00:03I'm Melissa Miller, I'm a senior producer at 2K, working on Duke Nukem Forever.
00:11I think that Duke has a lot going for it, that a lot of the current games, like, yeah, there's
00:17definitely been an evolution in the first person shooter genre since Duke 3D came out.
00:23But at the same time, like, a lot of where it's gone has been, you know, people and development teams
00:31who are trying to achieve a more mature tone, which is awesome.
00:35I worked on Bioshock 1 and 2, like, I get that, and I think that that's awesome that there are
00:41people out there trying to raise the quality level like that of just games in general.
00:49But there is something to be said for a game that's sole purpose is just absolutely to have fun.
00:57And it's not about, you know, trying to prove some kind of innovation, you know, to stand out from the
01:03crowd.
01:03It's just, no, this is just fun, and that's the end of it.
01:07And as well as having a character who is so unapologetic and balls out about the, you know, an un
01:15-PC, like, there's just something really, really compelling and attractive about that type of personality, in addition to one that
01:24kicks ass as much as Duke does.
01:27So that, you know, it's just this combination of, even though Duke is this character, you know, who in video
01:36games years is very old, he feels fresh and new because there's just nothing like that out right now.
01:43In addition to the gameplay, which has so much variation, when was the last time you played a first-person
01:49shooter that had puzzles, you know?
01:52And Duke doesn't just have puzzles. Duke has all, like, driving and machine guns and everything, and there's just so
01:59much about it in addition to the humor and the larger-than-life personality of Duke.
02:03Vegas is the perfect environment for that, because, you know, this is where big-name people, like, come and just,
02:12you know, live this life of luxury, and, you know, him, you know, basically leveraging his popularity for having saved
02:26the Earth into becoming a successful business man with multiple franchises.
02:31Like, that's pretty funny in and of itself. And, you know, he hears Duke, this, you know, he kicks ass,
02:39you know, and sent the aliens running and saved the Earth.
02:44But, yes, he's got Duke Burger. And, yes, he's got the Lady Killer Casino. And, like, that type of stuff
02:49is cool, and I think, like, Vegas is kind of the perfect environment for that.
02:55As well as, like, you know, basically having a casino where there's a museum dedicated to himself and, you know,
03:03has got all the gold statues, you know, naked women and everything.
03:07That could only happen in Vegas. And it's pretty cool, too, because it's like, you know, the world is a
03:14parody of our own, but at the same time, like, one of the things that makes it work is that
03:19Duke doesn't treat it as a parody, and it's like, you know, that's his world.
03:23And by playing Duke Nukem Forever, you are, you know, it's Duke's world, and we just play in it. And
03:30you're signing up for that. It was pretty funny.
03:38There were a lot of opportunities. You know, there's definitely opportunities for Duke to be driving himself at larger.
03:47But, like, the fact that he had, when he shrunk down, that they put him in some kind of, like,
03:52you know, toy RC car is just really cool.
03:56And it's set up really well, too, because when you play it in the demo, you find this controller, and
04:02you have to control a little RC truck to solve puzzles in order to progress.
04:06And then you're like, oh, that's cool. And then, like, a little while later, you're actually getting into a toy
04:11RC car and driving it.
04:12And you're like, ah. The arsenal of Duke 3D was really, really important to fans.
04:19And even playing in the demo today, you can see a lot of old fan favorites.
04:23You've got the pistol. You've got the ripper, the shotgun, personal favorite.
04:28And you've got the devastator. You also have some alien weapons that you can choose, like AT Captain's Laser, or
04:38the AT Laser, and so forth.
04:41But there's still a few more that are not in the demo that we think people will be really, really
04:48excited about and offer really cool gameplay opportunities.
04:51Pipe bombs, as well, trip lines. Pipe bombs are awesome.
04:55We're really excited about people having a chance to play around with those weapons.
04:59And the way that the game is balanced, like, you're obviously going to have weapons that you need when you
05:05need them.
05:05But because you can only carry two at a time, it gives you the chance to experience everything versus just
05:13like, oh, no, I'm going to take the shotgun and I'm going to carry it through for the entire game.
05:17You can do that. It is possible.
05:19I think still my favorite thing about the game is the peeing. I just, I thought it was so funny.
05:24I, like, I, and I just peed at every toilet I found when I first started playing.
05:29Get this big guy back into action.
