A railway heritage charity is preparing plans to excavate a small platform believed to date back to 1827. Volunteers are expected to be involved during the summer.

00:08The site dates back to 1827, and it formed part of the first passenger railway using steam trains.
00:15The station was bought last year by the Friends of the Stockton and Darlington Railway Charity.
00:21Chair Niall Hammond says a small cobbled platform nearby is thought to be original.
00:26Early plans include a volunteer dig over the summer, alongside longer-term ambitions to restore the building and open it to the public.
00:35The group hopes funding applications will support future restoration work at the historic site.
00:41Restoration work is estimated at £3 million.
