00:03Are you a fan of physics based puzzle platformers?
00:05Well, one upcoming game that needs to be on your radar is EA's Unravel.
00:09I had a quick hands on with the first two levels last week,
00:11which EA Access members will be able to play from the 4th of February on Xbox One.
00:16Created and developed by a small team at Coldwood Interactive,
00:18Unravel follows the journey of Yarny, a cute little character made of yarn.
00:22As he moves along he slowly unravels, leaving a trail behind him
00:25which he can use to build bridges, climb back out of holes
00:27and even make a lasso to help him reach new areas or pull switches.
00:31He can also swing on or push various objects around to help him pass obstacles.
00:35My favourite being apples because of the satisfying sound they make as you push them along.
00:41The puzzles I played are challenging but enjoyable,
00:44leaving me with that portal feeling of being completely stuck one minute
00:47but then being super chuffed with myself as soon as I'd solved it.
00:50I particularly loved using bridges as slingshots.
00:53Weeeee! Thumbs up for physics!
00:56The levels are inspired by Coldwood's home of Northern Sweden.
01:00Yarny starts his journey through a summer garden full of weeds and a wooded coastline
01:03with players having a gorgeous close-up view of the world at his eye level.
01:07So, regular eye level for short people like me, am I right?
01:10Creative director Martin Sahlin came up with the idea whilst on a camping trip with his family,
01:15making a little Yarny and taking photos of him using the yarn to reach places.
01:18However, Yarny's thread is not just a clever game mechanic that Martin came up with.
01:22He also sees it as a metaphor for the bonds between people.
01:25See, Yarny is trying to bring back together something which should never have been apart.
01:29He finds memories as he wanders along, collecting a knitted memento at the end of each level,
01:33helping to fill up a photo album.
01:35The story is told without words and helped by local Swedish folk music,
01:38which sets the tone and atmosphere for the game.
01:40It's gorgeous, can be helpfully calming when you're trying to solve a particularly tricky puzzle,
01:45and I can honestly see this becoming one of my favourite game soundtracks of all time.
01:54I also need reassurance in the comments that I'm not going to be the only one who might cry listening
01:59to it.
02:00One danger you'll need to worry about is Yarny running out of yarn.
02:04Eventually you may get to a point where he can go no further,
02:07no matter how hard he tugs at the trail behind him.
02:09In order to progress, or at least get to the next checkpoint ball of yarn where he can top up,
02:14you'll have to make Yarny backtrack until you find a route that is a bit more economical.
02:18Things like attaching yarn to attachment points, making multiple bridges,
02:21or going the slightly longer route will unravel Yarny faster,
02:24so look out for alternate paths to make your yarn go further along the level.
02:28There are also animals that can be a danger to our woolly friend.
02:31For example, you come across crabs by the sea who are not afraid to whack Yarny out of their space,
02:36or grab him with their sharp pincers and throw him around in a way that is utterly heartbreaking to watch.
02:41But there is always some way of getting past them.
02:44It may just take some trial and error before you work out what that is.
02:47Also, speaking of the sea, you don't want Yarny to go swimming.
02:51There's a reason they don't make woolen swimming costumes anymore.
02:53After having my little hands on, I can safely say I can't wait to play the full game when it's
02:57out on the 9th of February.
02:59And honestly, you'd be silly not to try it.
03:03It's so good.
03:05Anyway, sorry for those puns.
03:07Thanks for watching and subscribe for way more cool videos from us.
03:09Bye!
