Cyprus
22:57So quite a few ones to throw you off there
22:59But you got the answer right
23:01Carol and Ivo for three points
23:03Your last one
23:04I need this one
23:06TV shows first shown in the 1960s
23:09Okay, so that would mean
23:12And look at the shape
23:13One on a diagonal
23:14One on a diagonal
23:15Got it
23:16Coronation Street
23:18Absolutely, 100%
23:19Love Island
23:21Not
23:22Well, if you think Coronation Street is definite
23:24Could we have
23:25Yes, because I'm only
23:26I'm two weeks younger than Coronation Street
23:28I was born in 1960
23:30Absolutely
23:31Fantastic
23:32So that is one
23:33Maybe in that case
23:35University Challenge and Match of the Day
23:37I'm going with that
23:39And I may be wrong
23:41So, or it could be
23:44Op Nox, as they call it in the business
23:47Songs of Praise and Doctor Who
23:49It's one of
23:50Oh, that's a nice little treble as well
23:53Well, I think we've got two lovely options
23:56But I think your instinct was for Coronation Street
23:59Let's go with that
24:00Let's throw in Match of the Day University Challenge
24:02Yeah, Univert with Bamba
24:03Alright, with Bamba Gascoigne
24:06University Challenge
24:07Coronation Street
24:08Match of the Day
24:09Is it right?
24:11Yeah!
24:13Let's see the ones that would have counted
24:16Had they been in the right position
24:18Yes
24:18So
24:20Yeah
24:20Doctor Who and Songs of Praise were both 63
24:24Opportunity Knocks with Huey Green
24:25It's your vote that counts
24:26Yeah, in the 50s
24:27In the 50s, 56
24:28You're right about that
24:30How did you get on at home?
24:31Are you giving our celebrities a run for their money?
24:33At the end of that round
24:34We have Sally and Gareth on 14
24:37So you're picking up pace here
24:38Yeah
24:39Carol and I vote ahead
24:40But not vanquishing them at this stage
24:4225
24:45Now we take a quick break
24:47Much more puzzling is on the way
24:49So please don't stray
24:49We'll see you in a few minutes
24:54Why don't you have a go at home?
24:56Find the starting point to solve the clue
24:58And complete this around the block puzzle
25:01Get puzzling
25:13Have you solved this around the block brain teaser?
25:17If you did, great job
25:22Welcome back to Celebrity Puzzling
25:24Me casa es su casa
25:26Make yourselves at home
25:28As ever, Carol and Sally are here
25:30This time they've been joined by some famous faces
25:31Who have agreed to grasp the puzzling nettle
25:34Namely, Ivo, Graham and Gareth Malone
25:37Gareth, we remember you on Celebrity Bake Off
25:39When you recreated an incident from school
25:42Yes, yes
25:43A naked version of myself
25:45Made entirely out of pink meringue
25:49And what were you doing?
25:50Anatomically correct in every detail
25:52Muscular
25:52You were falling into something?
25:54Yeah, I fell into this school pond
25:56And the worst part is I got out
25:58Banged my head
25:59And then a teacher took me to have a shower
26:01Sent me in to go and get a shower
26:03And a girl ran in
26:05And looked at me naked and went
26:06Oh no!
26:09Really quite traumatic
26:10That would stay with you
26:10It has stayed with me
26:12Yeah
26:12So you recreated it using yourself
26:14You were pink meringue
26:15And you fell into
26:16Yeah, so I created the
26:18I brought the two moments together
26:20In a glorious moment
26:21Lovely
26:22But Paul Hollywood liked it
26:23Because I used different types of meringue
26:25Oh
26:26This is probably beyond the scope of this show
26:28But there are different types of meringue
26:30Well it might come up later
26:31So we better not talk about it
26:32We do have a round
26:34Different types of meringue
26:35Absolutely
26:37Absolutely
26:38Absolutely
26:38Smash it
26:39Yeah
26:40It's time to put Ivo and Gareth to the ultimate puzzling test now
26:43Because it is time for our celebrity guest head to head
26:46This is called join the dots
26:50So yes Ivo looks worried but also strangely braced I think
26:54This is the bigger show where Carol and Sally can kick back, relax and crucially not whisper
26:59Oh
27:00The guests take the strain
27:01Ivo and Gareth, an example for you
27:03On the screen you're shown a puzzle here
27:06Yeah
27:06Consisting of a category and a series of dots
27:09Category kids TV
27:11So yeah
27:12You'll see
27:12And if we were doing this for real
27:14You would buzz when you knew it
27:16It's obviously the something
27:18Anyone?
27:20Oh
27:21You have buzzed
27:22The magic
27:23Oh no
27:24Now I can't do it
27:24The magic fulfillment
27:26Yeah
27:27Go on Ivo
27:28The magic roundabout
27:30It is
27:31Yes
27:31The first player to buzz in and give the correct answer will score two points
27:34If a player buzzes incorrectly with their answer
27:36We freeze it and the other player can steal
27:39So here we go
27:40Be quick
27:41Be right
27:42The first one is coming now
27:43On the buzzers
27:45Artist
27:52Gareth
27:53Damien Hirst
27:54Wow
27:54Is it Damien Hirst?
27:56You've gone in fast and you're right Gareth, well done
28:00Next one please, next slide please
28:02Food
28:05Two words
28:06The lines are appearing
28:10Ivo
28:10Cornish pasty
28:12Yes
28:12Cornish pasty
28:13Are you serious?
28:16Yes
28:17Yay
28:18The gauntlet is well and truly thrown down
28:21Two very fast answers
28:23Let's have our third
28:25Join the dots
28:26Mammal
28:29Looks like two words
28:31Second quite long
28:34The lines form
28:35Gareth
28:36Is it giant alligator?
28:38Giant
28:38Alligator
28:40It freezes
28:41It goes to Ivo
28:42Giant anteater
28:44Giant anteater
28:46Yes
28:47A point on the steal
28:49Could be crucial with the scores where they are
28:51Action stations
28:53Time for another
28:54Guests only
28:55Festival
28:56Lines appear
28:59Ivo
29:02Glastonbury
29:03Glastonbury
29:05Gareth
29:06To steal
29:07To steal
29:07To steal
29:08Second letters
29:09A
29:11We need an answer or it will buzz you out
29:13I'm just going to say latitude
29:14Latitude
29:16I can see two K's there, am I mad?
29:18Hanukkah
29:19Let's have a look at this
29:21Hanukkah
29:21Oh
29:22It's that kind of festival
29:24It's that kind of festival
29:24You were doing what I was doing
29:25Music festivals
29:26Glastonbury
29:27Woodstock
29:28Latitude
29:28So it was Hanukkah
29:30Okay, final one
29:31Guests only please
29:33Transport
29:34Here come the lines
29:44Ivo
29:45Penny Farthing
29:46Penny Farthing
29:48Penny Farthing
29:48Why could I not see that when I own one?
29:50Penny Farthing
29:52Oh
29:54Now I feel I've lost the game
29:56Do you own a Penny Farthing?
29:57Yes I do
29:58It's got a 56 inch wheel
29:59Wow
30:01Ivo scored five
30:03Gareth scored two
30:04How tasty is this now?
30:06Let's look at the totals
30:08Sally and Gareth have 16
30:10But Carol and Ivo are on 30
30:13There's a gap
30:15There is a gap there
30:16Yeah, it's not an emergency yet
30:19No it is not
30:19It's the moment where you smell smoke
30:23You might sort of
30:24You don't see the fire yet
30:25Right
30:26If you played at home
30:27Did you join the dots before?
30:28Our celebrities did
30:29A very fast play from Ivo in particular
30:31Okay, our next puzzle
30:32Is about spotting the right letters
30:34And making them count
30:35Its hidden answer
30:38This is how it works
30:39In this game
30:40The answer will be there
30:40Right in front of you
30:41Although sadly
30:42It's a little bit jumbled up
30:43You'll see a puzzle word
30:44On the left
30:45A clue on the right
30:46So here, just an example
30:48The clue word is bear
30:49Can you see a bear inside manscaped?
30:53Yes
30:53Go on
30:54Panda
30:55Panda
30:56Yes
30:58Panda
30:59Would have been the right answer
31:00Sally and Gareth
31:01You're playing as a team
31:02Your first one
31:03Centre spreads
31:04TV soap
31:06Oh, it's
31:09It's EastEnders, isn't it?
31:11Oh
31:11Is it EastEnders?
31:14I'm glad you got that right
31:15That's right up your street
31:16One day we're going to hit you
31:17With Madame Blanc, aren't we?
31:19Yeah
31:19No, because I get it wrong
31:20It'll be so funny
31:21I get everything wrong
31:22On Manchester
31:22On acting
31:24It's in the nature
31:25Gareth will get stuff wrong
31:27On choirs
31:27Ivo on comedy
31:29Carol on light aircraft
31:30That's why
31:32Carol and Ivo
31:33It's your turn
31:33And here we go
31:34No, but
31:35Pollinating shape
31:38Oh, so, so
31:39I was looking for
31:40Polygon
31:40The letters are inside
31:44The word pollinating
31:45What have we got?
31:46Is triangle there?
31:48No
31:49Hexagon
31:50Octagon
31:53Pentagon
31:53Is that there?
31:56I've only got one
31:57Oh, we've got two ends
31:59Haven't we?
31:59Pentagon
32:00Going with that?
32:01I think we absolutely should
32:03But I can take no credit for it
32:05Yeah
32:05Pentagon, please
32:07Pentagon
32:08Yeah, it's very important in America
32:11Yeah
32:12And that's, is that five sizes?
32:14Yes
32:15Yes, well done
32:16And of course the huge building
32:17Just outside Washington
32:18Yes, indeed
32:19The Pentagon
32:20Get ready, Sally Gareth
32:22Here's your next one
32:23Okay
32:24Cliché country
32:25Find me a country inside cliché
32:28Okay
32:28Okay
32:29Okay, erm
32:32Err
32:33E
32:35Err
32:36Harder than it looks
32:38Yes, okay
32:39Err
32:39L
32:41Iceland
32:41Can't be Iceland
32:42Because, erm
32:43Come on, tell me
32:45Chilli
32:46Chilli
32:47Well done
32:48Is it chilly?
32:50It is indeed chilly
32:51It is indeed chilly
32:53Very hard
32:53Very good puzzling
32:54Carol and Ivo
32:55Your next
32:57Man like body joints
32:58The clue is body joints
33:01What do you think?
33:03The joint
33:03I think it's the ankle
33:05We'll start at the toes
33:07Okay
33:07Well then I think we'll get that quick quickly
33:09Yes, go on
33:10Err
33:10Ankle please, Jeremy
33:11Ankle
33:14Is right
33:16Okay, Sally Gareth
33:17Your final one
33:18We'll crack it on here
33:19This is it
33:20Traumatising social media
33:22Err
33:23Just about tells the story
33:24It does
33:24It's not Facebook
33:26Erm
33:28Instagram
33:28It's not WhatsApp
33:29It's Instagram
33:30It has to be Instagram
33:31Isn't it?
33:31Yeah
33:32Instagram
33:32Yeah, Instagram
33:34Process of elimination
33:35Process of elimination
33:36Says Gareth
33:37Let's see
33:38Yes, it's right
33:39Well done
33:40Final here and answer
33:41To pass all this time
33:42For Carol and Ivo
33:44Ostracised philosopher
33:46Oh
33:46Wow
33:48Erm
33:50So we need a philosopher
33:51Inside ostracised
33:55Tricky
33:56Iris
33:56Iris
33:57No
33:58It's not Iris
33:58Can you name that?
34:01Oh yes
34:02The other one
34:03Erm
34:04May I?
34:05Yes
34:05May I have the honour?
34:07Socrates
34:08Oh
34:08I see
34:09Okay, is it Socrates?
34:12So you're in the old
34:13The old buffers
34:14The old buffers
34:15Yeah
34:16Aristotle, Socrates
34:17At the end of that round
34:18Sally and Gareth have got 22
34:20They're not catching up yet
34:22But they could still
34:22Carol and Ivo
34:2436
34:26Very good
34:27Very good
34:28Very good play by you two
34:29Yeah
34:29Did you solve any of them at home?
34:31Well done
34:32Not easy at all
34:33Time for our penultimate round
34:34This one takes place at the exclusive postcode containing our letterbox
34:38The fastest team to solve their puzzle this time will receive two bonus points which could be crucial come the
34:43end of the show
34:44So it's all to play for in letterbox lander
34:48Let us see how this works you will see three key words appear on the screen
34:52In between a series of spaces you've got to find the words that go in this case after course and
34:57before station
34:58You've got the available letters at the top
35:01Station master
35:02Station master master mind
35:04I like that
35:06Again if you look at the top you see the letters that are there
35:08Oh work at the top
35:09Course word
35:10Is it?
35:10Course work
35:11Course work workstation
35:13You like it
35:14Now look at the letters that remain
35:15Mind
35:16Mind
35:18Something ing
35:20Blowing
35:21Mind
35:22Yeah
35:23So course work workstation
