00:30and we were wanting to just have fun
00:31and that's what we did, we just gave them more tools
00:33to play with in the sandbox, more superpowers,
00:36more crazy over the top weapons.
00:37One of our earliest changes that we made to Saintro 4
00:40was to introduce the superpowers to the game.
00:42It just makes the gameplay totally different
00:44with being able to roam around the world,
00:46super leap, super sprint through the world,
00:47you have all these powers, but then what we started to think about
00:50is if I have all these amazing powers
00:51and I'm fighting against just the standard gang members
00:53like we usually add in all the previous Saintro games,
00:56it's going to be a very difficult challenge
00:58for us to try to balance the game as a result of that.
01:00You know, in Saintro the 3rd we took it up to 11,
01:03so in Saintro 4 they want to take it up to 13,
01:05and so we really can't just have regular gangs
01:07even if they're wearing Mexican wrestler masks,
01:09we've got to go even further.
01:10So we've got the aliens.
01:12Hello, humans.
01:15Having aliens in Saintro 4
01:16really allowed us to expand
01:18on these crazy weapons that we're known for,
01:20so if we didn't have aliens,
01:22we probably wouldn't be able to do, you know,
01:23black hole guns, super overpowered laser rifles,
01:27the inflato ray, plasma rocket launchers,
01:30none of that would really make sense
01:31without these aliens.
01:33Damn, I'm good!
01:34When designing the rectifier,
01:36one of our lead animators had the idea
01:38to put a tongue inside the tip of it.
01:41When it opens up there's a tongue inside
01:42and it's wiggling all around.
01:44So after I created that, he animated it
01:46and grossed himself out so bad
01:48that he requested that we remove
01:50the weapon from the game.
01:54we left it in.
01:58Every year, more and more games
02:00kind of come out in the open world genre.
02:03And I totally understand why.
02:04It's an amazing space to be in.
02:05It's so exciting to immerse.
02:06It allows the player to go and feel
02:07that they're a part of something bigger than themselves.
02:09The nice thing is that no matter how many people
02:11go and come into the open world genre,
02:14we always feel that Saint's Row
02:15stands apart as something different from the pack.
02:18There's no other game where you can go and change
02:20the gender, ethnicity, body shape
02:23and voice as completely as you can
02:25in Saint's Row.
02:26There's no other game where it says,
02:27listen, we've recorded the entire game seven times
02:29for you to go and experience with the voice that you want.
02:31Poverty is a problem.
02:33Apartheid is a problem.
02:34This? This is just a couple.
02:35Here's the latest approval poll.
02:37We lost 20 points, we can get them back.
02:38It celebrates the fact that it is a game,
02:41that it is just fun and bombastic
02:43and whimsical, which is great.
02:45I think it's great for everybody.
02:57We don't want the player to jump through our hoops.
02:59We want to jump through the player's hoops.
