00:00No fouls, inbound comes to Garland, 3 seconds, 2 seconds, going, on the drive, to the rim, layup is good,
00:06layup is good, St. John's wins it, 67-65, the St. John's Red Storm, storm into the Sweet 16 for
00:19the first time since 1999.
00:24KFC Masterpiece back here on 105.3 The Fan, I thought that moment was incredible, I thought Kansas' strategy with
00:30the fouls was really smart, but I would have kept one more to save and used it on something like
00:38that drive if you could have, but I thought the way they chipped away at the clock was really impressive,
00:43I thought the way they made the comeback was really impressive, but then again, they lost, so do you care
00:48about any of that?
00:49877-881-1053, are you thriving through the first two rounds of March Madness, or is your bracket totally busted?
00:58Corey, bonus question from 8214, somebody texted in, apparently there's one perfect bracket left out of 26.6 million, if
01:08that is the case, would you try to track down that bracket, and if you do like a re-bracket,
01:14would you try to just follow all of their picks?
01:16Yes. I don't know what a re-bracket is, but I respect your question.
01:21You get to pick them all over again.
01:25Yes, because having a perfect bracket, having the perfect bracket, nobody's ever done it, except for me, one time. Actually,
01:33I think I missed the, it was the final game, I got it wrong, if I remember correctly.
01:38That means that person's 48-0?
01:40Yeah, and that's impressive. I think, yes, as of yesterday, there were two perfect brackets, but they were both different.
01:49Yeah, I was going to say those last few games might have messed that up.
01:52And so, like this, yeah, absolutely, here's my question about this, will somebody buy that bracket?
02:00You know how you always talk about the tickets?
02:03Like a cash-out? Yeah.
02:04Somebody, like, hey, this guy has a, you know, it's a bet that he put down, it's now up to,
02:09you know, $2 million, and you can buy it out for $150,000, or something like that, whatever it is.
02:16Would somebody ever do that, be like, hey, I will buy that bracket off of you right now?
02:20Well, I don't know what the, because is it in for the big prize? Is that what it means?
02:27And did they submit the exact same bracket all over the place, so you're going to win this prize, and
02:32this prize, and this prize?
02:32Oh, yeah, good job, yeah.
02:34Plus, you want to know the scoring structure, because there are, like, some brackets who just go points 1, 2,
02:403, 4, 5, 6.
02:41But then, like, our company bracket goes 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, I believe.
02:45But if it's a perfect bracket, it doesn't matter.
02:47If you think it's good, yeah.
02:49You're winning every damn bracket out there, if you have a perfect one.
02:53That is a really interesting question.
02:55I don't know the answer to that.
02:57I would say yes from the 3-2-1.
02:59Kevin, my bracket was busted the first day.
03:01Now, let's make sure we're following the correct rules on this.
03:05If you lose a game or a team that you had losing in the second round anyway, you're fine.
03:12Your bracket is not busted.
03:13If you had Florida winning it all, I could see how, perhaps, this morning, you think your bracket is well
03:20and truly busted.
03:20I did not have Florida in the Final Four.
03:23Neither did I.
03:24Did you have Houston?
03:25I did have Houston.
03:26I really hated the way the brackets were...
03:29I had three ones in the Final Four and not Florida.
03:32That means that we had the same Final Four.
03:34I was really wishing that St. John's would have been somewhere else.
03:38Like, if they would have been in Florida's bracket, I would have picked them to make the Final Four.
03:42I was surprised to see that upcoming Duke-St. John's game.
03:45Duke was favored by 6.5 and some early money push it up to 7.
03:49That number feels high.
03:51Here's kind of what I've been out on a little bit.
03:56Is...
03:59DeBonsa getting bounced early.
04:01I wanted to watch more DeBonsa.
04:02Me too.
04:03I had them in the Elite Eight.
04:05That one stung.
04:06I've kind of gotten to a point where I'm so mad at Peterson because of all the stories I hear
04:12about him
04:12that I don't want to watch him play.
04:14So what I've been most excited to watch has been Acuff.
04:19Sure.
04:19And he absolutely delivered for me this weekend.
04:23Like, that was an absolute joy of a game to watch.
04:27Was that Saturday night's game?
04:30Like, I was just locked in.
04:32Right.
04:32And I think, actually, Adrian and I were watching a movie, and I pulled the game up on my phone.
04:38So that's what I do.
04:39I get excited about watching players around this time.
04:43For sure, guys that especially with the Mavericks having a high pick that I want to pay attention to
04:47to see if the Mavericks might want to pick a guy like that.
04:50How would he fit next to Cooper Flagg?
04:53And, Kevin, I think you'd have a superiorly explosive offense if you had that dude.
04:57Agreed.
04:58Now, I will say, I was a little bit conflicted about that Arkansas game because the one kind of upset
05:04vibe I had going
05:06is I had high point in the Sweet 16.
05:08So I did have their win over Wisconsin.
05:12And when they were neck and neck with Arkansas, I was like, ooh, give me Arizona and high point
05:18because that is the matchup that I had in the Sweet 16.
05:21But you're right.
05:22Darius Acuff has looked tremendous thus far.
05:2736 points in that game.
05:28And he is super duper fun to watch.
05:31But I want to go back to the first round real quick and the favorites.
05:35The favorites on Friday were 16-0.
05:40In the first round, 13 of the first 32 games were decided by 20-plus points.
05:46How often do the favorites being undefeated happen?
05:51So here's the thing.
05:52Before last year, I would have told you it doesn't really happen.
05:57Remember, last year's bracket was super duper chalky.
06:01Yeah.
06:02And this one, what would you argue?
06:06There's three unexpected teams in the Sweet 16.
06:10Like, I realize if you go just by the seeding, St. John's over Kansas was an upset.
06:14But I think if you've been tracking those teams, that didn't really feel like an upset.
06:17Which means in the East, nobody.
06:21Obviously, Iowa upset.
06:22I think Tennessee upset.
06:25And, of course, Texas, who is the lone double-digit seed.
06:29But that's it.
06:30So, three of the 16 are not, like, super chalk.
06:35I can't believe that last week we did the segment of who do you hate during the NCAA tournament.
06:43Everybody said Duke, mostly because of you.
06:45But that was rude.
06:47You weren't even here to defend yourself.
06:49Well, if it helps, I have Duke losing in the final.
06:53I don't know that it helps, Kevin.
06:55But I appreciate you saying that.
06:57It would have helped more if they would have lost in the first round.
06:59But I brought up Texas as the team that I hate against, not because of my OU connection,
07:06but because of the history I have of picking Texas to go further than I expect them to go.
07:12And then they're like, first round, we're out of this B.
07:14And I'm like, why?
07:16Why would you do that?
07:17And they're like, we don't care about you.
07:20And here they are as an 11 seed going, we're going to run this thing up.
07:23And I'm just amazed by it right now, watching what Texas is doing here.
07:27Yeah, I mean, and they're the, obviously the clear Cinderella.
07:31I think they're the second biggest underdog going into the round of 16.
07:37I just saw somebody text in, and Jaygon said they have 15 of the sweet 16 teams.
07:44Well, I assume that means you are dominating your bracket.
07:48The only one they missed out on was Miami, and they have St. John's winning it all.
07:52There was a lot of people who were picking St. John's going into it.
07:55St. John's, by the way, them and Iowa are the only, this is the first time they've made it to
08:03the sweet 16 since 1999.
08:06Wow.
08:07Both of them.
08:08That was when I graduated high school, Kevin.
08:11So that was a long time ago.
08:13Yeah.
08:13What is the best round?
08:17I think you could make an argument it's this one, because you get the most number of probably quality games.
08:25Like, if somebody wants to say the Elite Eight, where it's nothing but, like, regional finals, I get that, but
08:30you only get four games.
08:31Here, you get eight games, and so I kind of factor that in a little bit.
08:34If you're just talking about quality of basketball, I think there's a pretty decent argument to be made.
08:39It could be this one.
08:40Yeah, I mean, this weekend was fun, right?
08:42It was.
08:42There were a lot of fun moments throughout the games and game winners.
08:47I go back to, was it Cameron Dollar that made the coast-to-coast for UCLA back in the day?
08:53Oh, yeah, that was super fun.
08:55And sometimes there are some real late games that stuff like that happens, but this is one of those weekends
09:01where I was like,
09:02this was a fun weekend of hoops.
09:04This was definitely a I-can-watch-it-all-day kind of thing.
09:07Now, nobody was having more fun than, I'm going to take you to cut number 11.
09:13We're going to give you a couple of different variations on this.
09:17So, this is the TNT call of Nebraska and Vanderbilt, and Nebraska wins by two, but Vanderbilt had an incredible
09:25shot at it.
09:26And it was like, in and then out.
09:30Vanderbilt, no timeouts.
09:31Half-court heave!
09:33Oh!
09:35Tanner hit and out!
09:39And Nebraska is on to the Sweet 16!
09:43Like, you know how during football season you'll see those wrap-up pictures and it was like, this person didn't
09:48get tackled.
09:49You saw this after the fact.
09:51The ball, like, looking like it was almost in, and it goes, this shot didn't go in, and it was
09:55really weird.
09:56So that is...
09:57Yeah, that's me.
09:58Yeah, you've got to keep it, like, even, Steven, and everything, but you don't have to do so if you're
10:03from Nebraska radio.
10:05Take it to cut number five and feel the excitement!
10:10Rebound Nebraska!
10:11Oscars have it, nine tickets left to go!
10:13But across the timeline, Price, Price, to Frager!
10:17I am!
10:18Yes!
10:19Yes!
10:19It's gone!
10:202.2!
10:21It's still 2.2!
10:23Long shot, no good!
10:25With 2.2 to go!
10:29Handed the ball.
10:30Gets it in.
10:31Two seconds.
10:32Half-court shot on the way.
10:34Oh, my God!
10:35It's no good!
10:36Oh, my God!
10:38In and out at the buzzer!
10:40Nebraska to the Sweet 16!
10:43It is a miracle finish for Nebraska, and it was destined to happen.
10:50It was destined to happen!
10:52All right.
10:53I want to know if we...
10:54That was awesome.
10:55Okay, it was.
10:56It was Tyus Edney, by the way.
10:57I appreciate that.
10:58There you go.
10:59Back it up just a little bit, if you can, the audio.
11:02But, Alec, I want to go back to the three-point attempt for Vanderbilt, because if you're just
11:08listening on the radio, doesn't it sound like for a second that shot went in for Vanderbilt?
11:14The way he just goes, oh, my God!
11:20On the fan.
11:21Tore a shot on the way.
11:23Oh, my God!
11:24It's no good!
11:24But, like, for half a second, oh, my God!
11:28It's no good!
11:29You would think, because, man, oh, man, did it look like that was going to go in.
11:33I thought that was super exciting.
11:35That is...
11:36When you said that's an awesome call, that's, like, the kind of enthusiasm you love to hear,
11:41right?
11:41Oh, yeah, dude.
11:42The High Point student radio call was insanely amazing.
11:47The kid had the put-on-the-glass slipper.
11:50I loved that.
11:51Like, absolutely.
11:52That's the kind of fun.
11:53And I don't care that his voice sounded like it was falling apart on him, all right?
11:57Or Pharrell.
11:59Remember that?
12:00He sounded...
12:00He said, everybody here on the night, or on the way, and...
12:04That was actually...
12:05That was pretty much how it sounded every night.
12:07If you're familiar with Pharrell, that's not too bad whatsoever.
12:12Can you go ahead and give me cut number 12, please, good sir, because I want to talk
12:17a little bit about UConn.
12:20Neither team has been able to grab control of this game.
12:22No lead bigger than six.
12:24Alex Caravan, three-pointers.
12:26Got it!
12:28There's your seven-point lead for UConn.
12:31Alex Caravan burying the three from the left side.
12:34He's got 22.
12:36So UConn, who moves on to the Sweet 16, and by the way, if you ask what team I'm rooting
12:40against, it's definitely UConn for a variety of reasons.
12:43But I want to go back to the first round for UConn and Terrace Reed.
12:4931 points, 27 rebounds.
12:51First person to put up that stat line with an efficient shooting percentage of 80% or
12:56better since Bill Walton.
12:57Nice!
12:58That was more than 50 years ago!
13:01Yeah, Bill Walton was amazing.
13:02So this guy going to have a Bill Walton career?
13:05Yeah, I guess if I had to say yes or no, I'd say no.
13:10Just like playing the odds, right?
13:12Okay, right.
13:13Okay.
13:13You never know, though.
13:14Hey, do you think it's more likely as a Bill Walton on-court career or announcing career?
13:21Um, on-court, because I think he has to have the on-court to get the announcing career.
13:26Okay.
13:27And because Bill Walton was as good as he was on-court, that's why he was able to get
13:31away with a bunch of the S that he got away with when he was on-court.
13:34That's true.
13:35You're like, is he on acid right now calling this game?
13:39I don't think he could rule it out.
13:41Well, by the way, before Iowa was victorious, the Big Ten had already made history.
13:47They had five teams in the Sweet 16.
13:50That's the most they've had since that round was created in 1975, and then Iowa won to make
13:56it six.
13:57Okay.
13:58So they have six of the Sweet 16 teams.
14:01So, good job, Big Ten.
14:03ACC, not so much.
14:05The only team they have in the Sweet 16 is Duke.
14:07Well, the conference just isn't good.
14:10I agree.
14:11The Big Ten, they have it rolling right now.
14:13They have the most money spent.
14:14Dad, no freaking kidding.
14:16Man, can you imagine going back if Duke would have lost and you'd be like, yeah, ACC has
14:21nobody and the Big Ten has six.
14:24Oof, that hurts.
