Videointervista con Maciej Binkwoski per Dying Light: The Following.
Trascrizione
00:04Welcome back to AXS, I'm Nathan, I'm here with Matt Cech from Dying Light, developer Techland.
00:10The following is your expansion, which is coming out sometime early next year.
00:14Yes, February 9th.
00:15Oh, it's got an announcement now?
00:16Oh yes, we just announced it a couple of hours ago.
00:19And I'm very excited because hopefully we're coming over to play it early next year.
00:22And I was telling you earlier on today, kind of like in preparation, I've been hitting the original Dying Light
00:27and I've been trying to get my platinum trophy, so now I am really familiar with the game
00:31and I've got like actual questions to ask you.
00:33Alright.
00:34Like, so when we started Gamescom, you were telling us that guns, like gunplay is now like a big factor.
00:40And I'm used to like kind of scraping for bullets in bins.
00:42Does this mean that, you know, guns are going to be, there's going to be less scarcity attached to the
00:46guns?
00:46And have you changed the mechanics of the actual kind of aiming and firing?
00:49There's actually going to be more guns in the following, because this is something that the fans asked for.
00:55So they basically, it was like, on top of the list, it was like, we want more shooting.
01:00Of course.
01:00And we want more guns.
01:01Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:02So we're very happy to oblige.
01:05One of the new weapons that we've shown is the SMG.
01:08Mm-hmm.
01:10They, well, they're pretty badass.
01:12And also for people, they're still loud.
01:15Right.
01:15So there's still the trade-off.
01:17The danger, right, yeah, yeah.
01:19But, there's also something that we're introducing, which is the crossbow.
01:23Right.
01:23Which is deadly, it has big range, and it's silent.
01:27Okay, very nice.
01:28And are we, because as I said, like, I'm still breaking into the back of police vans to get all
01:33my bullets.
01:33Yeah, they should.
01:34Are they going to be easier to come by in the following?
01:37Yeah, yeah.
01:38Since we bring more firefights and more guns, yeah, it's going to be a little bit easier to get guns.
01:43It's still not like they're all over the place.
01:47They're growing on trees.
01:47But you still have to, you know, relate to scavenging, but yeah.
01:51Yeah.
01:51And whereabouts does, so now I've completed the story, because I was very near the end, and now I've finished.
01:55So where does the following kind of fit in?
01:57I mean, are we even still in Haran? Because those maps aren't built for buggies.
02:00Yeah, so basically we leave the quarantine, we go outside for the very first time, and it's a branching storyline.
02:08So it's a completely new story where Kyle Crane gets a track of people who are supposed to be immune
02:15to the virus.
02:16Okay.
02:16And not knowing if it's true or not, it's a very interesting thread to, you know, to chase and see
02:24what's going on.
02:26And for me, like the, are we going to get kind of a bigger sense of the outside world?
02:32And, you know, because in Haran, you know that the virus has come and it's messed up this one individual
02:38place,
02:38but you're not sure about how things are outside.
02:40And everything was kind of claustrophobic.
02:42Yeah.
02:43Are we going to get kind of, well, obviously things are going to be more open because the environments are
02:46bigger,
02:46but I mean, story-wise, do we get a sense of how this kind of infection has affected the outside
02:50world?
02:51Absolutely.
02:52Interesting.
02:52So, you know, you're going to dig into, you know, how did it happen? You know, where is it all
02:57going?
02:58I mean, I don't want to spoil too many things, but, you know, and the people that are there who
03:03know things,
03:04you know, they're not very eager to share their secrets with a stranger.
03:08Of course.
03:08So you have to work your way towards getting their trust to actually, you know, get them talking to you.
03:13And does that suggest to me, like, the same kind of, because I finished the main stories and then, you
03:19know,
03:19I spent another maybe week, like, clearing up the side quests because there was a lot of side quests.
03:23Yeah.
03:23And a lot of color of the world, you know, in those characters, is that similar to, is there going
03:28to be all that kind of stuff in the following?
03:29Oh yeah, absolutely. There's, there's a ton of stuff. If you only want to complete the stories, like 10 plus
03:34hours, but there's like a lot of, a lot of stuff.
03:37We know that people love the side quests, so.
03:39Yeah, yeah.
03:40They are there, there are new challenges, new areas to visit, new activities, a lot of stuff.
03:45And in terms of the way that, so there's vehicles for the first time, so obviously we're expecting, you know,
03:51bigger maps and a kind of different design of maps.
03:53But for me, the thing I really loved about Dying Light was the movement and the exploration.
03:58How do you, you know, translate that to now, can you do that stuff but basically be in a car?
04:03Like, what's going on?
04:04So, I would say the car is an addition.
04:07Right.
04:07Rather than substitute, so there's still a lot of areas that require you to use parkour.
04:12You know, parkour is a pillar of our game, so we're not, it's not going anywhere, it's there.
04:17Wicked.
04:18But the thing is, the countryside that action takes place in is pretty vast.
04:22So, just going from point A to point B, it will take you a lot of time and it's very
04:27dangerous.
04:28So you would probably die if you would just go on foot.
04:30Right, okay.
04:30So that's why you need the buggy.
04:32You know, it's not just for the traversal, it's a tool to survive.
04:37Yeah.
04:37And a pretty cool weapon, you know, with all the modifications that you can put on it.
04:41Yes.
04:41It's a weapon and it's a tool to survive.
04:44And that is, that's what I wanted to ask you about.
04:46Obviously, anyone who's played Dying Light is going to have modified their own weapons.
04:49And you get up the skill tree, then every time you make the weapon it gets stronger.
04:53I mean, how modifiable are the, can I put guns on my car?
04:56You know, how modifiable are they?
04:58And how deadly can I make it?
05:00Alright, so you can make, alright, so first thing is just visuals.
05:04So you can have different paint jobs, you can have different liveries, stuff like that.
05:08The cool part starts when you start upgrading it.
05:11So you can, you know, have better handling, go with faster, better acceleration, stuff like that.
05:16Sweet.
05:16And then, you have a separate driver skill tree.
05:20Okay.
05:20You know, you have to get driver points, which you get for, you know, driving your vehicle, killing zombies with
05:25a destroying environment, jumping off ramps, stuff like that.
05:28And does that sit along the other skill trees that were in the original game?
05:31Yeah, yeah, there's another skill tree right next to them.
05:35And there you unlock special upgrades for your car, like a battery ramp, or an electric cage, or a flamethrower.
05:42Right, okay, now we're talking.
05:44That sounds amazing.
05:44And on top of that, you know, we love co-ops, so you know, you can, two people can get
05:49into one buggy.
05:50So one of them is driving, the other guy is shotgun.
05:53Okay.
05:54That's what, yeah, yeah, yeah.
05:55That sounds amazing.
05:56And, I mean, I kind of, since I went back to Dying Light and I remembered our conversations there,
06:00whether you had with Holly at Gamescom.
06:02I've just been thinking about, like, going to an area like the bridge, you know, that's just packed with zombies,
06:06and just driving through it.
06:08You know, that's like keeping me awake at night.
06:09I want to do it so much.
06:09All right, so now we have fields of zombies, literally.
06:13That sounds amazing.
06:14That sounds really good.
06:15Is there anything I haven't asked about that you'd like to mention?
06:18Like, we don't want to go too deep into the story, but is there anything else that you guys have
06:21kind of added to this or brought to this?
06:22Well, actually, what we do is we also are releasing an enhanced edition for Dying Light.
06:28Okay.
06:29So, and it's not just, you know, the collection of all the, you know, all the DLCs that we have
06:35in our game.
06:36It's also, the reason we call it an enhanced edition is that there's a lot of stuff that we add.
06:42So, first, like, we fixed a lot of stuff.
06:44We improved our AI.
06:46Right.
06:47We improved our graphics.
06:49We introduced new player animations.
06:50So, as you evolve through stuff, there's going to be new animations played.
06:53The AI has new behaviors.
06:56There's all the content updates.
06:59Of course, the following expansion is part of the enhanced edition.
07:03Yeah.
07:03But here's where the cool part comes.
07:04We know that people play Dying Light for hundreds of hours, which is really surprising even for us.
07:11Yeah.
07:11And it's really cool.
07:12So, we want to have some kind of an end game content, like stuff that, you know, to keep people
07:17playing.
07:18Sure.
07:18So, here's what we do.
07:19When you max out your character, you're going to get access to so-called legendary levels.
07:25Okay.
07:25There are 250 of them.
07:28Okay.
07:29When you level up, you get new ways of developing a new character.
07:33It can be even more badass.
07:35There are about 100 new looks for their weapons.
07:38So, about 100 new weapons there.
07:40There are new player outfits.
07:41There are player emblems that you can show off with other people.
07:45Okay.
07:45On top of that, we're adding bounties.
07:48There's more.
07:49There's more.
07:49So, bounties are something that, you know, we know people play a lot.
07:52They do different stuff.
07:53So, we're introducing three types of bounties.
07:55The basic ones are just simple things that you can finish, like whatever you do, you know, just in the
08:00meantime.
08:01Like, I don't know, cut off 20 arms or 20 legs, stuff like that.
08:05Sure.
08:05Just be precise and you'll do it.
08:07Then we have dailies.
08:09Oh, man.
08:09So, every day, from the moment we launch, every single day, there's going to be a challenge that's going to
08:14push you how you think and how you play the game.
08:16So, for example, the game might ask you, climb the biggest, the highest bridge in the game, then jump from
08:24it and, you know, without dying.
08:26Right.
08:26And without using certain supports.
08:28Or it's going to ask you, drown a volatile, you know, the creature from the night.
08:32Yeah, yeah, yeah.
08:33So, we hope that people are going to be like, how the hell do I even do that?
08:36You know, we're looking forward to community, trying to get together, solving those puzzles.
08:40That is good.
08:41And then, we're going to have community events.
08:43We're going to last for like a week or two and there's going to be like a single goal for
08:48the whole community that they can work towards.
08:50And if they complete it.
08:51Oh, okay.
08:52And then, and that's the last thing we're adding.
08:54On top of that, we're also having a new difficulty level.
08:58Right.
08:58Because, you know, people are badass now, they have cool weapons, they have skills.
09:03Yeah, yeah, yeah.
09:03So, we're prepared a new challenge.
09:05And it's not only about creatures just getting stronger and hitting you harder.
09:10We're actually changing the rules of the game.
09:11Okay.
09:12So, here it is.
09:14Among other little changes, two are really important.
09:17So, one is now every action that you do is going to cost your stamina.
09:23Okay.
09:23So, it used to be like, you know, you ran into a group of zombies, you ram one guy, you
09:26kick the other one,
09:27you cut in half the second one, you fall from him, you land on the car, you stomp him, and
09:32then you just keep that mayhem going.
09:34Sure, yeah.
09:34On that difficulty, you ram the first guy, you jump on the car, you stomp the second guy, and you're
09:40done.
09:41Like, you're out.
09:41Oh, right.
09:42You're out.
09:43Okay.
09:43So, it's going to change the way how you approach each...
09:46Be super efficient when you're in the way that you murder yourself.
09:48Yeah, you have to think like, am I going to be able even to handle that?
09:51So, that's number one.
09:52And here's number two.
09:53When you play the Nightmare difficulty, that's the most efficient way to get your legendary points out.
09:58Okay.
09:59But there's a catch.
10:00Of course.
10:01If you die, you lose your points.
10:04All of your points?
10:05Yeah.
10:05I mean, okay, if you got to like level 10...
10:08Yeah, okay.
10:08It's going to stay there.
10:10Yeah, yeah, yeah.
10:10But if you were like 99% to level 11, and you die...
10:14That's out.
10:15Okay.
10:15It's a very high risk, high reward situation.
10:19So, I would say, bring your friends.
10:21Yeah, yeah, yeah.
10:21Because it's not only, you know, your friends can help you.
10:23When you're down, they can still revive you.
10:25Yeah, of course.
10:26And in that environment, when you're losing your points, it's priceless.
10:29Yeah, you want to be revived.
10:30And then on top of that, we want to encourage players to play in co-ops.
10:33So, each player adds 10% bonus to your experience points.
10:38So, if you want to level up faster, bring your friends.
10:40Oh, man.
10:40That's a lot of things.
10:41That is a lot of things.
10:42And, you know, like, I was thinking about my perfectionist urge.
10:47You know, I won 100% this game, and you've basically made it so I'm never going to be able
10:50to.
10:50So, thank you, but also not thank you.
10:53That's amazing.
10:54Thank you for having me.
10:54Hopefully, in the new year, we're going to be playing the following with you guys.
10:57Thank you so much for talking to us.
10:59You guys stay tuned to the channel.
11:00We've got loads more coming up.
