00:08I think everyone has the dream of being an astronaut when they're a little boy, right?
00:12The idea of being up in space looking out on these beautiful panoramics
00:16and the cold, airless environments that you'd be working in,
00:19kind of having that different experience.
00:22And we thought, oh, what a great way to put the player in some really unique experiences.
00:27Zero gravity in Dead Space is completely unique because it's realistic.
00:33And, you know, we studied NASA and JPL websites.
00:37We found out how much a hand weighs, how much a head weighs in Zero-G
00:42because we wanted that realistic weight.
00:44And that was very, very important to the game.
00:46There are a few ways the gameplay in Zero-G works in Dead Space.
00:49There are places where Isaac is just in a vacuum.
00:52He's got air, but he can jump.
00:54He can jump across giant chasms, or he can walk on walls using his magnetic boots.
00:59At least 20% of the game is Zero-Gravity.
01:02And, you know, in some places, you know, you're in combat.
01:06In other places, you're, you know, maybe walking around an area.
01:09But then, you know, you have to jump from one area to another.
01:13Isaac's going to be faced with a number of challenges in Zero-G.
01:16Sometimes he's going to be in a completely hostile environment,
01:19out on the edge of a ship, being bombarded with hazards from the environment,
01:23and having to manage his air supply.
01:25At other times, he'll be inside a ship, less worried about his air supply,
01:28but being overrun by the necromorphs.
01:30So going from gravity to Zero-G is different in different parts of the game.
01:35As you enter into space, you'll notice that the tone of the game gets cold.
01:40It gets blue.
01:41The audio muffles out like you'd expect in a vacuum.
01:44And, you know, depending on whether it's airless or not,
01:47if it's also airless, there's no sound.
01:49You just hear, you know, your heart beating, your breathing.
01:53So we have necromorphs that are particularly effective in gravity,
01:58and some that have the ability to handle Zero-gravity really well.
02:02It's sort of a horror or terror angle.
02:06Zero-G is also a little different than regular gravity.
02:10The idea that an enemy can come from you at any angle,
02:13that the floor may become the ceiling,
02:15and the ceiling and the floor at any point as you jump across these rooms.
02:18So I'm on the floor, and I jump through the ceiling.
02:21The whole room will reorient.
02:23So now you're on the ceiling, and you're like, okay, where was I?
02:27And you've kind of got to look around for landmarks on where you are
02:31and kind of get your bearings pretty quickly,
02:33because if you're in the middle of a battle,
02:34you've got to figure out where you are.
02:36So you'll find that some of your strategies that you use in a gravity environment
02:41have to change when you get into an environment
02:43where you have leapers that are flying across the room at you.
02:46that you can't outrun them.
02:48They can jump as far and as fast as you can.
02:50So the combat changes, and you have to learn to take advantage of that.
02:54My favorite moment in Zero-G was one of the first times
02:58that we actually walk into a room that's gravity,
03:03and you turn gravity off, and things start to float up in the air.
03:09I mean, all of a sudden, you feel like you're in a completely different world.
03:12And that was the moment that we knew we had something special.
03:24that was a very difficult time to jump that way in this film,
03:32It was the first time that it was impossible for us
03:32If you normally knew it's raining,
03:32Grazie.
