00:31So, Mecha Kingdoms is a new idea for us that we're exploring.
00:35It's a different way of looking at our League of Legends champions
00:38and presenting them as giant mechas that are protecting the world.
00:44For Mecha Kingdoms, we wanted to tap back into the fantasies of this kind of Asian-inspired mythology,
00:51drawing a lot from history, such as Three Kingdoms and Chinese history,
00:55but also incorporating this really cool futuristic sci-fi twist.
01:00So, the story is that there are these Three Kingdoms and outer territories as well
01:05who fought to rule across the land, and suddenly, sort of, these giant Leviathans came up from the sea
01:10and they were invading humanity.
01:12Just with their, sort of, normal human armies, they weren't able to defeat these monsters,
01:17and so they were blessed by this technology that they're not exactly sure where it came from.
01:21And with this, they're able to construct really immense, huge, towering mechs.
01:26And so, with all the Kingdoms united, there's these mechs going into battle against these monsters.
01:37The Mecha Skin line, traditionally, has been for more creature-type characters.
01:41Mecha Kingdoms are piloted robots, but they're not just robots, like the Praetorian skins,
01:47so we want the pilot's personality to come through.
01:50We went through multiple rounds of iterations on, like, what's the technology behind this, right?
01:55Like, what's driving these things?
01:57Once we figured that out, then it locks in a direction for how we can build the mechs around them.
02:02Aside from that, the actual visual language that we're using,
02:05is a blend between the organic, flowy shapes that we've established in our previous lines for Lunar Rebel,
02:10layered into not only the silhouette, but also the surface detail and filigree that you see on the mechs themselves.
02:18Some of our biggest challenges were conveying that sense of weight and scale.
02:23Because in League of Legends, you might be coming into lane, like a giant Mecha,
02:27but then there's a Teemo there who's tiny.
02:29And so we're able to kind of tackle some of those challenges in the VFX, or the animation.
02:34So a lot of it is marrying these elements that ground it in the real world,
02:37like dust and debris, and are kicked up by these huge mechs.
02:44For Jax, we went into a lot more detail.
02:47So for his recall, we see him landing in a small little village,
02:50and so we get to see what that town looks like.
02:52And same with when he respawns, he's being carried in by these little floating armada ships
02:57that are, like, literally delivering the mech there.
02:59When he's running into battle, you've got the ships flying with him as well.
03:02So all these tiny little details.
03:14Selling the size was the hardest thing.
03:16We can't make something sound massive in League to the point where it pulls away from the gameplay,
03:22because gameplay trumps all, even in our designing.
03:24Since we don't have an established idea of what this sounds like,
03:27it was kind of like, let's figure it out.
03:29It was a lot of experimenting with different types of metal sounds,
03:32and a lot of different types of heavy impacts,
03:34and metal movements and stuff like that.
03:42One of the things I wanted to introduce to the Mecha Kingdoms
03:44is kind of like a magic influence.
03:53that's kind of like what's helping separate the Mecha Kingdoms from, like, the regular Mecha.
04:03Because this is such an anachronistic but unique sort of universe,
04:08we wanted to see how we could make the Mechs feel that they are empowering and fit that Mech fantasy,
04:14while making them feel like they were built in this period that was heavily inspired by East Asian mythology.
04:20We get to really invent that universe together.
04:23Artists are working with narrative, we're working with designers,
04:25and making sure this all feels like a cohesive package.
04:28I hope players feel like this is something different,
04:31and that they also feel the sense of scale and grandeur of these big Mechas,
04:36and that they see that they're not just Mechas,
04:39but because of the way they look, the way they move,
04:41that there's something more.
04:42All right.
