00:00The full fleet of new Tyne and Weir metro trains has now been delivered to the region.
00:06Operator Nexus said it received the final train from Swiss manufacturer Stadler on the 21st of
00:12February. The 46 train fleet is due to be fully in service by the summer, with more than half
00:17already carrying passengers. The £362 million programme has faced delays after earlier plans
00:25for all trains to run by the end of 2023. Nexus says the remaining units must complete
00:30rigorous testing before entering service. The last of the old metro trains will be withdrawn
00:35between late spring and early summer. Some will be recycled, with others retained for display
00:40and training.
