00:00We are cleared into the area, verifying cameras are on.
00:03Alright, here we go.
00:053, 2, 1.
00:07Here comes some G's.
00:10There's 5 G's.
00:126 G's.
00:147 G's.
00:21Alright, that was awesome.
00:26I wasn't ready to make a sequel until we had a special story worthy of a sequel.
00:32And until technology evolved so we could delve deeper into the experience of a fighter pilot.
00:38The first movie became something that changed a generation.
00:41So this is exciting to come back and get in those jets again.
00:46We worked with the Navy and the Top Gun school to formulate how to shoot it practically.
00:51Because if we're going to do it, we're going to fly in the F-18s.
00:55The aviation sequences had to be real.
00:58So our actors went through 3 months of grueling training.
01:02The Navy says if you eject, you have to be able to survive in the water.
01:07So we have to go through a challenging underwater program.
01:10It's intense.
01:11You're flipped, inverted.
01:12And you're having to try and get out.
01:15From there, Tom designed this all-encompassing aviation training for all the actors.
01:22I started them out in a single-engine airplane to build up their spatial awareness inside the aircraft.
01:27Oh, wow.
01:29That's amazing.
01:30Oh, my God.
01:32Next, we took them to the L-39.
01:34And they went and flew aerobatics to feel what it's like in a jet.
01:38It's the speed.
01:39Wow.
01:40From there, they'd graduate to the F-18 Super Hornet and actually launching off an aircraft carrier.
01:46That's what I'm talking about.
01:48Woo!
01:52The actors also had to learn how to run the cameras.
01:56Because when they're up in the jet, they have to direct themselves, essentially.
02:00Okay, I'm rolling.
02:01I had to really teach them cinematography and the lighting so that they understood what's going to look good on
02:05camera.
02:06Done angle's great.
02:07Everybody thought it would be impossible for actors to really be in the jets.
02:11But that's the gift that Tom gave us, that by the time we got up there, we could handle it.
02:19Definitely the most amazing thing I've ever done.
02:21All the training, 100% prepared us.
02:24I'm very proud of what we all accomplished.
02:27Each one of them are extraordinary.
02:31It still blows my mind that we've done this.
02:34There's nothing like it.
02:46There's nothing like it.
02:48There's nothing like it.
02:48There's nothing like it.
02:49There's nothing like it.
02:49There's nothing like it.
