00:00Rated everyone 10 and up.
00:10Homeworld is unlike anything that's out there.
00:12It's a game about epic spaceship battles.
00:15The spectacle of these giant combat spaces,
00:19the scale of the combat,
00:22just the number of them out in the world,
00:24it's just epic.
00:28What's exciting about a project like this
00:31is the modern capacity for technology
00:33to produce the vision that was had.
00:57The draw of being a people lost from your homeland
01:02and journeying across the stars trying to find your true home,
01:08there's something so pure and simple about that journey.
01:14At the core of the story of Homeworld
01:16is this idea of this journey from working hard,
01:22being good, but being disenfranchised,
01:24being isolated,
01:27and then this struggle through this almost insurmountable adversity,
01:32and then this arrival at this place where you are righteously
01:37and profoundly accepted and included.
01:41And if you are someone like me,
01:45or I think like a lot of our fans,
01:46it was like a perfect parallel for the struggle
01:49that all of us were going through.
01:51And I think it's the reason it stuck with people.
01:57It's really of the video game industry.
02:01It's a real gamer's game.
02:07It was the game that worked.
02:10It was the game that lived up to its promise.
02:13It's kind of inspirational in a way,
02:15especially when you played as a kid
02:17and you saw this journey happen.
02:18It was unique for RTSs,
02:19and it still is unique for RTSs.
02:21You know, one of Gearbox's first franchises
02:23that we created was Brothers in Arms.
02:26And there was a mode if you paused the game,
02:28basically, it would go into a situational awareness view
02:31where the camera would come back
02:32and you could sweep around.
02:34So much of how we engineered that
02:37and how we controlled the camera,
02:39I think was directly inspired by the experiences I had
02:44playing Homeworld.
02:45I actually did not put that together until just now
02:49when you asked me that question.
02:52As a child, I loved the original one,
02:55just that combination of passion and power and war.
02:59The depth to what the combat displays is striking.
03:03It always stops me.
