00:00Hi, it's Larry Herb, Xbox Live's Major Nelson.
00:03I'm sitting here with Matt Salzamende, who is the CEO of Beam.
00:06Very exciting news today.
00:08Microsoft has announced that we are acquiring Beam,
00:10which is really great news for you and all of the members of Beam, right?
00:13Yeah, it's super exciting.
00:15Now let's talk about Beam.
00:16What exactly is it for those folks that aren't familiar with your service?
00:19Yeah, so Beam is an interactive live streaming platform for gamers.
00:22We let people not only just watch people playing video games,
00:25but actually interact with them as well in real time.
00:28So let's say you're watching like your favorite Minecraft streamer.
00:30You're not just passively watching.
00:32You can actually go in and give them challenges,
00:34give them tools, weapons, things like that,
00:36and affect their actual gameplay, which is super exciting.
00:39Now this is kind of happening today on other services,
00:42but you all do it with chat, right?
00:44You have technology.
00:45Beam has technology that provides low latency interactivity, right?
00:50Yeah, so it starts with low latency.
00:51That's really the empowerer behind this.
00:53We have sub-second stream delay.
00:54So you're talking actually around 200 milliseconds
00:56between when the streamer does something in their game
00:59and when their viewers see it.
01:00And that's also great for chat interaction as well.
01:02But what's super cool is the SDK that we provide
01:05to allow developers to create interactive buttons,
01:07joysticks, and other things like that
01:09to actually drive gameplay elements.
01:11Now people are sitting at home watching this probably wondering,
01:13well, wait a minute.
01:14What does this mean for Beam on other platforms?
01:17So what does that mean?
01:17Yeah, it's a totally fair question.
01:19And we're expecting that users are going to be wondering,
01:21you know, how this affects them.
01:22and the answer is it doesn't really in terms of like platform support
01:25and things like that.
01:26We're continuing to support the wide variety of platforms
01:28that we support today, same games, and we'll continue that.
01:31So Matt, where do people go to sign up for Beam?
01:34Yeah, if they want to check out Beam,
01:35check out some of the streams that we have going,
01:37or start their own, they can go to beam.pro.
01:39We make it super easy to get started.
01:41This is really great news.
01:42Do you have anything you want to leave the folks at home with?
01:45Yeah, I mean, the biggest thing for us,
01:47we're such a community-driven platform.
01:49we would not be here if it wasn't for the streamers, viewers, developers,
01:53our investors, the people that have supported us to get to this point.
01:56And I have to give a thank you to everyone that has helped get us here.
01:59It's so exciting, and we're really excited for the next topic.
02:02Well, this is great news.
02:03Congratulations, Matt, and thank you so much for watching.
