Plain-clothed officers are boarding services across the Metro network as part of a targeted policing operation. Officials say the move follows passenger concerns, while operators insist the system remains safe.

00:01Undercover Police are now travelling on Metro trains across Tyne and Weir as part of a new operation targeting crime.
00:07In the scheme, Operation Shield plainclothes officers from Northumbria Police will patrol services at different times,
00:13focusing on areas where passengers report concerns or where intelligence suggests offending.
00:20The Police and Crime Commissioner Susan Dungworth says the scheme follows similar work using decoy buses
00:27and has already helped reduce antisocial behaviour.
00:31Some passengers say they feel unsafe on parts of the network, particularly at night,
00:35but operator Nexus insists the system is safe, saying incidents are few and far between across the region's metro network.
