00:30So, my first impression of the song, well, I obviously found it really dark and a bit creepy, but it
00:39was also really beautiful.
00:48My name is Aga Uima. I am a singer-songwriter and I co-written the song for Village with Briante
00:57Oliveira.
00:58And today we are recording it here in London in Metropolis Studios.
01:05So I came by Aga's profile by chance. I was actually researching obscure Indonesian music, geeking out about this one
01:13really interesting kind of harp-like Indonesian instrument.
01:17And she happens to play this instrument and I found her and heard her singing and it was just right
01:25away, it captured me.
01:27And when I started thinking about this song, right away, it was her voice that came to mind.
01:40So from my performance of this song, I think the crucial thing that was a guide for the whole thing
01:52was the animation.
01:54So at the beginning, you know, the animation starts when the girl gets lost in the forest.
02:01And so I wanted to make it sound a bit more mysterious and creepy and you don't know what is
02:08really going on around.
02:11So that's why the vocal lines are quite low as from my register and I sing in a bit more
02:20whispering voice.
02:22This song is definitely unique sounding because it was not made in a conventional form.
02:29It's not like we sat down and decided to just write a song that has a normal verse and chorus
02:34section.
02:35We actually drew the inspiration from the imagery and the story that was being told.
02:41And then from there we adjusted and kind of painted the picture in terms of sound to fit everything seamlessly.
02:50And from there, the inspiration even for the lyrics came as we were seeing these images.
02:55So it's very fluid. It doesn't really repeat itself. It's always ever changing.
03:01It's almost like water. And it's almost like, to me, it's very much the parallel to what we see in
03:09the imagery,
03:10how everything's changing, evolving, and the story itself is interweaving with the character's actions as well.
03:19And that's what we wanted to portray also with the song.
03:23So I think, you know, I could really find myself in this song.
03:28Like I could really relate to this little girl.
03:31Yeah, when it comes to more like technicalities, like it was really interesting for me
03:36because I could use a lot of range of my voice and do different things with it
03:43and use different registers and different shades and colors.
03:50So that was quite of a challenge, but I really liked it.
03:54Well, everything was great for you today.
04:06I Christianity
04:08yeah! But I
04:15got one strong So I
04:23was quite a little too Your love
04:24you to take bees
04:36So Resident Evil is very special for me because it's one of these projects where we've been
04:41able to push the boundaries in terms of what we can create with textures of sound. Being able to
04:46take what we do here at the studio, the hundreds of instruments and objects and sounds and record
04:53them in such ways that you wouldn't even imagine that what they are is what is creating the sound.
05:00And at the same time these sounds are able to invoke very extreme emotions, extreme darkness,
05:06extreme fear and at the same time there's a humanity to it, there's a realness to it and
05:14all of this within the canvases of Resident Evil has been a huge part of the growth that I've done
05:21as
05:21as an artist, as a composer. It's been a huge part of how I've grown as an artist, as a
05:27composer and
05:28as a team here at the studio.
05:32So this song is deeply connected to Village and we really hope that you play the game until the
05:37very end to discover what it really means.
05:39I hope you really enjoy Village and that you really like the song but to really understand
05:46what the song is about you need to complete the game and good luck with that.
05:50So this
06:09This song조 sake
06:12you
