00:02We had a leucistic waterbuck born at the safari park three weeks ago.
00:07We've had over 20,000 mammals born here at the park,
00:10and we've never had a leucistic animal born before.
00:19Leukism is a condition characterized by reduced pigmentation
00:23as opposed to albinism, which is characterized by no pigmentation.
00:33Luke is absolutely amazing.
00:36He's one of the most beautiful animals I've ever seen.
00:38He's a white ellipsin waterbuck.
00:40So where he's supposed to be brown, he's white,
00:42and where he's supposed to be white, he's brown.
00:50The morning he was born was amazing.
00:52We pulled in to count the waterbuck,
00:54and there are always 12 waterbuck, but we were missing one.
00:57We came around the corner of the pond, and there he was,
01:00this little white waterbuck laying next to this beautiful brown mother.
01:04As she saw us approaching, she got him up and took him over to the herd.
01:08And unfortunately, the first day, everybody in the exhibit here was afraid of him.
01:12They all came over and they stared at him,
01:14and they knew there was something different about him.
01:17And some of the animals actually harassed him a little bit.
01:19But his mom protected him, and as you can see, he's doing just fine now.
01:26The best way for guests to see Luke is for them to take one of our photo caravan safaris,
01:31our tram safari or possibly a cart safari.
