00:04Mirage is a multiplayer combat video game
00:08that takes a while to learn, takes a while to get good at.
00:10But we're a multiplayer, competitive,
00:13what we like to call a first person slasher.
00:14A Persian influenced gore fest.
00:17That blends melee combat with magic combat.
00:20So sword fighting and magic.
00:21You're blasting people with magic, you're stabbing them in the face with swords
00:24and it's just complete chaos online multiplayer.
00:26It still comes from the chivalry DNA of screaming into battle, smashing heads.
00:31That's kind of our brand now is gore and massive amounts of screaming.
00:35I will have your heads!
00:41Mirage really expands on the brutality of chivalry.
00:45The magic sort of allows us to do things we never could in just a physical game before
00:49so we can really knock people up into the air.
00:52And have the whole character just evaporate into thin air.
00:55Impale them with things.
00:56And just leave a pair of legs falling to the ground.
00:58So the amount of gore that you'll actually get in any given moment
01:01is based specifically on the amount of damage you're dealing,
01:04the direction it's going, what attacks being applied.
01:06The blood splattering on the world kind of allows you to tell the story
01:09of a combat encounter that's just happened.
01:11Your health is based on how bloody you get.
01:14So if you see a guy that's just drenched in blood,
01:17you know he's been messed up in the battle.
01:19At the end of that you really want some payoff
01:21because it can be sort of an emotional engagement.
01:23So the gore is a way for us to deliver on that
01:26and sort of the satisfaction of defeating an opponent.
01:28Even if you're not doing very well,
01:29it's still really satisfying the occasional kills that you do get.
01:32And you know if the first time you jump into the game you get destroyed,
01:35we also want something to pull you back.
01:37And so we use the gore a lot of the time to do that
01:39where if you get that one kill out of your ten lives
01:42and that one kill is the most satisfying moment you've ever had,
01:45you know that's what we're looking for.
01:46We basically want the game to be a giant stress ball
01:49for people to kind of relieve the frustrations of daily life.
01:52We want to create this huge contrast
01:53between the beauty that you see in this calm world that you're in
01:57and then all of a sudden oh my god everything is covered in blood.
02:01We've given our players very unique and dynamic magical abilities.
02:06To leap into the air and then slam down
02:08and then smash three people and they all go flying.
02:11You know there's limbs flying all across the room.
02:12and in that moment we want the player to feel invincible.
02:16Physics in Mirage are really important
02:18for adding a sense of weight to all the combat.
02:22So when you hit someone it's not like their body just limply falls down.
02:25You'll know the strength of that hit that you just knocked them with
02:28and their body will go flying across the room.
02:31It adds a lot of humor to the game
02:32because physics just naturally creates some element of polarity.
02:35They're also core to nailing sort of the comedy of gore
02:38which is fundamental to the DNA of Torn Banner Studio
02:41and the satisfaction of it as well.
02:44I managed to lob someone right across the midsection.
02:47It's now used like a bulldozer
02:48to just knock all these them over the cliff
02:51and of course you get this long falling scream
02:53which is one of my favorite sounds in the game.
02:55It's a whole lot of violence and death and destruction
02:57and that's a huge part of the game
02:59because we want players to feel rewarded for the action that's going on here.
03:02And we also want it to look like a total mess when you're done with each other.
03:05We want to make a hardcore game.
03:07This world is going to be covered in blood and gore
03:09from all the crazy combat scenarios you'll find yourself in.
03:13What if you keep going on here?
03:23This world is a huge löper.
03:23Well this is a luxury project of roars or a brick cloud.
03:24I are not nearly overused
03:24and thereeks are going on here.
03:27I want to invest in people in the전.
03:27I want to invest in people in there somewhere else.
03:27I want to invest in life small people.
03:27I don't want that confidence.
03:28I want you only to get aしまして
