00:06Yeah, and I have finally caught up with Dying Light.
00:09Now Nathan got hands on and actually played really well,
00:12but I have got a whole ton of questions to ask you.
00:15Alright.
00:15Now to start with, when I caught up with you this time last year
00:18we saw the single player stuff.
00:19Today is co-op, so tell us a little bit about co-op.
00:22Right, so we have up to four player's co-op,
00:25and you can play through the story mode,
00:27like right from the start after you finish your tutorial level.
00:32You can start playing with your friends,
00:33up to four of them, and through the whole game
00:36up till the end four players co-op but even when you play co-op you know it's
00:43your friends and stuff we like to spice things up a little bit so that's what we
00:49do like when we play the game it's like hey you know what I dare that you won't
00:53be able to hit that or I bet you can you know I can get there faster than you it
00:59was just happening so we said like why don't we just put it in a game so we
01:04track your progress and every once in a while the game will offer you a
01:08challenge a competitive challenge like that so like who's gonna kill more
01:11zombies in another minute or who can get on top of the tower fast
01:15the fastest so and whoever wins gets like extra experience points or a special
01:20weapon or stuff like that it's very cool actually when Nathan was playing he sort of
01:24came up pressed X and then him and the guy was playing with all of a sudden the
01:27head-to-head on a challenge playing the game it was really cool yeah it was
01:30amazing to see people like they start the demo and they're like okay so we're
01:34gonna play co-op so there are zombies and they're bad so we got to help each
01:37other out and they kind of do like they you know they look out for each other
01:41and suddenly there's like challenges like screw you man I'm taking this reward
01:44so is this a drop-in drop-out cop or is it like you've got to form the lobby you've
01:48got to go in no it's absolutely seamless so you're just playing your game you're
01:52gonna see it like a little prom saying like hey there's a dude on a similar
01:56progress you want to join single click of a button bam that's it your friends can do
02:00the same thing like you just go online and there's like hey so Holly's online
02:04you want to join bam that's it and the same of course goes also for the pvp
02:09mode that we also show the first time okay the night hunter is something your
02:14friend could do to you basically there's not just the four of you having a great
02:17little time together one of you can be horrible basically oh yeah and that
02:21feels just so good there's nothing better than just getting to your friends
02:24game and mess it isn't it it's really good but tell us how does this work it's
02:29very asymmetrical co-op it is about dropping in and really screwing up the
02:33game these guys on their way back to a safe house when the hunter kind of dropped
02:36in well it it can happen pretty much any time so every we have a dynamic day and
02:41night cycle so whenever the night comes one of the scenarios that you might
02:45encounter is another player joining the game but he's not a friend he's this super
02:51infected creature anyway it works is you get number of response from from the
02:58moment the match starts it's completely again it's completely seamless so you're
03:02just playing your your game and it and it happens you get number of response if he
03:07can kill you number of times game over yeah and it's not like each one of you has
03:12number of reasons you share them yeah so we kind of push you towards really
03:17cooperating and and and the super in fact is like he's a glass cannon so if he can make
03:24you like that you guys go separate yeah you're gonna be an easy target so really got to stay close
03:31together on the other hand he has an unlimited response so it's not about killing him there
03:39are special hives on the map three of them and if you want to win the match you have to
03:45destroy those
03:46yeah and then actually nathan managed to do it i was very impressed with him he did very well
03:50now taking it back some of the gameplay mechanics um we saw weapon damage so when nathan was playing
03:55the weapon eventually kind of broke do you want to talk about how that's going to work and how you
03:58can
03:59carry on if your weapons break um well you know we want dying light to be an action survival game
04:03so
04:04that means limited resources that means your weapons degrade uh so you have to take you know uh sorry
04:10is that way correct way to say to take care of take care of yes thank you thank you take
04:16care of
04:16them um that means you need to find like little metal pieces and try to put them together when they
04:21break um in the end they'll they'll break completely so you'll have to find something else but that
04:27also means that you have to make choices like am i ready for for this like should i really fight
04:33those guys maybe avoiding them will be a better choice because my weapon is kind of kind of crap
04:40now and i might need it like in this i might end up in something critical that i really might
04:45need it
04:45so perhaps not this time around so we really want player to have this kind of choices okay talking about
04:52breaking things we also broke some bones as well it's like went into like x-ray mode and saw some
04:56breaking bones what what impact is that having other than looking cool well if you break a zombie leg
05:03he's not going to be able to walk you really break it and he's going to keep crawling for you
05:08if you
05:08cut it off that's the same thing uh if you break the arm he won't be he won't be able
05:12to attack you
05:13and so on and so on it's all sounding very exciting and finally uh the free running plays a massive
05:18part
05:18in this so what are you guys doing to really nail that because that is like that beautiful key mechanic
05:23yeah and it's not only that you know we also hope that this will kind of change the the fps
05:28genre
05:28you know just like i i i think i said it like a million times now but i'm gonna say
05:34it again
05:34you know wolfenstein no jumping many years later jumping like and if you don't have jumping in your
05:40game your game sucks and i i see people playing the game we have players playing it for for hours
05:47and then they go back to a regular fps game and they're like that kind of feels weird like i
05:53can't
05:54over a wall or i can't climb the fence it's like weird so i would hope that we can establish
06:00like
06:00a next step in the evolution of fps games i know it's a bold statement but i believe it
06:04uh so you know in a couple of years you might be expecting like this level of freedom yeah it's
06:09going
06:09to be basic i'd like that i have no complaints with that because it really does change the level
06:14like all of a sudden you've got maps are open vertically like it changes a lot
06:19it's going to be incredible thank you so much for your time it's been great to finally catch up with
