00:04Hello and welcome to today's FM Friday Feature Blog for Football Manager 2014.
00:09This week's blog will focus on the many tech advances we've made for FM14,
00:13which should have a major impact on the different ways you can enjoy playing the game.
00:17Before I go into that though, we're pleased to announce that we've now set a release date for Football Manager
00:222014
00:23on PC, Mac and Linux of Thursday, October 31st.
00:28However, if you don't want to wait that long, you can pre-order the game from one of our participating
00:33retailers
00:33found at www.footballmanager.com and you'll receive access to a beta version of the game
00:40around two weeks prior to the release date.
00:42The beta version is a pre-release copy of the game that's close to the final release version.
00:47What's even better is that you can carry on the career you start in the beta when you get your
00:51full copy.
00:53We look forward to your feedback on the beta so that we can improve things right up to the game's
00:57release.
00:58So what tech advances have we put into Football Manager 2014?
01:02Well, firstly, we're releasing the game on Linux for the first time.
01:06This means you'll be able to play the game on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS or higher via Steam
01:12as long as your device has a keyboard and mouse.
01:15The Linux version will come in the same package as the PC and Mac version,
01:19whether bought as a DVD or digitally, and is fully cross-compatible with the PC and Mac
01:23so you can switch between machines at your leisure.
01:26This brings me on to another landmark for Football Manager,
01:29the ability to save your game online or, as it's known, the cloud.
01:34This means you'll be able to continue your career on any PC, Mac or Linux machine worldwide
01:39as long as they meet the minimum specs,
01:41and by simply logging into your Steam account, installing the game, and downloading your cloud save.
01:46This puts an end to having to wait until you're home to carry on your career.
01:50You can simply switch on, log in, download, and you're playing as long as you've saved it to Steam's cloud
01:56system.
01:56Another new feature included in FM14 is the integration of Steam Workshop.
02:01Steam Workshop allows fans to create their own content and share it with friends and other gamers,
02:06so it's perfectly suited to FM, as our game already allows fans to create this type of content.
02:11Steam Workshop now takes that to another level,
02:14so it's not only easier to create and share content,
02:17but fans will also be able to make completely unique FM experiences to share with the community.
02:22So what exactly will this allow fans to create and share?
02:25Firstly, there are options to customise the way your game looks,
02:29such as bespoke game skins and graphics.
02:31As well as how the game looks, you can also customise and share bespoke databases,
02:36which will include the ability to create and share additional leagues and nations,
02:41customise competitions, and for classic mode fans,
02:44there'll also be a challenge editor,
02:46so fans can create and share their own unique challenges.
02:49There should be a wealth to download and enjoy for free via Steam Workshop.
02:53There are lots of other things we've added to FM this year
02:56that will allow everyone to enjoy FM to its fullest.
02:59One of these is the new Zoom in, Zoom out feature, or ZZO,
03:03which allows people to scale the user interface
03:05so that on higher resolution displays, which are becoming more common,
03:09there is the option to not only increase the size of the window and have extra panels,
03:13which Adaptive Layout added a couple of years ago to the series,
03:16but also increase the size of the fonts and graphics within.
03:20The Zoom in, Zoom out feature is ideal for anyone with visual impairments
03:23and benefits anyone who wants to set the exact scale and size of the game's user interface to suit them.
03:30Also used alongside Steam's Big Picture mode,
03:32it's ideal for anyone who wants to play FM on a TV screen.
03:36This feature will also come into its own on the newer Macintosh machines
03:39with high-resolution Retina displays,
03:42and, on that subject, we've also included native full-screen mode
03:46for the Mac operating system in FM 2014.
03:49Sharing your Football Manager moments has also been taken to the next level,
03:53with improvements to the YouTube export feature
03:55now allowing fans to upload a custom highlights package
03:58showing goals from multiple camera angles.
04:01As well as these features, there's been widespread optimisation throughout the game,
04:05which means that everything should be faster and better performing,
04:08including faster searches and player staff filtering.
04:11Hopefully this gives you a bit more of an insight into the new tech additions for FM14.
04:16Some are really big advances for the series,
04:18some are smaller, but equally nice.
04:20All of them are designed to make your FM experience more engaging, fun and immersive.
04:25We hope you enjoy them.
04:26To find out what's new for FM14 on a daily basis,
04:29be sure to check both the FM Twitter feed,

04:33and my own, at MilesSI account,
