00:31so much of the work is done on Assassin's Creed

00:39but what we did know or we do know
00:41is that he arrived in Japan
00:43in 1579 right when
00:45our game starts and
00:47that he had relationships
00:49with some of the most interesting
00:51people in our setting like Oda Nobunaga,
00:54the Portuguese and
00:55Jesuits which made it
00:57very sort of tantalizing
00:59and enticing from a narrative perspective
01:01to come in and start weaving these
01:03facts with story in between.
01:06The more we read about the character
01:09the more he was inspiring
01:11for us. He's a foreigner
01:13discovering Japan and we
01:15thought it's the perfect fit because
01:17he's discovering Japan and
01:19you are discovering Japan also.
01:21And on the flip side
01:23we have Naue who comes
01:25from the province of Iga
01:26which is a remote mountainous area
01:29fiercely independent
01:30known as the birthplace of Shinobi.
01:33So they're very contrasting
01:34perspectives that really expose
01:36a lot of different sides
01:38and facets of the era.
01:40When Oda came
01:41he completely destroyed Iga.
01:43We have Yasuke
01:44and Oda
01:45that coming to destroy
01:47the Shinobi
01:48so it can kind of create
01:49this interesting tension
01:51between two characters.
01:53We were able to connect her
01:55to the province of Iga
01:57and the legendary Igan Shinobi
01:59historical figure
02:00Fujibayashi Nagato
02:02who's her father in the game.
02:04So we understand
02:05why she has the skills
02:07that she has
02:08and the values that she learns
02:09from her father
02:10in the people of Iga
02:12which are valor, benevolence
02:14and wisdom.
02:16And as a young person
02:17still at the start of the game
02:18we get to see now
02:19we acquire even more
02:20of that wisdom
02:20as the story unfolds.
02:22And if you ask anybody
02:23it's super clear
02:24that samurai will be
02:26combat heavy
02:27and a Shinobi
02:28will be stealth heavy.
02:29It creates this distinction
02:31right away.
02:33Yasuke can fight
02:35with all his advantage
02:36his stature
02:37like he's a big guy
02:39he can break door
02:40he can fight multiple enemies
02:42he can break armor
02:43compared to Naoui
02:45like her character
02:46and their outfit
02:47it's really about
02:48being stealth
02:49being unseen
02:50she's the only one
02:51with the hidden blade
02:52so they have clear advantage
02:53that put them
02:54into the stealth
02:55and the combat
02:56even if they can do
02:58a bit of both.
02:59They're a really great
03:01pair together
03:02because on one side
03:03we have Naoui
03:06who's very intense
03:07and passionate
03:08and determined
03:10woman
03:10who is very set
03:13on her goals
03:13she's kind of got her heart
03:14on her sleeve
03:15and she'll say
03:16what she feels
03:17in the heat of the moment
03:18and this intensity
03:19that she brings
03:20as a Shinobi
03:21but that she also brings
03:22to her relationship
03:23and this balances
03:24very well with Yasuke
03:25who is sort of
03:26a thoughtful
03:27level head
03:28to Naoui's
03:30fiery passion
03:30and we really thought
03:32about somebody like Yasuke
03:34historically
03:34who was able to come
03:35to Japan
03:36and have the life
03:37that he did there
03:38to enter service
03:40for Oda Nobunaga
03:41and achieve all
03:42of the things
03:42that he did
03:43like what kind of person
03:44would go through
03:45all of this
03:46so our Yasuke
03:47is very intelligent
03:48thoughtful
03:49and respectful
03:51of this culture
03:52that he encounters
03:54and that makes him
03:55a very nice
03:55sort of counterpart
03:56to Naoui
03:57he's a bit mysterious
03:59as well
03:59and that's something
04:00we get to see unfold
04:01as the game progresses
