00:30I'm Seth Meyers. It's a late night.
00:31We hope you're doing well.
00:32And now, if you don't mind, we're going to get to the news.
00:34During the Kennedy Center board meeting today at the White House,
00:37President Trump said that a previous president told him
00:40he wished he had attacked Iran.
00:43No, not Biden. The guy before him.
00:49During the same meeting, President Trump asked House Speaker Mike Johnson
00:52to discuss a Republican congressman's health issues.
00:55And, well, just watch this.
00:57Congressman Neal Dunn of Florida had had some real health challenges,
01:01and it was very serious and had had a pretty grim diagnosis.
01:05And I mentioned it to the president, and I said,
01:07Congressman Dunn is a real champion and a patriot
01:09because he's still coming to work.
01:11And if others got this diagnosis, they would be apt to go home and retire.
01:14What was the diagnosis?
01:15It was, I mean, I think it was a terminal diagnosis.
01:18He would be dead by June.
01:20Okay, that went in public, but yeah, okay.
01:31Spoiler alert.
01:33Oh, my God, I had to watch that through my fingers,
01:35the way I watched weapons in the theater.
01:38I never thought I would feel bad for Mike Johnson.
01:40And I was right. I still don't.
01:42But look at his face.
01:44He looks like a dad in a grocery store whose kid just yelled,
01:47Daddy, what's wrong with that man's face?
01:52In a new interview, President Trump said that he's working to secure,
01:56excuse me, the Strait of Hormuz with numerous countries,
01:59but would not name any of them.
02:00Wouldn't or couldn't?
02:03Uh, Wakanda, they're in.
02:07In a new interview yesterday with the Financial Times,
02:10President Trump said he wants NATO countries to send warships
02:14to help secure the Strait of Hormuz.
02:16Oh, now you want NATO's help?
02:18I can't believe how quickly we went from
02:19we have the greatest military in the history of the world
02:22to help us, Portugal.
02:25You're our only hope.
02:28President Trump also said the war with Iran will end,
02:31quote,
02:32when I feel it in my bones.
02:33Sounds crazy, but remember,
02:35a feeling in his bones is what got him out of Vietnam.
02:43Deep cut.
02:44Deep cut.
02:46In a new interview,
02:47President Trump confirmed reports
02:48that he purchased his dress shoes
02:50for members of his cabinet,
02:51as opposed to what he should be buying them, shirts.
02:56President Trump was set to meet today
02:58with the U.S. ambassador to Japan,
03:01George Glass.
03:02George Glass?
03:03So, we definitely don't have an ambassador to Japan.
03:07No, sure we do.
03:08He was confirmed by Richard Dorhandel.
03:12In a post last week on True Social,
03:15President Trump thanked TSA agents
03:16for continuing to work without pay
03:18during the Department of Homeland Security shutdown
03:21and added, quote,
03:22I promise that I will never forget you.
03:24Don't buy it, said Tiffany.
03:30Yesterday was the United Airlines
03:32New York City half marathon.
03:33It's an annual event where they announce
03:35a gate change at LaGuardia
03:36five minutes before boarding.
03:41And finally,
03:42how far away is our gate?
03:4413.1 miles.
03:46I don't think we're going to make it.
03:49And finally,
03:50the Los Angeles subway system
03:52recently unveiled
03:53the most unusual items
03:54from its lost and found,
03:55including a case filled with VHS tapes.
03:58I forgot those even existed,
04:00said residents about L.A.'s subway trains.
04:03And that was the monologue, everybody!
04:06We have a fantastic show every night.
04:09He's one of our favorites.
04:11You know him from the Harry Potter franchise,
04:12Miracle Workers and Weird the Al Yankovic Story.
04:16See him on Broadway through May 24th,
04:19where he's starring in
04:20Every Brilliant Thing at the Hudson Theater.
04:22He also stars in
04:23The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins,
04:25which airs Mondays on NBC and streams
04:27the next day on Peacock.
04:28Daniel Radcliffe is back on the show, everybody!
04:32And you know her from shows such as
04:35A Teacher and House of Cards,
04:37as well as films like
04:39Friendship and The Martian.
04:40She's starring in Imperfect Women,
04:42which premieres this Wednesday,
04:44March 18th, on Apple TV.
04:46Kate Mara will also be joining us!
04:49It's a great show, great guest.
04:50But before we get to all that,
04:52Donald Trump is now demanding
04:54that other countries help him take control
04:56of the Strait of Hormuz
04:58because of the oil crisis
05:00sparked by his war in Iran.
05:02For more on this,
05:02it's time for A Closer Look.
05:07Trump has spent virtually his entire time in office
05:10attacking or alienating our closest allies.
05:12Remember, it wasn't that long ago
05:14that he was threatening to go to war with Europe
05:16over Greenland.
05:17Greenland, basically,
05:19their defense is two dog sleds.
05:21Do you know that?
05:21Do you know what their defense is?
05:23Two dog sleds.
05:24Do you know what Denmark did recently
05:26to boost up security in Greenland?
05:29They added one more dog sled.
05:32It's true.
05:33They thought that was a great move.
05:36Who are you, Rodney Dangerfield?
05:39Is this the Friars Club roast of Greenland?
05:43Also, it doesn't make you sound tough
05:44to slam Greenland,
05:46an island with a small military.
05:48You're like a wrestler bragging
05:49about what you're about to do
05:50to an 85-year-old woman.
05:52Listen up, Nana Jean.
05:54When you step in that ring with me,
05:55you're going to be in a world of pain
05:57because you've got old knees.
06:00But Trump preserved most of his venom for NATO,
06:02which he's repeatedly insulted
06:04and threatened to abandon.
06:05We don't really need NATO in its current form.
06:08NATO is obsolete.
06:09We've been ripped off at the NATO level.
06:13We've been ripped off
06:14like no country has ever been ripped off.
06:18I'm talking about NATO
06:19and how the United States
06:20is getting ripped off with an obsolete NATO.
06:23The United States is treated
06:25very unfairly by NATO.
06:27We're paying for 80% of NATO.
06:29Now, I can only tell you one thing.
06:31It helps them a hell of a lot more
06:33than it helps us.
06:34NATO is ripping us off.
06:36I'm right about NATO.
06:37We have NATO,
06:38and we're giving countries a free ride.
06:40We are really...
06:42NATO is obsolete.
06:43It's old.
06:44It's fat.
06:45It's sloppy.
06:46If I were Trump's therapist,
06:48this is the part where I'd say,
06:49tell me more about NATO.
06:52It's old.
06:53It's fat.
06:53It's sloppy.
06:54It's marriage.
06:56It's father never loved it.
06:59It went bankrupt six times.
07:01It tried to sell steaks
07:03in an electronic store.
07:06NATO has a f***ing up hand.
07:09So Trump repeatedly insulted
07:11America's closest allies,
07:13and especially NATO,
07:14which he said was obsolete.
07:15And that's because Trump is actually
07:17a geopolitical mastermind.
07:19He knew that we would never need
07:21NATO's help ever again.
07:23And he would certainly never find himself
07:25in a position where he had to publicly beg NATO
07:28to intervene in a conflict he started.
07:30And yes, I'm doing that thing
07:32where I'm being super sarcastic
07:33before showing a clip package
07:35that proves the opposite.
07:36As the wall with Iran
07:37stretches into its third week,
07:40President Trump now calling on world leaders
07:41to help keep the state of Hormuz open.
07:44Trump telling the Financial Times,
07:46quote,
07:46if there's no response
07:47or if it's a negative response,
07:49I think it will be very bad
07:51for the future of NATO.
07:53You call them obsolete, sloppy, and fat,
07:55and now you want their help?
07:57It's like breaking up with someone
07:58and then immediately asking them
08:00for help moving.
08:01I know I called you obsolete and sloppy,
08:04but I didn't say you were bad at carrying things.
08:06Now, hop to it, fatso.
08:08I got a date tonight.
08:10Okay, but let's hear the response from NATO.
08:12I'm sure they put aside their hurt feelings
08:14and listened to the president's sensible request.
08:16So far, no countries, including U.S. allies,
08:19such as Germany and the United Kingdom,
08:21are agreeing to help.
08:22So far, reactions to the president's request
08:24has been a resounding no.
08:26Now, in fairness, it wasn't a no from every country.
08:28In Germany, they said,
08:29our answer is five plus four.
08:31And Trump said, what?
08:32And Germany said, five plus four.
08:34That is our answer.
08:35Do the math.
08:36And Trump said, okay, let's see, five plus four.
08:38So your answer is nine?
08:40And then the Germans just laughed
08:43and laughed and laughed.
08:46Or at least I think they did.
08:47They're German, but it's hard to tell
08:49when they're laughing, you know,
08:50because no sound comes out.
08:56Seriously, you mean to tell me your genius plan
08:58of repeatedly insulting them for 10 straight years
09:01and then begging them to help you out of a jam
09:04you got yourself into didn't work?
09:06But again, this is just how Donald Trump does friendship.
09:09It's not, I got your back, you got mine.
09:11It's, you get my back, and while you're there,
09:12can you give me a neck rub?
09:15Now, NATO countries have made the very reasonable observation
09:18that this is not a war they started.
09:20It's not on or near their territory,
09:22and it's not within the scope of their mission.
09:24Trump then tried to insist that actually
09:26they're the ones who need the oil,
09:27while inadvertently revealing that maybe,
09:30maybe this entire debacle was completely unnecessary.
09:33I'm demanding that these countries come in
09:35and protect their own territory
09:37because it is their territory.
09:39It's the place from which they get their energy.
09:44And they should come, and they should help us protect it.
09:48You could make the case that maybe we shouldn't be there at all
09:52because we don't need it.
09:53We have a lot of oil.
09:54Man, it's a shame no one made that case before we went.
09:58I mean, there are so many cases to make here.
10:00You can make the case that we shouldn't be there at all.
10:02You can make the case that this was an unnecessary
10:04and an unprovoked war of choice.
10:06You can make the case that this reckless and illegal war
10:08would destabilize the region.
10:09You can make the case that Trump lied to his supporters
10:11by promising no new wars
10:13and then launched another disastrous open-ended war.
10:15I mean, at this point, you could probably make the case
10:17that this is going so badly
10:18because Trump mixed up the plans for war with Iran
10:21and war with Greenland.
10:24They blocked the Strait of Hormuz,
10:25but they only have two dog sleds.
10:28Oh, you're right, I did switch them up.
10:31Oh, oh.
10:35But if you're going to ask other countries
10:37to help with the war we started,
10:39can you at least give them an idea
10:40of when that war might end?
10:42When are you going to know when it's over?
10:44When I feel it.
10:46Okay.
10:46I feel it in my bones.
10:47I wouldn't trust your bones to feel anything, buddy.
10:50Your jello bones are barely capable
10:53of keeping you upright for an entire speech.
10:56You spent the entire State of the Union
10:58clutching the podium like Jack
10:59clutching that piece of wood
11:00at the end of the Titanic.
11:03Seriously, are you caught in a riptide or something?
11:05Why are you white-knuckling the podium
11:07like my grandma on a roller coaster?
11:11Now, Trump has been furious about reporting
11:13by CNN and other outlets
11:14that his administration didn't plan
11:16for Iran closing the Strait of Hormuz,
11:19which everyone has known for years they might do.
11:22I mean, even I knew that,
11:23and I don't think I can find the Strait of Hormuz on a map.
11:26I mean, the only Straits I know
11:27are the Strait of Hormuz, the Strait of Gibraltar,
11:29and Queer Eye for the straight guy.
11:32But today, Trump insisted he definitely knew
11:35Iran would retaliate by closing the Strait.
11:38I knew about the Strait,
11:41that it would be a weapon,
11:43which I predicted a long time ago.
11:45I predicted all of this stuff.
11:46You guys were very generous in that.
11:48I predicted all of it.
11:49I predicted Osama bin Laden
11:51would knock out the World Trade Center.
11:54I made that prediction a year before he did it.
11:56I said, you better get him.
11:57He's a bad guy.
11:58I watched him be interviewed one time,
12:02and I said, that's a bad guy.
12:03You better get him.
12:04One year before exactly,
12:06I wrote it in a book.
12:06All right, first of all, you didn't write anything
12:08because there's no way you wrote those books yourself.
12:11I'm guessing you write books
12:13the way a cat plays the keyboard.
12:15Think that cat's a musical savant?
12:17Someone's controlling those arms.
12:18Second, fact-checkers have repeatedly pointed out
12:21this claim is not true, and even if it was,
12:23you think it makes you a genius
12:24because in the year 2000,
12:25you knew Osama bin Laden was a bad guy?
12:27Everyone knew that.
12:28What else did you predict in the year 2000?
12:30I was ahead of everything.
12:32I was the first guy to get frosted tips.
12:36But as usual, Trump tried to have it both ways
12:38by insisting he knew the strait would be a problem
12:41and also that it's not a problem at all
12:43because we don't need it.
12:45We don't need oil.
12:46We have all the oil we need for ourselves.
12:48It's one of the great assets that we have.
12:50We have double, more than double,
12:52what anybody else, in terms of oil production,
12:57we're at more than double any other country.
12:59So we don't need it, but we did it.
13:01It's almost, you could say we did it out of habit,
13:05which is not a good thing to do.
13:06Yeah, I agree.
13:09That's not a good thing to do.
13:11Is Trump criticizing his own war?
13:13What's he going to do next?
13:14Show up to a press conference in a shirt that says,
13:16No Kings?
13:18And what do you mean?
13:20What do you mean we did it out of habit?
13:23That's not how you go to war.
13:25That's how you hook up with a toxic ex.
13:27I know.
13:28I shouldn't have gone to Mike's place.
13:30I did it out of habit.
13:31And also, he's so sloppy and obsolete.
13:34This is Trump's presidency in a nutshell.
13:36He spent years being an obnoxious bully
13:38who insults friends, pushes away allies,
13:40and now that he's in a jam he got himself into,
13:43he expects everyone else to rush in and help him out.
13:46You know what NATO should do just to troll him?
13:49They should say, Okay, we will help,
13:51and then send him two dog sleds.
13:53That's been a closer look.
13:59We'll be right back with Daniel Radcliffe, everybody.
14:07For more of Seth's closer looks,
14:09be sure to subscribe to Late Night on YouTube.
14:21Our first guest tonight is a Tony-winning Emmy-nominated actor
14:25you know from the Harry Potter franchise, Miracle Workers,
14:28as well as Merrily.
14:29We roll along on Broadway.
14:31He's back on Broadway through May 24th,
14:33starring in Every Brilliant Thing at the Hudson Theater,
14:35and also starring in The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins,
14:38which airs Mondays on NBC and streams the next day on Peacock.
14:42Please welcome back to the show
14:42our very good friend Daniel Radcliffe, everybody.
14:58Welcome back!
14:59Thank you so much.
14:59Thank you for having me again.
15:00It's very exciting to have you here.
15:05It's very exciting to have you back on Broadway,
15:07the same theater you did Merrily.
15:09Yes, yes, very nice to be back.
15:10Are you, sometimes I will go to a theater
15:12where I've seen a different play,
15:13and I cannot believe how different it looks.
15:15Yes.
15:15Even as now a Broadway vet,
15:17are you also surprised when you walk in
15:18and see what they've done with the same space?
15:20Particularly for this show,
15:21we have really changed the space entirely.
15:24We've kind of,
15:24the stage has steps now that go into the audience
15:26because there's a lot of,
15:27as we will talk about,
15:28there's a lot of audience interaction in this show,
15:30and the audience is also on stage with me,
15:32so there's sort of three sides,
15:33so it's kind of in the round.
15:34So we've done a lot to it,
15:35but the Hudson is also,
15:36for anyone who has been,
15:38it's a beautiful theater.
15:39Like, it's a really great,
15:40so I'm very, very happy and lucky to be back there.
15:42And it's a,
15:43you mentioned the audience participation.
15:45This is a show where,
15:46basically, if you show up,
15:47if you buy a ticket for this show,
15:49there,
15:49you might be actually speaking in the show.
15:51There is a chance, yes.
15:52So there's like,
15:54there's two sort of grades of audience participation.
15:56There's a sort of low impact,
15:58low pressure,
15:58the one where I give you a card
15:59which has a number and a thing on it,
16:01and I say the number in the show,
16:02and you shout the thing back at me.
16:04And then there are five people
16:05who will be playing parts in the show that night
16:08when they come to see it.
16:09They don't know that when they walk in,
16:11and I kind of,
16:12and I,
16:12but I,
16:13so half an hour before the show,
16:15I start the show in the audience
16:16before the show begins every night,
16:18and I'm kind of chatting to you as you come in
16:19and trying to figure out
16:20who is going to play which parts.
16:22I think I might have roped Seth
16:23into playing a part when he comes to the show.
16:25So like,
16:26it's a,
16:26you know,
16:27it's a very unique thing.
16:29Do you have like a plan?
16:31Are you looking for something
16:32in an audience member
16:33that makes you think
16:34they'll be good for this
16:34or they'll be good for that?
16:35Not particularly.
16:37I mean,
16:37it really is just,
16:38you go on kind of vibes
16:39and connection
16:41and hope,
16:41and,
16:42and,
16:42you know,
16:43we've been pretty fortunate so far.
16:44We have not had anybody
16:45get up and do anything like crazy.
16:47So you're kind of trying
16:48to look for that
16:49as a bit of a radar.
16:51But like,
16:51generally speaking,
16:52would you say like,
16:53if someone's too eager,
16:55you tend to like,
16:56if they're...
16:56Yeah,
16:56I mean,
16:57I have had at least one
16:58like slightly,
16:59very nice man,
17:01but like a little bit drunk,
17:02maybe be like,
17:02hey,
17:02use my wife.
17:03Like,
17:04just get her up there.
17:05And I'm like,
17:05and there's,
17:06and a lot of people want me
17:07to humiliate their relatives.
17:08They're like,
17:09hey,
17:09here's my dad,
17:09embarrass him.
17:10I'm like,
17:10that's really not the point
17:12of the show.
17:12It's not the feel.
17:13It's like,
17:13we want everyone
17:14to have like a nice time
17:15when they're up.
17:15You also,
17:16there's a thing
17:16where critics come to a show
17:17and they review a show
17:18and they're also in the audience.
17:20And there was a very positive
17:22review of the show
17:23in Vulture,
17:24literally the Sarah Holdren road.
17:26Daniel Radcliffe
17:27and I are married now.
17:28Yes.
17:29We,
17:29we,
17:30I did get married
17:31to Sarah Holdren on stage.
17:32But you did not know
17:33that this was a critic.
17:34I was informed
17:35moments after I finished
17:36the performance
17:37that I had picked
17:37a major critic
17:38to play my love interest
17:39that night.
17:40And then I immediately
17:41started kind of
17:42backtracking in my mind
17:43like,
17:43well,
17:43she seemed to be laughing.
17:44She seemed to be having
17:45a good time.
17:45I guess she was,
17:46I guess it was going well.
17:47So yeah,
17:48but fortunately she,
17:49thank God she liked the show.
17:52And yeah,
17:52it's,
17:52it's been,
17:53it's wonderful.
17:54Like the great thing
17:54about the show
17:55is that I think people worry
17:57that when we get them
17:58up on stage
17:58that they have to be like
17:59super smart,
18:00super funny
18:01or super whatever.
18:02And,
18:02and if you are those things,
18:03then that's great
18:04and that will be cool.
18:04But really the only thing
18:06the show needs to succeed
18:07is kindness.
18:08And I think I'm pretty good
18:09at spotting that
18:10in people now,
18:11particularly if you get like,
18:12you got a family
18:13and you're like,
18:13hey,
18:13is your mom a very kind person?
18:15They'll be like,
18:15yeah,
18:15yeah,
18:15she's the kindest in the world.
18:16Get her up there.
18:16Get her up.
18:17It's very,
18:17very sweet.
18:18And so,
18:19yeah,
18:19I like to think nobody
18:20who has come up
18:21to the audience participation
18:23has left,
18:24you know,
18:25regretting.
18:25I think everyone
18:26has had a really nice time.
18:27Yeah,
18:27that's lovely.
18:28Yeah.
18:28I mean,
18:28the only thing I would regret
18:29is if,
18:31if you ask somebody,
18:32is your mom nice?
18:33And they were like,
18:33no.
18:34Yeah,
18:34that would be.
18:35That is not good casting.
18:37I did.
18:41And I approached people
18:41and asked them,
18:42are you a couple?
18:43And the other day,
18:43it was like,
18:44no,
18:44we're mother and son.
18:45Oh,
18:45I was like,
18:46oh God,
18:46I'm so,
18:47I don't know who I feel
18:48sorry,
18:48more sorry about.
18:49I'm so sorry.
18:51But yeah,
18:52so there's some awkward moments,
18:53but fun stuff.
18:54Well,
18:54the real awkward moment
18:56is when they drove home.
18:57Yes.
18:58Yeah,
18:58I didn't have to be there
18:59for that.
18:59Yeah,
18:59that's nice.
19:00You had our friend,
19:03your current co-star
19:04on Reggie Dinkins.
19:05Tracy Morgan was on this show
19:06and he said he was going to come,
19:08the great Tracy Morgan.
19:09And he said he was going to come
19:10support you on Broadway.
19:11Did he show up?
19:12He absolutely did.
19:13Yeah,
19:13him,
19:13we've had him,
19:15Erica,
19:15Alexander,
19:16Precious Way,
19:17and Bobby Moynihan,
19:17all like so many of the cast
19:18of the show have come.
19:19Tracy,
19:20I was like,
19:20I need to give him something
19:21to shout out.
19:22I landed on number 24
19:24of the show
19:25is Spaghetti Bolognese.
19:27And so,
19:28the people who laughed
19:29know immediately
19:30how that will sound
19:31coming out of Tracy's
19:32amazing voice.
19:33And he absolutely nailed it.
19:34could everybody in the audience
19:35see it was Tracy Morgan?
19:37They could not.
19:37Or when they heard it,
19:38were they like,
19:38oh,
19:39Tracy's here?
19:39Can you imagine that?
19:41Yeah.
19:42The people sitting on stage
19:43might have been able
19:43to see him,
19:44but,
19:44you know,
19:45it's a pretty inimitable
19:46style he has.
19:47So I feel like anyone,
19:49and especially,
19:49maybe you know that I'm
19:51on a show with him
19:51currently,
19:51so people would have
19:52just been going like,
19:53wow,
19:53if that's not Tracy Morgan,
19:54it's a very good
19:55Tracy Morgan impression.
19:56It is very funny.
19:57Like,
19:57at this point in my life,
19:58I've not met a second
19:59person who talks like him.
20:01No,
20:01yeah.
20:01So it would be very weird
20:02if they were at a Broadway
20:03show of somebody
20:04who co-starred with him.
20:05Yes,
20:05actually,
20:06yeah,
20:06yeah,
20:07your parents are very
20:08supportive,
20:09if I recall.
20:09Have they come to see
20:10this show?
20:11They,
20:11yes,
20:12they are batting about 500
20:13in terms of how many shows
20:14they have come to see
20:15right now.
20:15They're at about 50%.
20:16Of this show?
20:17Of this show.
20:18wow,
20:18so they come a lot.
20:19They've come a lot,
20:19they come a lot in previews.
20:21They were there for,
20:21I reckon,
20:22about half the shows.
20:23It does,
20:23it bears re-watching
20:24more than most shows
20:25because so much changes
20:26every night,
20:26but they are also just
20:27very proud,
20:28supportive parents.
20:28And there is one bit
20:29in the show
20:30where I have to reference
20:31an old couple
20:32in the audience,
20:33and it's much nicer
20:34to do that
20:34with my own parents
20:35than to approach
20:36an otherwise like,
20:38you know,
20:39a well-meaning
20:39older couple
20:40and be like,
20:40hey,
20:40do you mind
20:40if I call you old
20:41in the first five minutes
20:43of the show?
20:44So it's easier
20:45to do that with them.
20:46That's very nice.
20:47Your Broadway debut
20:48was Equus.
20:49Yeah.
20:49What was your first
20:50experience doing
20:51a Broadway show
20:51in New York?
20:52Well,
20:52I had,
20:53I mean,
20:53it was amazing.
20:53Like,
20:53I was working
20:54with Richard Griffiths
20:55and all these
20:55incredible actors
20:56and it was,
20:57you know,
20:57a very intense show to do.
20:59This one's a lot more
21:00sort of fun
21:00in many ways.
21:01But there's,
21:02I had this amazing
21:04experience of just like
21:05what a theater-centric
21:06town New York is
21:07because I was running
21:08in Central Park
21:09and I just thought
21:10that I wouldn't,
21:11I would know my way home
21:12and I got incredibly lost
21:14and I exited the park
21:16miles from where
21:16I was supposed to be
21:17and I was like,
21:18right,
21:18I don't know.
21:19And I,
21:19you know,
21:19I know it's a grid
21:20but I hadn't figured
21:21that out yet
21:21and I was trying
21:22to work out
21:23how to get home
21:23and I was like,
21:24oh,
21:24there's a fire truck
21:25and some firefighters,
21:26they probably know
21:27their way around.
21:28So I just went up
21:28to one of them
21:29and I was like,
21:29hi,
21:30do you know how I get
21:31West 66th
21:32or whatever I was
21:33saying?
21:33And the guy,
21:35the firefighter
21:36I talked to was like,
21:36hey,
21:37you're doing that
21:37horseplay,
21:38right?
21:39And I was like,
21:39I don't know,
21:40it was very cool,
21:41the fact that it looks
21:42like everyone in New York
21:43knows about theater
21:44and knew about like
21:45Equus of all the plays
21:46to know about.
21:47It was very cool.
21:48It is the most horseplay
21:49of all horseplay.
21:50It is true horseplay.
21:51It is true horseplay.
21:52I got more to ask you.
21:53We'll be right back
21:54with Daniel after this.
22:11I wanted action.
22:12I am getting it.
22:14Finally,
22:15literal conflict.
22:16For the past two months,
22:17I have done nothing
22:17but eat,
22:18sleep,
22:18and breathe
22:19this documentary.
22:20And now,
22:20look,
22:21we are out in the world,
22:22sun is shining,
22:24blood is pumping,
22:24and something
22:25is about to happen.
22:27I can feel it.
22:29What you doing?
22:30I'm just doing my thing.
22:31I'm the director
22:32in charge of all this.
22:32What you doing?
22:36We're here with Daniel
22:37Reckless.
22:38That was a clip
22:39from The Fall and Rise
22:41of Reggie Dinkins
22:42and Megan Thee Stallion.
22:44Yeah.
22:44And did you direct
22:46Megan here?
22:47I did not.
22:47No, no, no.
22:48I, I, I,
22:49Megan Thee Stallion
22:50is a guest star
22:51in the first season
22:52of our show,
22:52which is like,
22:53we, I think,
22:53we were just incredibly
22:54lucky that somebody
22:55as famous and cool as her
22:56was like,
22:56yeah, we'll dive in on,
22:57I feel like people
22:58normally wait for a show
22:59to become like a hit
23:00before they get involved.
23:01And she, no,
23:02she was like,
23:02I guess she,
23:03Tina knows her.
23:04This is Tina Fey,
23:06Robert Carlock,
23:07Sam Means.
23:08This is an incredible
23:08team of people.
23:09All of whom,
23:12all of whom worked
23:12on 30 Rock, obviously.
23:1530 Rock,
23:16was that a show?
23:16When did you become
23:17aware of 30 Rock?
23:18So, actually,
23:18when I came to New York
23:19to do Equus,
23:20a friend of mine
23:21was visiting from the UK
23:22and he was like,
23:22you're in New York,
23:23you need to watch,
23:24like, the best New York
23:25show that is like current.
23:26And he gave me
23:27a box set of 30 Rock.
23:29And so that was
23:30my first introduction to it.
23:31So the idea that then,
23:32like, 15 years later,
23:33I would be working
23:34with that team
23:35and with Tracy
23:35is just like,
23:36you know,
23:36mind-blowing
23:37and so cool.
23:38And yeah,
23:39the show is great.
23:40It's really funny.
23:41Like, Megan
23:42was so, like,
23:43up for playing
23:43and was really,
23:44really fun
23:44and just awesome.
23:45And yeah,
23:46the whole cast,
23:47like, you know,
23:47Tracy, Erica,
23:48Precious Bobby.
23:49We talked last time
23:50you were here
23:50where we were talking
23:51about Merrily
23:52rolling along,
23:53we were talking
23:53about how you now
23:54know Tracy
23:54and how you can hear
23:56stories about what
23:57Tracy is like,
23:58but until you work
23:59with him,
23:59you don't fully
24:01appreciate how much
24:02he is Tracy Morgan.
24:04Yeah.
24:04You really don't.
24:05And it's a lovely thing
24:07when you watch
24:08other people meet him,
24:09you see people
24:10have the same face
24:11and you're like,
24:11oh, right,
24:12it's just Tracy Morgan,
24:14Tracy Jordan,
24:15there's a very thin line.
24:17Like, after you meet
24:18with Tracy,
24:19you're not like,
24:19how'd you get into
24:20character for Tracy?
24:21Right.
24:22What, do you have
24:23a favorite thing
24:24he said to you?
24:24I mean, I can't
24:25possibly narrow it down.
24:28Like, can I swear?
24:30Can you bleep it?
24:30You can, yeah.
24:31He said at one point,
24:32and this is as much
24:33context as I had
24:34for this comment,
24:35he said,
24:35I told Flavor Flav,
24:36you take that
24:37clock off.
24:41Like, I think
24:42that was just like,
24:43I think that was like
24:44between turnover
24:45and action.
24:45Like, there was no,
24:46it came out of nowhere.
24:48He's like,
24:49I've been to Tracy's house.
24:50Now, that I'm so jealous of
24:51because I've known Tracy
24:52for like 25 years,
24:53never gotten an invite
24:54to the house.
24:55I love talking to him
24:56about the house.
24:57Yeah, it's everything
24:58you think.
24:59So it's,
25:00he does have a shark tank.
25:01He has, I think,
25:03and that's the big one.
25:04Then he's got like
25:0511 smaller fish tanks.
25:07But like,
25:08he does have a pool table
25:09with piranhas in the bottom.
25:12He does have like
25:13a cone snail,
25:14which is the deadliest
25:15creature in the world
25:16by weight.
25:16He can kill a blue whale.
25:18He has a glass
25:19from the Titanic.
25:20He has one of
25:20Michael Jackson's gloves.
25:21He has a basketball court.
25:22Like, it's just,
25:23it is,
25:24yeah, it's the,
25:25like, if you ever
25:26get a chance,
25:27if your life ever,
25:27if your life ever
25:29takes you to a place
25:30where Tracy Morgan
25:30is inviting you to his house,
25:31you just have to go.
25:33I would imagine too,
25:35like,
25:36also you want to,
25:37I would imagine
25:38you want the tour
25:38with Tracy.
25:39You don't want to be there
25:40like when Tracy's out of town
25:41and have,
25:42you don't want somebody else
25:43explaining it to you.
25:44I mean, I did,
25:44I did get some of the tour
25:45from his assistant,
25:47Lucas,
25:47and that's also a very fun person
25:48to get the tour from,
25:49I would say.
25:49Because like,
25:50he knows,
25:50I like,
25:51I'm like,
25:51wait,
25:51how is this happening?
25:52Like,
25:53it's a good,
25:54yeah,
25:54it's a good sort of
25:54behind the scenes
25:55look at things.
25:56We,
25:57once after an Emmy's,
25:58it was like,
25:58all the New York people
25:59who were at the Emmys
26:02just remember it was like
26:03sort of all of us
26:04and,
26:04you know,
26:04on the plane
26:05and Tracy,
26:06you know,
26:06everybody wanted to go to sleep
26:07and then Tracy was just talking
26:08about like,
26:09you know,
26:09his fish tanks.
26:10I remember John Slattery
26:12was like,
26:12I want to sleep,
26:13but I also feel like
26:14this is a once in a lifetime
26:15opportunity.
26:16Yeah.
26:16There's a lot of,
26:17yeah,
26:17I mean,
26:17it is just,
26:18you know,
26:18and I went to a Knicks game
26:19with Tracy,
26:20which again is like
26:21going to the Knicks game
26:21with the mayor of New York.
26:23Yeah.
26:23He's just,
26:24he knows everyone.
26:25He's,
26:25yeah,
26:26he's truly,
26:26he's an amazing character
26:28and kind of like,
26:29particularly at,
26:29at MSG,
26:31he feels like,
26:32you know,
26:32it's,
26:32it's him and Spike Lee.
26:33They are like the guys
26:34who are there every day
26:35and like,
26:36yeah,
26:36it's,
26:36and,
26:37and,
26:37you know,
26:37I think people love a Knicks fan
26:39who is authentically a Knicks fan.
26:41A genuine Knicks fan.
26:41Like,
26:41he is not,
26:42he's not.
26:43He didn't come to it late.
26:44Like,
26:44it's almost like he wanted to be famous
26:46so he could sit there.
26:47And he like,
26:48he shouts to the player.
26:49He kept telling me,
26:50he kept telling me
26:50he was going to make LeBron James
26:52give me one of his shoes.
26:53And I was like,
26:54please don't.
26:55I'm sure he doesn't want
26:56to do the hands.
26:57By the way,
26:58I can't remember who did it,
26:59but Tina went to a game with him
27:00and he was kept,
27:01he pointed out a player,
27:02not even,
27:03someone on the Knicks,
27:04he's like,
27:04I'm going to give,
27:05he's going to give you his shoes.
27:06And Tina's like,
27:06he gave me his shoes.
27:07And it was his,
27:08and I believe it was
27:09that player's first game.
27:10It was.
27:11They just traded for him.
27:12Right.
27:12And Tracy was like,
27:13yo,
27:13give Tina your shoes.
27:14And he did.
27:15He did.
27:16And it's really funny
27:16because Tina has a great picture,
27:18which is like,
27:19if you said like,
27:19what's this a picture of?
27:24His shoes.
27:25Because it's like him talking
27:26and the guy's sort of
27:26looking over at Tina.
27:29And it worked.
27:30You also,
27:31we've talked in the past,
27:32obviously grew up in England,
27:33but now NFL fan.
27:34You love American football.
27:36You've got a child.
27:38Are you trying to get them
27:39into football
27:40or trying to keep them away?
27:41No,
27:42I'm trying to like,
27:42I hope he enjoys it.
27:43I hope he likes watching sports.
27:44So I feel like one of the,
27:46we're pretty good on like screen time,
27:48but we let sports,
27:49we'll just like,
27:49hopefully subliminally,
27:50you'll just be into this.
27:51So like football,
27:52the Olympics,
27:52he was watching a lot of that.
27:54And yeah,
27:54I'm raising a little American.
27:56He's got like a very,
27:57he's got an incredibly cute voice.
27:59When I hear him,
28:00when he's here on his own,
28:02I don't think of him
28:02as having a weird accent.
28:04And then I meet him
28:04with like other American kids.
28:05I'm like,
28:05no,
28:06you have a bizarre little voice.
28:07You have like a very,
28:08you're right in the middle.
28:09But like the other day,
28:11I've left,
28:12I've been working more recently.
28:13So I've been away from home
28:15a little bit more.
28:15And his accent has become
28:17like 20% more American
28:18in the last few weeks.
28:19So it's very,
28:19it's very strange,
28:20but it's very cute.
28:21He says Saturday
28:21with like five R's.
28:23He goes Saturday.
28:24Yeah,
28:24it's cute.
28:24Do you think it's healthy
28:25that you get away
28:26so he can actually like
28:27have the accent
28:27of his home nation?
28:29No,
28:30I'm going to keep trying
28:30to infect him
28:31with like Britishisms.
28:33Like he says trousers
28:34in a cute little voice still.
28:35He's like,
28:36oh,
28:36the game's on.
28:37I'm going to put on
28:37my football trousers.
28:39Yeah,
28:40yeah.
28:41Congrats on the show,
28:43both shows.
28:44And thanks for being here.
28:44It's always the best here.
28:46Daniel Radcliffe,
28:46everybody.
28:47Drawing in every brilliant thing

28:52There's Mondays on NBC.
28:54See you next time.
28:55Peek,
28:55I'll be right back
28:55with Kate.
29:14Our next guest is an Emmy-nominated actress
29:17you know from shows
29:17like A Teacher
29:18and House of Cards
29:19and films such as
29:20Friendship and The Martian.
29:21She stars in Imperfect Women,
29:23which premieres this Wednesday,
29:25March 18th on Apple TV.
29:27Let's take a look.
29:29Hey, babe,
29:29what's going on?
29:30Are we in some sort
29:31of financial trouble?
29:35No.
29:36It's just...
29:38Dad's on my ass
29:39about our spending,
29:40so there's nothing to worry about.
29:42It's got you
29:43on your third scotch
29:44before noon.
29:45Come on.
29:49Does it have anything
29:49to do with that meeting
29:50that you guys all had
29:51in New York?
29:52Hey.
29:54Everything's fine.
29:55It's just a lot of work
29:57to do, that's all.
30:02Mom.
30:04I know how to take
30:05your mind off it.
30:07Please welcome to the show
30:08Kate Mara, everybody!
30:23I'm so happy you're finally here.
30:25Thank you for inviting me.
30:27I'm also...
30:27This is...
30:28You're an East Coaster
30:29who has recently moved back
30:31to the East Coast.
30:32Yes.
30:32And we're so happy
30:32to have you back.
30:33How has your readjustment been
30:35to this part of the country?
30:36It's been great.
30:38We moved in August.
30:40Great.
30:40Yeah, and we live
30:41in a very small town.
30:44We survived the winter.
30:46Great.
30:46So I feel like
30:46that's a real...
30:47It was a rough one.
30:48Yeah.
30:49Yeah, but it's been great.
30:51It's, you know,
30:52it's like we lived
30:52in Los Angeles,
30:53which is such a city,
30:55you know, city vibes.
30:56And now we live
30:57in a very, very small town.
31:00And I realized
31:01that everyone knows
31:02everybody's business.
31:03Yeah.
31:04In a sweet way, though.
31:05That's nice.
31:06Yeah, I think it's sweet.
31:07Okay, that's good.
31:08The way you started saying it,
31:09I don't believe you, but...
31:11No, I think I like it.
31:12We had a...
31:13Well, it was my birthday
31:14a couple weeks ago,
31:15and so for my birthday,
31:17I rented out a theater.
31:20I invited maybe five friends
31:21to watch
31:23Wuthering Heights with me.
31:24And on the day
31:26of my birthday,
31:27I got...
31:27So this is like
31:28a small, local movie theater?
31:29Yes.
31:29Very, very small.
31:30Okay.
31:31And I got an email
31:32from the theater
31:35saying,
31:35oh, my gosh,
31:36we're so embarrassed.
31:38We have a new employee,
31:40and they got a call
31:42from Martha Stewart's assistant
31:43saying,
31:44Martha would love
31:45to rent out
31:46the theater tonight
31:47to watch Wuthering Heights.
31:48And the new employee
31:49didn't know the rules,
31:50and so they said,
31:51oh, no, sorry,
31:52Kate Mara's rented it out.
31:54And then,
31:55and then,
31:56so they said,
31:56you might get a call
31:57from Martha,
31:58and I thought,
31:58well, that's nice.
31:59She might wish me
32:00a happy birthday.
32:01Like, why?
32:01Yeah.
32:02What's the problem?
32:03And then,
32:04my mother actually
32:06got an email
32:07from Martha,
32:07because they're friendly.
32:08Yeah.
32:09And the email said,
32:11basically,
32:12please ignore this
32:12if this is totally
32:13inappropriate,
32:14but I hear your daughter
32:17has rented out the theater,
32:18and me and my banker,
32:20Jane,
32:21are just dying
32:22to see Wuthering Heights.
32:23Can we crash
32:24her birthday party?
32:26We'll sit in the back row,
32:28is what she said.
32:29And so I said,
32:31of course she can come,
32:32and so she was there.
32:34Oh, my God,
32:34so you live in such a small town
32:35that Martha Stewart
32:36came to your birthday.
32:37Yeah.
32:39Do you have photographic evidence
32:40that Martha Stewart was...
32:41Actually, you know,
32:42I said to my friend,
32:43you've got to get a picture.
32:44Get a picture,
32:45but make it, like,
32:46be subtle about it.
32:48And, unfortunately,
32:49they were so subtle about it
32:51that they took a picture
32:52of just us
32:53and not Martha
32:55and Jane.
32:56That's, you're like,
32:56that's way too subtle.
32:57I was like,
32:57what are you doing?
32:58You're like,
32:58it's so subtle,
32:59I didn't do it.
33:00Yeah.
33:02Totally.
33:03Congrats on the show.
33:04This is an Apple show.
33:05They always look incredible.
33:07They're just beautiful.
33:08Did you shoot
33:09in any spectacular places?
33:10Yeah, well,
33:11my character
33:12is supposed to be
33:13very, very, very, very rich
33:15and live in Pasadena.
33:17I think it's Pasadena.
33:19So, yeah,
33:19we filmed in the most gorgeous house
33:22in Hancock Park.
33:23Yep.
33:24And it was just, yeah,
33:25the most, like,
33:26luxurious place to work
33:28for two weeks.
33:28Now, like,
33:29a lot of fictional characters
33:30who have money
33:31and are from Pasadena,
33:32you get murdered
33:32in the first episode.
33:34Yes.
33:34This is not a spoiler.
33:36This is one of those shows
33:36where murder happens
33:37and then you're
33:38in the rest of the show.
33:39Yes.
33:39Yeah.
33:39Do you like shows like this
33:41where you're trying
33:42to figure out what happened?
33:43Because it does feel
33:44like a very fun thing
33:45where you're like,
33:46oh, I know that one of these people...
33:47Yeah, I'm always so wrong.
33:49I never get it right.
33:50Oh, you're bad at it?
33:50Horrible.
33:51Yeah.
33:52Horrible.
33:52I never get it right.
33:53So, do you think
33:53you would have figured
33:54this one out?
33:54Nope.
33:54Okay.
33:56No.
33:56It's based on a book.
33:57Yes.
33:58Would that have helped
33:58if you read the book first?
33:59I read the book
34:01and the whole time
34:02I was reading the book,
34:03I said,
34:03it's this person,
34:04it's this person,
34:05and I was wrong.
34:06And then they changed
34:08certain things in our show.
34:09Okay.
34:10And the whole time
34:10I was reading the scripts,
34:11I was like,
34:12it's this person,
34:14and then I was wrong.
34:14Oh, wow.
34:15Yeah.
34:17Incredible cast,
34:18Elizabeth Moss,
34:19Kerry Washington.
34:20It's also very,
34:21one of those fun shows
34:22where we see it
34:22through all three
34:23of your perspectives.
34:24It seems like
34:25a very unique kind of show.
34:26It must have been fun to do.
34:27It is.
34:27It's really fun.
34:29You know,
34:30it starts off,
34:31the show starts off,
34:32the first two episodes
34:34are from Kerry's,
34:36Kerry Washington's perspective.
34:37And so you really think
34:38that you know
34:40her character
34:41very clearly
34:41from the first episode
34:42and then very quickly
34:44in the second episode,
34:45things are not
34:46what they seem.
34:47And that's sort of
34:48the way it is
34:48for every character,
34:49for all the women,
34:50for all the men.
34:51No one is
34:52who you think
34:53they are, really.
34:54Fantastic.
34:55Yeah.
34:55So fun.
34:56Your sister, Rooney,
34:57also an actor,
34:58and for the first time,
35:00you guys have done
35:00a film together,
35:01which is so exciting.
35:03And can you please
35:05tell me the title of this?
35:06Because I had to
35:06triple read it.
35:07Yes.
35:08It is called
35:08Bucking Fastered.
35:10Okay.
35:12By the way,
35:13this is,
35:13I'm so happy
35:14that you guys waited
35:15until a movie came along
35:17called Bucking Fastered.
35:18And who do you and Rooney
35:20play in Bucking Fastered?
35:21Well, we play
35:23sisters who are
35:24so close
35:25that they speak
35:26in unison.
35:29This is,
35:29I am so excited
35:30about this.
35:31And by the way,
35:32it keeps getting better.
35:33First of all,
35:33it's so funny to me
35:34that that's what you're playing.
35:35It's so funny
35:36what it's called.
35:37And now,
35:38the cherry on top,
35:39will you please tell
35:39everybody who directed
35:40this movie?
35:41Yes,
35:41Werner Herzog
35:42directed it.
35:44It's the best thing
35:45I've ever heard.
35:46It is still
35:47the best thing
35:48I've ever heard.
35:49How was the experience?
35:51It was crazy.
35:53Yeah.
35:53Yes.
35:54In the best way,
35:54but also just like
35:55in the funniest way.
35:57Yeah,
35:57it's also,
35:58I mean,
35:59Werner Herzog...
35:59How do you speak
36:00in unison?
36:00I know.
36:01I don't know,
36:02but we did.
36:03And Werner Herzog
36:04is like very funny
36:05without seeming like
36:06he's trying to be funny
36:07at all.
36:08Yeah,
36:08he's never trying.
36:09Yeah.
36:10But it's always
36:12hysterical,
36:13even when he says
36:14action or cut,
36:15which he doesn't say cut.
36:17Oh, wow.
36:17Just say end it.
36:20Make it suck.
36:21Do you have a Werner Herzog yet?
36:22No.
36:23Oh, you won't.
36:23I never will.
36:24Yeah.
36:25I think it's
36:25the most unique
36:29accent voice
36:29of all time.
36:30It's interesting.
36:31We were just talking,
36:31no, I'm just saying,
36:32like, I don't have a good one,
36:33but, like, Daniel Radcliffe
36:34and I were just talking
36:35about how no one
36:35talks like Tracy Morgan.
36:37Like, they're the same.
36:38Like, no,
36:38there's not another guy
36:39who's like,
36:40you know who sounds
36:40like Werner Herzog?
36:41No.
36:42Klaus over there.
36:43Like, nobody does it.
36:44There's no one like him
36:46on the planet.
36:47It's really awesome
36:47you did that.
36:48Yeah.
36:49You worked with Rooney.
36:50I was lucky enough
36:51to meet another family member
36:53of yours a couple summers ago.
36:54I met your mom,
36:55and it was,
36:56she was just a delight.
36:58Well, my mom told me
36:59the sweetest story about you.
37:01I told her I was coming
37:02on the show tonight,
37:03and she said,
37:04she said,
37:04he is the nicest person.
37:06I went to his house.
37:07I knew nobody else,
37:08and so I felt
37:09a little bit awkward,
37:10and I, you know,
37:11I didn't know where,
37:11it was lunch.
37:12I didn't know where to sit,
37:13and so I just wanted
37:13to stay out of the way.
37:14So she said she kind of
37:16just, like,
37:16found a spot away
37:17from everybody,
37:18and you went up to her,
37:20and you said,
37:21can I sit next to you?
37:22And she said,
37:23me?
37:23Like, oh, okay.
37:26And then she said
37:27that you just asked
37:28her questions
37:28about the Pittsburgh Steelers
37:30and her family
37:31the whole time,
37:31and she said
37:32it was so sweet.
37:34Yeah, I'm rarely,
37:35I'm not usually
37:36that nice to people
37:37who show up uninvited,
37:40but no.
37:41No, she is.
37:42Absolutely not.
37:43But I mean,
37:44your mother was so lovely,
37:44and I did, of course.
37:45Like, I'm a huge
37:46Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
37:46Your great-grandfathers
37:49started the Pittsburgh Steelers
37:50and the New York Giants,
37:51which is an incredible,
37:52this is an incredible
37:53football family,
37:54and I was so happy
37:55to talk to your mom
37:56about it,
37:56and she was so lovely.
37:58And I'm wondering,
37:59obviously, you come
38:00from this family
38:01that's like two
38:01famous football families.
38:03Now you have children
38:04of your own.
38:05Are you raising them
38:06to be sort of like
38:07insane fans?
38:09Because I'm a little worried
38:10my kids are gonna...
38:11Become that.
38:11Yeah.
38:12Yeah, I think that
38:13it just happens.
38:14I mean,
38:15my kids are three,
38:17six, and 12.
38:19I have a 12-year-old stepson,
38:20and my three-year-old
38:22just started, you know,
38:24sort of experiencing
38:25what it's like
38:26to watch me
38:27watch a game.
38:28Yeah.
38:29And it's really scary
38:31for him.
38:32Yeah.
38:33Especially, you know,
38:34his last season
38:34was really rough
38:35for the New York Giants,
38:36and so anytime
38:38I would put on
38:39a Giants game,
38:40he would go,
38:41oh, the Giants are on?
38:44How sad.
38:48So, anyway,
38:50we gotta change that.
38:51Yeah.
38:51Because we don't want
38:52him traumatized
38:52every time.
38:54I had a thing where
38:54when the Steelers
38:55got eliminated,
38:56you know,
38:56it happened at night,
38:57so I had to wake up
38:58the boys and tell them,
38:59and I was like,
39:00the Steelers lost.
39:01It's like a death.
39:01Yeah.
39:02I mean, I waited
39:03until the morning.
39:03I didn't like...
39:04I was broke.
39:06I didn't like go,
39:07wait, wait, wait,
39:08it's over,
39:09it's over.
39:10All right,
39:11sleep good.
39:13But the next day,
39:14like,
39:14we were walking
39:14to school,
39:15and my oldest,
39:15who's nine,
