Nexus says Bank Holiday Monday upgrades went smoothly, installing new control systems to improve safety and detect faults faster. Further work is planned in early May.

00:06Services were suspended from 5 o'clock in the morning to allow installation of critical
00:11safety systems, including overhead power line controls.
00:15Trains resumed on schedule at 10 o'clock.
00:18The £8.8 million work is described by Nexus as the most significant upgrade to the Metro's
00:25control system since 2018, aimed at faster fault detection.
00:29The previous system, installed in the mid-90s, was nearing the end of its operational life.
00:36Further upgrade stages are planned for Sunday 3rd and Monday 4th of May.
00:41Passengers are advised to check timetables.
