05:45Nice.
05:45You know you have a friend.
05:47I don't care.
05:48I don't want friends anymore.
05:50Besides, it's better not to have any.
05:52Kevin!
05:53Don't say that.
05:54Why not?
05:55Who cares?
05:58This is more serious than I thought.
06:07Don't worry.
06:15Tender Heart called everyone to a meeting in the Hall of Hearts.
06:20They decided this was a job for all of them.
06:25After all, ten bears who care are better than two.
06:31If Kevin saw how many new friends he had, he wouldn't feel so bad.
06:47Wow!
06:49There's so many of you.
06:52I'm so glad to see you.
06:54Kevin just ran away.
06:56Oh, no.
06:58I'll find him.
06:59I'll go.
07:00I should go.
07:00No, I'm going to.
07:02I want to.
07:02Why don't we all find him?
07:06They'd better hurry up.
07:08Because while they've been talking, Kevin's been wandering far away from his neighborhood.
07:14To the gates of a strange park.
07:31I don't care.
07:33Who cares?
07:35What?
07:36Sorry.
07:37I thought you wanted a drink.
07:40What are you doing here, anyway?
07:43I'm running away.
07:44That's none of my business.
07:46But if I were you, I wouldn't go in there.
07:50What are you doing here, anyway?
07:51Or I might be sorry.
07:55I don't care.
07:57Well, neither do I.
07:59But if I did, I'd turn right around.
08:03I don't care.
08:11It doesn't matter, anyway.
08:14Nothing matters to me.
08:16Nothing.
08:17I don't care about it.
08:17Kevin didn't notice that he walked right through the park and into a strange land.
08:23But he'd better watch out.
08:24Someone's been listening to him.
08:26Someone who lives in a place called Cold Heart Castle.
08:34Someone cold and heartless.
08:37Someone like him.
08:41I don't want friends anymore.
08:43And I don't care.
08:45What's that?
08:46I don't care.
08:48I'm not gonna do it.
08:51Who cares?
08:53I don't...
08:55Ah!
08:56A new guest!
08:57I must go welcome him.
09:01My chariot!
09:19You!
09:20Are you the boy who doesn't care?
09:25Uh, yeah?
09:26Good.
09:28You've come to the right place.
09:31Nobody cares about anything here.
09:34Right, boys?
09:36Who...
09:36Who are they?
09:38Well, they could be my friends.
09:41But I don't care about them.
09:43So they're not.
09:44Who are you?
09:47Allow me to introduce myself.
09:50They call me Professor Cold Heart.
09:53I'm cold and cruel and crafty.
09:55But wait.
09:56Here comes the best part.
09:58I'll freeze your feelings cold as ice.
10:00And chill your cares.
10:02Oh, that sounds nice.
10:03So listen.
10:04Here's some sound advice.
10:05Be smart!
10:06Don't mess with the professor.
10:08C-C-C-C-C-Cating.
10:10C-C-C-C-Clever Cold Heart.
10:13I've heard you've been complaining.
10:16There's no need to cry or whine.
10:18I refrigerate those feelings.
10:21Who have found you just in time?
10:23My icy stare can hypnotize.
10:26My chilling thoughts can paralyze.
10:29I knew we'd get along right from the start.
10:32Don't mess with the professor.
10:34C-C-C-C-creepy.
10:35C-C-C-C-Crafty.
10:37C-C-C-C-Cunning.
10:38C-C-C-C-Clever Cold Heart.
10:40Don't mess with the professor.
10:43Cold Heart.
10:46Well, my boy, shall I go to my castle?
10:49You won't have a care in the world.
10:53I don't...
10:54Care?
10:55Good.
10:55What?
11:09Vicky went in there?
11:13Kevin!
11:14Kevin!
11:15Kevin!
11:17Wait! All at once!
11:22Kevin!
11:26What's going on here?
11:29What's all the noise about?
11:31Have you seen Kevin?
11:33You mean a grouchy little squirt
11:35in blue pants and a t-shirt
11:38who doesn't care about anything?
11:40Yes.
11:42No.
11:43But if I had,
11:45he might have gone in there.
11:48In there?
11:49Thanks! Let's go!
11:52Of course.
11:54None of my business.
12:03Where are we anyway?
12:05Pardon me.
12:07Could you tell us what place this is?
12:09No.
12:10We're looking for a little boy.
12:12I don't like little boys.
12:15I don't like little bears either.
12:17Don't bother us!
12:19Wow!
12:20Meany city!
12:21Don't you want to be friends?
12:23No!
12:24Don't you care about loving and helping each other?
12:27No!
12:28Don't you care about anything?
12:31No!
12:32I was told about a beautiful place
12:34that was turned cold and ugly
12:36by a mean man.
12:38It was called
12:40The Land Without Feelings.
12:45That's here all right.
12:48What now?
12:48Any ideas?
12:50Take a nap?
12:52No.
12:52Make a wish.
12:53Have a party!
12:54No.
12:55I meant any new ideas?
12:58Ouch.
13:00You broke my branch.
13:04Cheer up.
13:05You'll grow another next year.
13:07Even better.
13:08You must feel terrible.
13:11Everyone has feelings.
13:12I bet you have feelings too.
13:14I don't.
13:15Just look around.
13:15They're not hard to find.
13:17They're sitting right there inside you.
13:19Go away.
13:19Everyone has feelings.
13:21It's okay to let them cry.
13:23But why?
13:23Just open your heart and see what's there.
13:25It's easy to let your feelings fly.
13:28I'm not supposed to have feelings.
13:30Go away.
13:31What?
13:31I'm starting to cry.
13:33All you have to do is show you care.
13:37On everywhere.
13:39We'll be alive with feelings.
13:42Why, look.
13:43I'm starting to bloom.
13:44I can feel again.
13:46Everyone has feelings.
13:48We know your feelings too.
13:50I do.
13:51Who would have thought I'd feel so great?
13:53This is the time to celebrate.
13:55Everyone come along and let your feelings through.
14:03But what about Kevin?
14:04Is that the little boy?
14:06Yes.
14:07I'm afraid he's been taken to Coldheart Castle.
14:11Coldheart Castle?
14:13An evil man named Professor Coldheart lives there.
14:18And whenever little children enter this place.
14:22You must be thirsty.
14:26Aren't you, Kevin?
14:29Well, I'd like something cold.
14:35Very cold.
14:38Drink up, my boy.
14:40Well, I, uh...
14:42Cup, come.
14:43Drink.
14:46I...
14:47Feel anything?
14:51No?
14:53Good.
14:55Hey!
14:56What's happening to me?
15:00Quiet, slave!
15:02Quiet, slave!
15:07And they are never seen or heard from again.
15:11Oh, no!
15:12We have to rescue him!
15:14How do we get there?
15:16Well, there is a trail that starts at the end of the park.
15:21But it's very dangerous.
15:22Do you really care enough to risk it?
15:26Yes!
15:27You'd better stay here, Donna.
15:29Grumpy and Wishbear will take care of you.
15:31But I want to go, too!
15:34This is our job.
15:35Let's go!
15:38I hope Professor Coldheart doesn't find out they're coming.
15:45What's that?
15:47Little friendly fuzzies?
15:50With things on their tummies?
15:54In my kingdom?
15:57Disgusting, isn't it?
15:59I'll soon take care of them!
16:05I wonder if we'll ever get across.
16:12Sure we will.
16:13Watch.
16:20That's using your heart.
16:22Here goes!
16:28Let's go for the swim.
16:38Oh!
16:41This'll cool you off!
16:46Come on!
16:48Hurry!
16:48Swim for it!
16:51Little bearsicles!
16:57The water's frozen.
16:59We're stuck.
17:01Go help Kevin.
17:01We'll be all right.
17:03Okay.
17:03We're on our way.
17:09Everybody here?
17:11Where's bedtime?
17:13He fell asleep back there.
17:15All the excitement made him sleepy.
17:18Breathing makes him sleepy.
17:20Let's go.
17:21Whoops!
17:25One side, please.
17:27I'll handle this.
17:39Colourful little trick.
17:41Colours fade quickly here.
17:49Whoops!
17:51I'm afraid to look!
17:53Are you okay?
17:57Yeah.
17:58We're all right.
17:59Keep going!
18:08This isn't easy, is it?
18:16Onward and upward!
18:18Rebel!
18:21Oh!
18:24Big heart, isn't he?
18:26But even big hearts can be broken.
18:40I'm stuck.
18:41Don't worry.
18:43I'll save us all.
18:46I hope.
18:58I hope.
19:02Looks like the end of the trail.
19:07Huh?
19:32That's what you get for being so tender-hearted.
19:35So much for love, friendship, and fussy wuzzies.
19:39It's, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
19:56They've been gone for so long.
19:58I hope nothing bad happened.
20:00Hmph.
20:01They probably just got lost.
20:03If only we could help.
20:06I know, let's make a wish.
20:08That won't help.
20:10How do you know?
20:12Nobody ever lets me finish my wishes.
20:16I wish...
20:17I wish...
20:20I wish we were all in the castle right now.
20:27I knew nothing would happen.
20:30See?
20:32If you wish hard enough...
20:40How did you get here?
20:43Uh, never mind.
20:45Where's Kevin?
20:46Kevin?
20:47Kevin?
20:49Oh, yes.
20:51Here he is.
20:54But that's not Kevin.
20:57We want him like he was.
20:59Oh, that's impossible.
21:01What do we do now?
21:04Be very loud.
21:05Let's make a wish.
21:06No, no, no.
21:07No, no, no.
21:08Be cheerful.
21:09Have a birthday party.
21:11Don't worry, Kevin.
21:12They'll think of something.
21:13Wait.
21:14We have to care all together.
21:16You mean use.
21:18The Care Bears stare.
21:21The what?
21:24You need to be taught a lesson about caring.
21:28Care Bears, get ready to care.
21:34Prepare to stare.
21:37Stare there!
21:38Stare there!
21:57answer that!
21:58You know what?
22:06Obviously, no need to be predicted.
22:08You need to be prepared for this other pizza match.
22:10Kevin, I'm so glad it's you again!
22:13Me too!
22:15Thank you very much. We're not his slaves anymore.
22:20Uh-oh. Time for a little trip.
22:27You win, little fuzzies. For now.
22:32But you haven't heard the last from Professor Coldheart.
22:41Ah!
22:53Ah!
22:58Oh!
22:59Ah!
23:01Ah!
23:03Ugh!
23:05Oh!
23:07Ah!
23:07Ah!
23:07Ah!
23:17Well, that sure was a close one for Kevin.
23:21But everything worked out in the end.
23:25Kevin's parents promised to come back and see everyone soon.
23:29And they said Donna could visit any time.
23:42The land without feelings became a land of love and friendship again.
23:49And the Care Bears, they're back in Care-A-Lot.
24:03Oh, you know who won the award?
24:06They couldn't decide.
24:08So they all shared it.
24:10Just like them, huh?
24:15Yeah.
24:16Just like them.
24:37Care Bears care a lot about you, they care a lot about you.
25:01Now that you've traveled with us to the magical world of the Care Bears,
25:05you'll be so happy to know that another whole world of adventure is now available from the Parker Brothers Care
25:12Bears book series.
25:13The Care Bears help us share and express our feelings in 12 exciting story books, all filled with love, friendship,
25:22caring, and dreams.
25:24And for that special time before you fall asleep at night, the Care Bears will come alive in their wonderful
25:30collection of fairy tales.
25:31The Care Bears book of favorite bedtime stories.
25:35The Care Bears books are filled with so much magic and fun, you won't want to put them down.
25:40Now hurry and join the Care Bears in two of their most caring adventures ever, a friend for Francis and
25:48a sister for Sam.
25:58It was hot.
26:00It felt like summer to Francis, but it was really fall, September, time for a new school year to begin.
26:07At breakfast, Francis' mother asked,
26:10Would you like me to drive you to school today?
26:12No thanks, Mom, Francis answered.
26:15Francis thought to herself,
26:18I think I am grown up enough to go by myself.
26:20After all, I am in the third grade.
26:23Francis kissed her mother and left for the bus stop.
26:26Since it was her first day at a new school,
26:29Francis had to admit to herself that she was feeling a little shy.
26:32What if no one spoke to her?
26:34I hope I'm not the only new girl in the third grade, she said to herself.
26:39I hope I am lucky enough to make a new friend.
26:42Suddenly, Francis heard a merry voice.
26:44Good luck, you know, is all around.
26:47Look for it well, and it can be found.
26:52Francis spun around, and there, leaning up against the bus stop sign,
26:57was a little green bear with a four-leaf clover on its tummy.
27:01The bear grinned and spoke.
27:04I'm one of the Care Bears.
27:06Good luck is my name.
27:08You haven't found luck yet.
27:10I think it's a shame.
27:11So I'll give you this clover.
27:14Its color is green.
27:16Its four leaves bring luck.
27:18You'll see what I mean.
27:21You mean that I might really have good luck today?
27:24Asked Francis.
27:26Good luck bear answered.
27:28That's just what I mean.
27:30Your wish can come true.
27:32Good luck can be yours, but it's all up to you.
27:35The bus drew up to the stop, and Francis got on.
27:38She turned to wave to good luck bear,
27:40but he had disappeared.
27:42Everyone on the bus seemed to know everyone else,
27:45so Francis took a seat by herself.
27:47No one seems to notice that I'm here, Francis thought glumly.
27:51I'll bet third grade is going to be terrible.
27:54The work will be hard, and the teacher will be mean.
27:57I'm not lucky at all.
27:59I must have imagined that good luck bear.
28:01But when Francis looked in her pocket,
28:04she still had the lucky green clover.
28:07At school, Francis walked down the hall to her new classroom.
28:10She remembered her old school and all her old friends.
28:14Francis suddenly wanted to be back there,
28:16where she felt safe and comfortable.
28:19Francis sat down and noticed a girl who wore a pretty purple dress.
28:23Purple was Francis' favorite color.
28:26Francis also saw that the girl wore lovely silver earrings.
28:30Francis wished she owned earrings like those.
28:33The girl noticed Francis staring at her and stared back.
28:36Francis felt shy and looked away.
28:39Mrs. Rose, the teacher, came in.
28:41She welcomed the class, asked everybody to sit down,
28:44and began to take attendance.
28:46Whenever Mrs. Rose called a name,
28:48one of the other students would have something to say.
28:50Bobby Kelly,
28:52Hey, Bobby, how'd you get your broken arm?
28:55Kathy Lee,
28:57Kathy likes Tommy.
28:59But when Mrs. Rose called Francis' name,
29:02no one said anything.
29:04Francis answered,
29:05Here.
29:06In a small voice, she felt all alone.
29:10Then Mrs. Rose called,
29:12Holly Pepper?
29:13And the girl with the beautiful purple dress answered,
29:16Present.
29:17Francis thought,
29:18What a beautiful name.
29:19Holly must be the most popular girl in the class.
29:23Francis was thinking so hard
29:25that she didn't realize that the room was silent
29:27after Holly's name had been called, too.
29:30Mrs. Rose asked the class to write a story about summer.
29:34And as Francis started to write,
29:36she heard a strange sound.
29:37Psst, Francis, look over here,
29:40said a soft, furry voice.
29:43Francis looked toward the sound.
29:45Outside the classroom window
29:46was a little bear with a shooting star on its tummy.
29:50It's me, wish bear.
29:52Good luck bear told me about your wish.
29:54I've come from Carolat to give you some good advice.
29:58Remember this.
29:59If you forget your own troubles
30:01and think about others,
30:03your wish will come true.
30:05I'm an expert on wishes,
30:07so just remember what I say.
30:10Francis blinked her eyes.
30:11Could there really be a bear outside the window?
30:14When she blinked again,
30:16the bear was gone,
30:17leaving behind a trail of stardust.
30:20The morning passed,
30:22and then it was time for lunch.
30:24Francis worried as the class walked in line to the lunchroom.
30:27Would anyone sit with her?
30:29In the lunchroom, the kids sat in groups.
30:32Francis saw that there was no room for her at the first table,
30:34so she took a seat at the next one.
30:36She opened her lunchbox and began to eat.
30:39Francis noticed Holly sitting at a nearby table.
30:42Holly's lunchbox had a pretty rainbow on the front.
30:45Then a bunch of boys sat down at the table where Holly was sitting.
30:49Eric looked at Holly and said,
30:51Yuck!
30:52This is our place.
30:54We always sit here, Lou added.
30:56It's a free country, Holly answered.
30:59I'm new, and I didn't know that this was your table.
31:02Holly picked up her lunchbox and walked away.
31:06Francis was so surprised.
31:08She hadn't realized Holly was a new girl, too.
31:11Maybe she should have sat next to her.
31:13Oh, well, it was too late now.
31:15Lunch would soon be over.
31:17The afternoon passed quickly, and soon it was time to go home.
31:21Francis was glad to get to her house.
31:23She made a snack and went out into the yard.
31:26The day had been hard for her,
31:27but she knew that it had been for Holly, too.
31:31From the shadows behind a tree,
31:32she heard a gentle voice say,
31:34I think that you're on the right track, Francis.
31:37Think about how Holly must be feeling right now.
31:40Before she knew it,
31:41Francis was joined by a light brown bear
31:43with a big heart on its tummy.
31:46Which one are you?
31:48Francis asked.
31:49I'm Tender Heart Bear.
31:50I like to help people be nice to each other
31:53so that love can spread and grow.
31:57I wanted to be nice, Francis said,
32:00but no one talked to me.
32:02I was all alone and wished that someone would notice me.
32:05I felt awful.
32:07I think everyone must have noticed Holly.
32:09She was wearing a beautiful dress and had silver earrings.
32:13Tender Heart took Francis by the hand.
32:15Is that how you really feel about Holly?
32:18Do you think she is any happier than you are right now?
32:22I guess not, Francis admitted.
32:24She's a new girl, too.
32:27Tender Heart answered.
32:29Why don't you see if the two new girls
32:31can start being friends tomorrow?
32:33Holly needs a friend just as much as you do.
32:37Then Tender Heart scampered back behind a tree and was gone.
32:41The next morning at school, Francis' class had Jim.
32:44Everyone ran outside to the playing field.
32:47This will be a good chance to talk to Holly, Francis thought.
32:51The class quickly divided into two teams for a relay race.
32:55The rules were easy.
32:57Touch the base at one end of the course
32:59and pass the stick at the other.
33:01Francis was excited because she knew that she could run fast.
33:05One, two, three, go!
33:09The first girl on Francis' team was slow.
33:12Her team began to lose.
33:13Everyone was yelling.
33:15Finally, only Francis and Holly were left to run for the two teams.
33:19Francis ran as fast as she could,
33:21but Holly made it back first.
33:23Francis' team lost.
33:25Francis felt miserable.
33:27Holly's team was giving her a cheer,
33:29but Francis' team seemed angry that they had lost,
33:32and they just looked at Francis' as if she had done something stupid.
33:35Now, Holly would have lots of new friends, Francis thought,
33:39and she would have none.
33:42After Jim, Francis walked back to the classroom alone.
33:45As she sat down at her desk,
33:46she tried to believe what the Care Bears had told her,
33:49but it seemed very hard.
33:51The rest of the class came in,
33:53and Holly walked right over to Francis and stood next to her.
33:56You are a good runner,
33:59Holly said.
34:00Francis started to look away,
34:02but remembered the big red heart on Tenderheart's tummy.
34:05She turned toward Holly.
34:07You're a good runner, too.
34:09Your team won.
34:10But you ran fast,
34:12Holly said.
34:13Our team was ahead from the start.
34:15That's why we won.
34:17I had too big a lead.
34:18This school is full of slowpokes,
34:21except for you.
34:22My old school was better.
34:24Mine, too, Francis said.
34:26I loved gym class at my old school.
34:28I miss playing with my friends.
34:31Me, too, Holly agreed.
34:33Guess what?
34:34At my old school,
34:35my best friend was Francis,
34:36just like your name.
34:38Francis thought for a minute.
34:40If I become your new friend,
34:42then you'll have two friends with the same name.
34:45It will be the same, but different.
34:47Great, said Holly.
34:49I was wishing for a special friend
34:51just like the old Francis.
34:52Now I have one.
34:54I wished for a friend, too,
34:56said Francis.
34:58Do you want to come over
34:59and play at my house tomorrow?
35:00We can run races.
35:03On the bus ride home the next day,
35:05Francis and Holly sat together.
35:07Francis felt happy.
35:09Her wish had come true.
35:11Maybe third grade
35:12was not going to be so bad after all.
35:15As the bus slowed down near her stop,
35:18Francis thought that she could see
35:20three bears looking out from the bushes
35:22and waving to her.
35:23She smiled and waved back.
35:26Then she and Holly hopped off the bus
35:28and raced home to play together.
35:40It was morning.
35:41Sam could tell by the noises and the smells.
35:45He could hear water running in the shower.
35:47And he could smell bacon cooking in the kitchen.
35:50Sam rolled over and jumped out of bed
35:53and went to find his father and his mother.
35:56Here I am, Daddy.
35:57Where's Mommy?
35:59Daddy picked Sam up and said,
36:01I have something to tell you.
36:03Last night while you were asleep,
36:05I took Mommy to the hospital.
36:06This morning you have a baby sister.
36:09Her name is Emily.
36:11Who stayed with me while you were gone?
36:13Asked Sam.
36:14Grandma.
36:15She's in the kitchen right now.
36:17If you go downstairs,
36:18I'm sure she'll give you your breakfast.
36:20After Sam gave Grandma a good morning hug,
36:22he had many questions to ask.
36:25How big is my sister?
36:26Does she have hair?
36:28What can she do?
36:29Will she talk to me?
36:31Grandma answered,
36:33Emily weighs a little less than your cat,
36:36about eight pounds.
36:37She can't say anything yet,
36:39but she does know how to cry.
36:41And when will Mommy be home?
36:43Asked Sam.
36:44Mommy will be home in three days.
36:46Then you'll be able to see just what Emily is like,
36:50said Grandma.
36:50After breakfast,
36:52Sam went to his room and sat on his bed.
36:54There were questions that he hadn't dared ask Grandma.
36:58Will I like this baby?
37:00Will this baby like me?
37:02He wished there were someone
37:04who could answer those questions.
37:07Three days later,
37:08a fat bundle was brought home from the hospital.
37:11Everyone, including Sam,
37:13watched Mommy unwrap the baby.
37:15Isn't she pretty?
37:17Said Grandma.
37:18Isn't she cute?
37:20Said Aunt Ellen.
37:22Isn't she sweet?
37:23Said Uncle George.
37:25Isn't she lovely?
37:27Said Grandpa.
37:29Sam wondered why everybody was making such a fuss
37:32over a sleeping baby.
37:34Aunt Ellen gave Emily a stuffed animal.
37:37Uncle George took some pictures.
37:39Sam thought,
37:40I don't know why everyone is so interested in Emily.
37:43She's boring.
37:44She doesn't even talk.
37:46Then Sam went to his room.
37:48It was raining and Sam stared out the window.
37:51He needed someone to talk to.
37:53Suddenly,
37:54a rainbow shone in the sky
37:56and behind him,
37:58Sam heard a cheery voice saying,
38:00I'm sure that your baby sister is going to like you.
38:03And most of the time,
38:05you are going to like her too.
38:07Sam turned around
38:09and there,
38:10sitting in his chair,
38:11was a smiling bear
38:12with a rainbow shining on its tummy.
38:15Who are you
38:16and where did you come from?
38:18Sam asked.
38:19My name is Cheer Bear.
38:22Let's just say
38:23Rainbows and I
38:24sometimes come together.
38:25I think I can help answer your questions.
38:28I'll stay around a while
38:30if that's all right with you.
38:32Sam thought that sounded like a good idea,
38:34for he did have things to say.
38:37Cheer Bear,
38:37he said.
38:39I don't think I like my new baby sister.
38:42Cheer Bear,
38:43who always knew just the right thing to say,
38:46answered.
38:47Sometimes,
38:48you may feel left out
38:50when your sister gets a lot of attention.
38:52You may even say to yourself,
38:55Mommy and Daddy don't love me anymore.
38:57They just love Emily.
38:59They do love you,
39:01you know.
39:02But when you feel that way,
39:04be sure to come and tell me.
39:06I'll give you a warm bear hug.
39:09Emily cried a lot at first.
39:11Sometimes it seemed that she cried day and night.
39:14When Emily's crying woke him up,
39:16Sam turned to Cheer Bear and said,
39:18Why can't Emily say something
39:20instead of making all that noise?
39:23Cheer Bear,
39:24who always knew just the right thing to say,
39:26answered,
39:28Sometimes Emily is a bother to all of us.
39:30I know that you don't like it when Emily cries.
39:33When you feel that way,
39:35talk to me.
39:36If you tell me,
39:37you won't feel so angry inside.
39:40When Emily wasn't crying,
39:42she was usually sleeping.
39:43And whenever she woke up,
39:45her diaper needed changing.
39:47Then she needed milk
39:49and sometimes another diaper.
39:51Sam had to wait for what he needed.
39:54And he didn't like that one bit.
39:58Sometimes Sam pretended that Emily wasn't there.
40:01Sometimes he tried to interrupt.
40:03Sometimes he stamped his feet and shouted.
40:07When that happened,
40:09Sam was usually sent to his room.
40:11Sam would lie on his bed
40:13and not talk to anybody.
40:14Or he would hide under the bed.
40:17When Sam felt a little better,
40:19he would talk to Cheer Bear.
40:21Bear, he said,
40:24Sometimes Emily makes me so mad.
40:27Cheer Bear,
40:29who always knew just the right thing to say,
40:32answered,
40:32Sam, I know that you are angry.
40:36Show me how angry you are
40:37and I'll watch.
40:39And Cheer Bear watched Sam
40:41throw his toys on the floor and cry.
40:44When Sam finished crying,
40:46he and Cheer Bear played a game.
40:48You know, Sam,
40:49said Cheer Bear,
40:51Emily won't always be so small.
40:53She is going to grow
40:54and become more interesting.
40:57Emily did grow
40:59and she did become more interesting,
41:01just as Cheer Bear said she would.
41:04Emily learned to roll over,
41:07to smile,
41:09to hold things,
41:11and to make noises.
41:14Emily learned to sit up,
41:16then to crawl,
41:18and finally to stand.
41:21The hair on her head turned to curls
41:23and the smile on her face turned to giggles.
41:27Mommy and Daddy said,
41:28I know Emily likes you a lot.
41:31How do they know?
41:33Sam thought.
41:34Emily doesn't talk.
41:35Now that Emily could move around,
41:38she got into Sam's things.
41:41Emily could knock down a building,
41:43tear a picture,
41:46pull a book from the shelf,
41:48and throw a truck on the floor.
41:51Whenever Emily made a mess,
41:53Sam got mad.
41:55Sometimes Sam got so mad,
41:56he would try to make Emily cry.
41:58Sam soon found out that scaring Emily
42:01did not make her cry.
42:02Emily just made noises.
42:07And those noises made Sam even madder.
42:11Sam told Cheer Bear what he thought.
42:14Bear, he asked.
42:16When will those silly noises stop?
42:18I want to talk to Emily.
42:20Cheer Bear, who always knew
42:22just the right thing to say, answered,
42:25I think Emily is getting ready to talk.
42:28Making noises is her way of practicing.
42:31Sam decided to help Emily learn to talk.
42:34Ball, say ball.
42:36Gah, said Emily.
42:38Truck, say truck.
42:39Gah, said Emily.
42:41Cat, say cat.
42:43Gah, said Emily.
42:45Every day, Sam tried to teach Emily a word.
42:47And every day, Emily made different noises.
42:50Emily even made noises at Bear.
42:53Bear, say bear.
42:55But Emily only grinned.
42:57At Emily's first birthday party,
42:59everyone wondered what her first word would be.
43:02I'm sure that it will be Mama, said Sam's mother.
43:05I'm sure that it will be Daddy, said Sam's father.
43:09I'm sure it will be Sam, said Sam.
43:13In the middle of the party, Mother said,
43:15Shh, I think Emily is talking.
43:18She's trying to say something.
43:20Everyone listened.
43:21Emily did not say Mama.
43:23Emily did not say Daddy.
43:26Emily did not say Sam.
43:29Emily said Bear.
43:31Sam was happy.
43:33Emily had said a word that was special to him.
43:36Emily was going to be an okay sister.
43:39Then Sam looked up and smiled.
43:42For there, outside in the sky, was a rainbow.
45:17Something very exciting is happening in Strawberryland.
45:20The girls meet a beautiful princess and her little friends, the Berrykins.
45:25Shortcake and her friends.
45:27Hello.
45:29Who are they?
45:30Each Berrykin has a scent all his own to flavor the fruits of Strawberryland.
45:35But their wonderful aromas are being destroyed by the purple rain from the purple cloud from the purple pieman of
45:42Porcupine Peak's chimney.
45:44I wonder if it's safe to release all these ghastly smelling gases outside.
45:49What possible damage could a few little whiffs of this vile vapor do?
45:56Something is rotten in Strawberryland.
