00:00and it sounds actually really good um better than all the other modelers to be honest i think two
00:05volume knobs would be better for me i don't really use the tone knob that much and when we fly
00:09all i
00:10need to take is the quad vortex and my laptop
00:39hi this is benji from lord of the lost we're here in chicago today and we're going to have a
00:42look
00:43a bit of our gear that we use when we play live so uh part of this is rental gear
00:48since we are from
00:49germany and obviously we can't bring everything over to america so this slightly varies from what
00:53we had at our headline don't believe them headline chains in europe um let's start with uh the main
01:00central guitar part of the sound bet you've seen this before quad cortex it's everywhere and for
01:05good reason um pi and i both use it so we both have the same um each device i have
01:12the expression
01:13pedal for a bit of wah wah or whammy stuff um i use it in hybrid mode so i've got
01:18my scenes down here
01:19which i can change like solos or lead or just rhythm and then i can add like a different effects
01:25which
01:25i want and i like the the flexibility it gives me um pi i think has it only in scenes
01:30so there's
01:30eight scenes for different tunings whatever what really is fantastic about this unit is that it
01:35can do the transposing things so like if i want to play a different tuning and we've only got a
01:41space for two guitars so we play drop d and drop a um but we also have songs which are
01:45on drop d
01:45i just use a different patch it's got transposing in it pitches it to drop c and it sounds actually
01:52really good um better than all the other modelers which i have heard uh from my taste anyway that
01:59it just sounds the cleanest when transposing to different tunings to be honest i don't specifically
02:04always choose a single amp that i know that is my go-to i know i'm a big dual rectifier
02:09fan but in
02:10this case actually was the uh the bogner ubershell actually i went with in the end i just tried out
02:16everything which i um which i thought could be interesting and that was the one just appealed
02:20to me the most i think pi uses the gojiro plugin from neural gsp which you nowadays can load onto
02:27the units and i think that's based on the 5150 but i may be mistaken um we don't really have
02:34a
02:35signature guitar sound so much um since we're so much synth focused and i've got all the 80 sounds
02:40and everything going on the guitars are more a layer on top but they're not the main focus of the
02:45music
02:46so um we've just got just got a general reverbs delays for the for leads and solos we've got some
02:53um modulation chorus-y flanger things we've got filters for the typical intros um that's actually
03:02pretty much it maybe some fuzz extras but it's not not nothing really unique where you'd say this
03:07is completely out of the box unusual design or something this is where the the quad cortex will
03:13come back in again so i also play keyboards life um many people would argue that keyboards in a metal
03:21band are kind of well they used to say gay i think that's not an appropriate term so what we
03:25have is
03:26two keyboards the second keyboardist has already set down his stuff so he's not visible at the moment
03:30but we have got two keyboards um sounds get run by a main stage so i've got a laptop sitting
03:35down
03:35here uh i can change my patches to synth pianos pads leads whatever we uh we need um just to
03:43to fill
03:44up the song and this is what i love about the quad cortex it's got so many routing options and
03:50in
03:50ins and outs so this is my audio interface for my laptop so i've got my guitar coming out of
03:57here i've
03:57also got my keyboards coming out of here which means we've got the plug box here everything is
04:01really nice and compact and when we fly like for example now to the u.s and play shows uh
04:08elsewhere
04:08all i need to take is the quad cortex and my laptop and all the sounds which i use are
04:14all with me i'm
04:15on board doesn't matter which controller i use it's all the same and that is just fantastic um backing
04:22vocals we all have audix mics um i've got the om5 the other guys have the om2 and chris are
04:27singer has an om6 i believe um super tight uh cardioid like hyper cardioid so it's really really
04:36clean signals don't get a lot of jump spill chris can go down into the barrier we don't have any
04:41issues with feedbacks so absolutely fantastic live vocals uh mics of live vocals so for guitars
04:48we all play a company called cyan it's a luthier from hamburg where we come from
04:53uh all hand-built custom guitars um this is my guitar for drop d tuning um so regular six string
05:02drop d tuning it has uh come simo duncan sd4 and sd1 i think believe is the combination
05:09um we've got strings by richter strings most many know them for their guitar straps which almost
05:15everyone use including us but they also do strings and they're actually really durable
05:19um i've very very rarely had them tear so that's um very convenient this would be 10 to 60
05:28i believe yes 10 to 60 should be it should be it pickup wise i like these two because they're
05:33just
05:33slightly more old school-y sound but not quite as modern as to say like i don't know the fishman
05:37fluence or something which lots of people are using nowadays um volume knob tone knob to be honest i think
05:44two volume knobs would be better for me i don't really use the tone knob that much but i have
05:48the coil split um to use them as single coils and this is what i really love about them they
05:52really
05:53sound as single coily as a humbucker can sound without it actually being a proper single coil and
05:59i'll dial it in a little bit every now and then in certain songs where it's more for the fun
06:04of it
06:05that especially for cleans i like the more glassy ringy uh single coil sound but most of the time it's
06:11just
06:11everything open bridge pickup and just all throttle distortion right here for my other guitar
06:21this is a bit different because this actually is a seven string uh i'm the only one who has a
06:26seven
06:26string i only place six string guitars um this is a uh oh crumbs ben knuckle super disto no sorry
06:36tone zone
06:36tone zone that's what i always keep forgetting and to be honest i've got no idea what this is because
06:40our luther he just put something in and if it sounds good it sounds good and that's what counts
06:47here two volumes um two separate uh core splits a nice kill switch which i always like because uh
06:54sometimes i prefer to have both open to have to be able to switch between pickups i know some would
06:59just turn down the one and use that as a as a kill switch but i prefer to have a
07:03separate knob
07:05um this is a um unique uh uh string gauge from the thinnest is an eight gauge and the thickest
07:14is a 70
07:15um but i like because this is dropped a tuning i like the really thick strings on the bottom
07:21i mean this is a 28 inch scale guitar so it is ready baritone um i still want the thick
07:26string so i can
07:27really chug into it and without it um pitching the note too much like if the strings are too thin
07:36but
07:37this is exactly what i want with the thin strings that i can go into bendings vibrato without having
07:42to really push it because i don't know my fingers are too too sensitive for that apparently
07:48uh yeah otherwise all guitars locking tuners uh cheap code for the backliners to know how to tune the
07:54guitars um all passive pickups because i don't want to mess with batteries during the show it's already
08:01nuisance enough with wireless i mean obviously wireless is is a must nowadays for stages after
08:06certain size but um yeah it's nice not having to deal with with even more batteries it's more
08:12sustainable as well so for picks we've got um these are these jazz xl shaped um customs from pick me
08:21custom one millimeter in strength um i just like the slightly smaller size just a bit more nimble um
08:28i could play with anything but this is just personal preference um we have uh in your monitoring for
08:36live i'm personally using just the very usual shaw 315. thank you for watching please check out
08:44the other videos if you like like for example for the drum uh rundown um we have our third part
