00:04on sale this week so the rover van den Plouwer here we are you can argue they're probably
00:14underrated it is the final drive it's not quite a Rolls-Royce but it's as good as you feel like
00:21you're on a nice ocean liner just cruising it's up there it's van den Plouwer it's a bonnie color
00:27it's a lovely condition car sensible on the miles very very genuine little car 1992 Peugeot 205 GTI
00:37wow these are romping on dad have you seen this guess the mileage guess the mileage no more than
00:4615,000 oh you're right yeah level the smell give it away a wartime 1942 Harley-Davidson motorcycle
00:56yeah oh my god we've got some bids here don't come across many of these dear big V twins they
01:03you've
01:04got to remind the Yanks really I mean they're make an ostentatious machine but at the same time it's
01:09purposeful in it I mean it's amazing bit of kit the Matthewsons a dynasty of classic car auctioneers
01:2055 the joys of an auction most people will go to us out with something in mind but come away
01:25with
01:25something different the fun is the chase we'll have a look and we'll advise you from there you
01:29just don't know what's on the end of the phone what you're gonna find when you open them doors
01:33this is a family's love affair with motors that have lived a life testing testing most people will buy a
01:41car because they can relate to it maybe a car that dad had you're selling dreams right here we go
01:51whoa whoa wait wait wait oh no I'll carry on with handbrake
01:59it's the start of another working week and Derek's already reached a state of inner bliss
02:06every Monday morning I go out a Monday particularly I go out and think to myself no matter where I'm
02:12going or what I'm doing and I think brilliant this I love this I've got this collection or whatever it
02:20might be to do today and then I've got the rest of the week to catch up with things and
02:25all the rest
02:26of it so it's the starting of a new week so I love Mondays I absolutely adore Mondays I don't
02:32like
02:33Fridays you know you look back and you think we should have done a bit more I've underachieved this
02:38week I'm not done as well as I would have liked but on Mondays you're optimistic in front of you
02:42you know brilliant good old Derek hmm but there's every reason to be happy the garage is filling up
02:55nicely with space being made for a new arrival from just up the road a 1985 Rover SD1 the owners
03:04more
03:04than prepared to drive it over I can remember the first time I went out in one my dad took
03:09me out in
03:09one and then the dash was like something out of Concord at the time you know it's like this long
03:13as a
03:14kid they're like you know and the choke down by the you know down here by the handbrake with just
03:21about every other car had ever been in the choke was under the dash somewhere and yeah just great
03:26and I remember it being a V8 manual which is the ones I have really this one's a 2.6
03:31I think that's
03:32coming in it looks absolutely lovely deep in rural North Yorkshire Alistair Broadbeth is getting
03:40ready to say his goodbyes to an 80s classic and in doing so honor the memory of one of his
03:46closest
03:47chums it's a parto red it's a lovely color British Leyland they had some really good colors in the 1980s
03:59and this just epitomizes the 1980s what was coming out of Longbridge at the time when you said when
04:05you first said a portal I don't know why but I thought red wine well that's how I remember it
04:12because of port the Rover SD1 belonged to Mark Elliott Alistair's best buddy for the last 20 years
04:22who's recently passed away and being a vandenpla it's luxury on wheels Mark was the third owner of
04:30this car it was originally a bank managers it's that sort of middle class you know 1980s scenario I mean
04:40the Germans there were the BMW 5 series we had the the Rover range and VW they had their like
04:48the early
04:49Passats so and then there was the Audi's of course which were competition really for the Rover car and
04:56it's when Rovers were good and with it being a vandenpla you know it's a little bit more plushier
05:03inside so you know you've got your piping the interior the roof is really good quite well appointed
05:10inside really we're going to pick her in and hopefully they're going to do a good job at selling this
05:16car for us
05:28oh look at these yeah something special aren't they wow look at that oversized and over here
05:37and lurking with the motorbike squad a 1940s military spec Harley Davison one of three that's been brought
05:44in big V twins they you gotta remind the yanks really I mean they're make an ostentatious machine
05:51but at the same time it's purposeful in it I mean when this is running along at 60 mile an
05:55hour it's
05:55probably only doing 1200 revs and it's like a like a great big v8 almost in this almost a v2
06:02it's amazing bit of kit it's absolutely incredible yeah a little bit of a limited market amongst the
06:08older guys because I mean it's so big and so heavy to lug about but then again it's iconic and
06:14it's
06:15military makes a difference yeah clutch this side look at the head even that's made for army boots and
06:21it was size of the thing and hand change I love hand change but because our hand changes over here
06:27those left-hand drive it's a left-hand drive motorcycle how about that yeah oh yeah well I've got a
06:35big
06:35ass do you all get on here sit on the back are you no no you want me to try
06:39yeah no sit on the front
06:40go on no go on no they won't get on there look what if I get my leg over it
06:44and don't I'll stay
06:45the right go on now you're all right go on that's it yeah yeah easy rider and all of that
06:49you got
06:50it yeah yeah yeah marvellous she looks like an American cop got the uniform on look hey yeah
06:57she does look apart yeah Derek yeah no so I'm just checking if that is a stand but it's not
07:04I don't think it's a bomb I'm on me both feet you're all right it's not gonna right well we're
07:08done are we now yeah crack on is it holding it yeah it stands right yeah you got it yeah
07:12well
07:12on well on Jill right out guys suits you yeah oh yeah I'm not buying it though right crack on
07:18come
07:18on so a genuine wartime bike so I suppose it's going to fall into the category of a willys jeep
07:24and a good willys jeep is 20,000 quid 25,000 for something that is absolutely stunning especially
07:31like a 1942 with proper wartime history these I don't suppose will achieve quite that money but
07:36probably 15,000 quid on a good day this is a very niche market but an ever so strong market
07:50look at that paint with the sun coming off it blimey yeah that is nice while some vehicles have been
07:56to
07:56hell and back wowzers others have had it easy I saw it pull up on the on the lorry and
08:03I thought
08:04blimey that looks clean and then the more you look around it it is immaculate that is really nice isn't
08:09it look at the interior as well oh that's probably why Phil 11837 I'm not very good at maths but
08:20that's
08:2111,837 I think isn't it blimey is that all it's done there'll be a lot of interest in a
08:31restored
08:311992 1.6 Peugeot 205 GTI a one owner motor that's been garaged for 18 years let's face it you
08:41know
08:41your stereotypical one what comes in they've all been used they're all all right you know they're
08:46all a little bit mediocre aren't they you know every now and then you get one yeah taking me by
08:52surprises a little bit it is lovely yeah dad have you seen this guess the mileage guess the mileage
09:02guess the mileage can I look at the seat you can have a look at the driver's seat but don't
09:08look
09:08at the dashboard you've got to stay from this angle Dave's getting the whiff of an underused car
09:13you can smell it that's likely to send the punters into a feeding frenzy no more than 15,000 oh
09:23you're
09:24right yeah 11 11 11 so you can the smell give it away yeah it's straight away first thing you
09:30can tell
09:31yeah you're not gonna find a nicer one are you no no it's really really nice the vendors hoping for
09:37upwards of 25 grand everything looks correct and period on the car um so so should the wheels yeah
09:46um I would put 1.6 wheels on it straight away and I'll put a set of mud flaps on
09:50it straight away
09:51try and get the Peugeot mud flaps used to have Peugeot 205 right and I'll try and get them in
09:55yeah that's what I would do yeah and really just finish it off hang on it's my bank manager
10:00can I yeah can I buy a Peugeot yeah there you are it all boils down to a sensible reserve
10:08at the end
10:08of the day it must be nearly the lowest mileage one in the in the UK surely and in this
10:13condition
10:14now it's going to be an interesting one but yeah no cause a lot of interest I'm sure
10:32the Sun's cracking the flags in North Yorkshire just the sort of day that lingers long in the mind
10:38and for a 40 year old Rover sd1 it's one to remember too it is the final drive Alistair
10:46Broadwith is taking his best friend's motor for a final spin destination the Matthewsons auction
10:53quite emotional sort of the last connection I have with Mark's car but it's an honour and a
11:00privilege to do we're celebrating you know Mark and and how he loved the car I met Mark he was
11:09delivering parcels for us in our area he became sort of on the bit of the blue really because he'd
11:17seen the route master bus which I owned at the time not knowing that Mark he's great passion in
11:25life was buses and especially London route master buses he was one of my best friends and you know
11:32look at it now it was very hard you know a year ago when we lost mark and but I
11:39just have to be
11:39grateful for them 20 years that we spent together it was great it's not quite a Rolls-Royce but it's
11:50as good as you feel like you're on a nice ocean liner just cruising and that silky smooth six cylinder
12:00it just burbles away they were looked upon as a poor man's Jack but what makes this car a little
12:08bit
12:08special Mark and me quite like the film Bob Sue and Rita too and of course what was in that
12:17film and a
12:19Porto red Rover SD-1 but it is a great film I think it's very fitting really that the family
12:29has sort of
12:31entrusted me to to look after the car and make sure it goes you know to the next home and
12:40custodian
12:41Mark would have loved it today going to Matthew Simmons Mark was quite emotional and I'm quite
12:48emotional and I think you know it's a fitting thing to take it on its last journey I think it's
13:06quite rare
13:07isn't it Harley army bike there's been loads of interest in these old bikes they really have there
13:12must be something a bit special I don't see it myself like but bikes haven't been someone particularly
13:16well have they as a rule no but one or two this sale actually have so they've entered the three
13:22Harley Davidsons brought them in one Saturday and he said I'll please get them in this auction
13:26because I need a new roof so the money is funding his new roof it's like a church appeal isn't
13:31it really
13:34there might be a bit of dust on it it might have been stood around a little bit but but
13:37you know look
13:38beyond look beyond so well that's right a little bit of stubble a bit overweight maybe possibly maybe
13:54a wartime 1942 Harley Davidson motorcycle yeah oh my god we got some bids here don't come across many
14:02of these do you right 13 4 13 6 13 8 14 14 2 14 4 14 6 they're looking
14:12for 14 800 14 7 14 8 who's got 9
14:18are you all done 14 9 15 15 15 15 1 15 thousand 100 on sale and selling then 15
14:27thousand 100 here's the
14:2915 to be quick 15 thousand 100 15 thousand 100 for the first second third and last time 15 1
14:38thank
14:38you right so the hammer went down at 15 once there's a happy server somewhere isn't there maybe you could
14:45get a
14:45fatty roof maybe it'll be gold plated or something he must have a fair roof he's doubled his estimate he'll
14:50be thrilled to bits he'll be having double the depth of insulation in it now it will be a massive
14:55view value now all that's sorted there's collections to be made and Derek's heading west to the other
15:04side of the Pennines strange thing is I'll spend more time in Bolton after like 10 o'clock at night
15:11than I have during the day because it's it's one of them places that I call in and pick a
15:17car up on the
15:18way back and it always seems to be evening time and so I've only really really seen Bolton after dark
15:26but they tell me that's the best time to view it so we'll see while Derek works on his application
15:34to
15:34join the Bolton tourist board former bus driver Paul Hoskins is waiting with a pair of triumphs a
15:40two-tone Herald and a sporty Vitesse I've had this car for 20 years and the time I had it
15:50on the road and
15:51run it and maintained it I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it unfortunately no the amount of work
15:58that's required on the Vitesse is beyond what I am physically capable of doing and the Herald was
16:04purchased as a stopgap but it's time now to have a complete change our family had standards and
16:13triumphs for as long as I can remember this is a 1963 Triumph Herald which has a 1200 engine in
16:23it we we had
16:25one of the first heralds off the production line in 1959 it was Litchfield green all over oh it was
16:34horrible because a herald is crying out for the two-tone it was a lovely car but it would have
16:40been
16:40nicer if it was green and white they might seem similar but of the two it's the Vitesse that's the
16:46nippy thoroughbred I'd always fancied one simply through a comment that my dad made in 1962 we
16:55was reading this Sunday paper and he saw the advert for the brand new Vitesse which was a Herald with
17:01a
17:021600 six-cylinder engine in it and he looked at the advert he took his glasses off he looked at
17:09the
17:09advert he put his glasses on again and looked at me and he says good god you wouldn't drive that
17:16you'd
17:16point it it was the grand tourer of the time this particular model is what they call a single dial
17:25it only has a speedo in it and the salespeople at triumph were having difficulty selling them
17:33because the opposition had far more instrumentation and within about 12 or 18 months triumph had put
17:42rev counters and other instruments in the dashboard so the single dial ones know are actually quite rare
17:49there's only ten 1962 models known to exist so it's it's something special it's time to have a
17:58change I'm afraid I can no longer stand the cold a little bit of model railway I've always been
18:04interested in railways which I can work on in the house in the warm with a wee glass of scotch
18:10at the
18:10side of me oh right well in that case I better come and fill model railways and not stand out
18:15here
18:16and go filming your car then you're welcome any time a few days ago a very low mileage Peugeot 205
18:35tipped up clean isn't it well not clean but clean now look what else has landed
18:42oh no I is 4,000 I didn't see the last did you yeah 4,987 mile now the Volvo
18:59300 series might look as
19:01Swedish as meatballs but its roots lie in the Netherlands when Volvo took over DAF's car
19:06making division in the mid 70s it was an attempt to break into the compact car market and early
19:14models used DAF's quirky transmission system unlike virtually every other car it was basically propelled
19:20by a rubber band traditional engines soon took over peaking with the two-litre four-cylinder 360
19:28which was a gateway for many to the tank-like durability that became Volvo's hallmark
19:40well that's a new car isn't it really so that screws 4,000 mile that doesn't it yeah all nice
19:49and
19:50puffed up not not saggy and horrible it's probably were six and six and a half but I can see
19:59it doing
19:59more by the time we've cleaned it and and so I got it ready it won't look far adrift just
20:07just staff
20:08little bits like that exhaust look that'd annoy me if it was mine because it's not the right color and
20:13it's all rusty and horrible just just staff stuff like that if you do them it'll just just finish it
20:19just be lovely
20:41hello
20:42nice to meet you Derek you all right nice to meet you Paul right you're going
20:46Derek's landed in Bolton to collect Paul Hoskins two triumphs
20:51that posh spot John on it hey Bolton's gone up in my opinion the heralds are running unlike the
20:58Vitesse which hasn't moved in 15 years and needs some TLC there's a starting procedure with this if you
21:06leave it overnight or for a few days pull the chalk fully out yeah when you go to start it
21:11push the
21:11chalk in to about three quarters right pump the accelerator pedal twice to prime the carb
21:17right and she'll be straight on the bottom right no problem now is it left down one's clutched on
21:24it isn't it left wheel yeah I think it's one far left yeah well try them all and see what
21:29happens
21:38oh power steering ain't working
21:43I'm going to get that on here push that one out load her on tea cake all the rest of
21:49it and away
21:52this is a sad moment this very sad moment
21:58stock I think so
22:04right what's the plan here then Derek just pull it right simple as that
22:10go get up cup off what for they were quick they were the XR3 of their day yeah well 1600
22:18cc
22:19six cylinder engine way on top of the job little tiny body oh yeah and of course they went up
22:24to
22:24two litre as we know in about 1967 or something 66 triumph sort of got it right didn't they for
22:32once
22:33only thing I forgot was that all the running gears 15 20 years older but I haven't said that they
22:40were
22:40good kind of day I like them I'm a fan of them definitely fan of them such Italian flair everybody
22:48wanted them you name another car that has such flair and even the flair of the back of the roof
22:55matches the flair of the fins but they had to be too torn grand to meet you Paul lovely to
23:04meet you
23:04absolute pleasure got the keys in the car yeah both lots of keys in the car I'll do me time
23:10sheet and
23:11then back to God's own country somebody out there will say that will make a nice car when it's done
23:18and I'm hoping that they will buy it do the restoration and one day I'll see her back on the
23:24road again maybe even have a wee ride in there that would be lovely 609 mark three rally chopper 210
23:36pound and away then 210 all done 210 pound got more on the sheet I can't do that it's auction
23:43day and
23:44they're up and off with some serious selling out of gas gasoline whereabouts then 55 pound that's one
23:52lot down just another 800 to go next up the pristine Peugeot GTI with less than 12,000 miles on
24:00the clock
24:051992 Peugeot 205 GTI lot number 630 Wow these are romping on right here we go then rear on south
24:13in the
24:13world go 26,000 26 27 28 29 29 loads of interest in it 29,029 going then 29,000
24:22pound who's gonna fill
24:24it up 29,000 pound all done then 29,000 five 29,005 29,005 30 30,000 30,000
24:3430,000 30,000 30,000 30,000 30,000 30,000 30,000 30,000 31,000 on side
24:43on sale of selling 31,000 pound I know it's not worth 30 grand 31 31 31 the low mileage
24:57Peugeot has exceeded
24:58everyone's expectations now who's up for a hardly used Volvo
25:07it's a 1986 Volvo 360 GLT now I'll just tell you where we're going to start
25:12he bought it new it's done 4,800 miles that's all it's done it smells new and looks new inside
25:21going then 6,800 6,800 7,000 7,000 pound 7,200 7,400 7,400 smells like a
25:32brand new car inside
25:33I can't really I've got so much interest 7,600 I'll take 7,600 7,600 put a bid in
25:40for 7,600 for nothing
25:42this car 7,600 is that okay buy a brand new Volvo 360 GLT 7,600 7,600 7,800
25:52Wrexham right somebody jumped in
25:55now job would be right 7,800 8,000 8,000 going then gonna submit it 8,000 pound 8
26:02,000 pound lovely car
26:038,000 submitting for the first 8,000 pound with us third and last time provisionally 8,000 pound
26:13Alan goodbye 8,000 pound it's yours we've got it okay the office will be in touch all right thank
26:21you
26:21very much thank you thanks bye the 360 isn't going far a Volvo specialist garage in York has snapped it
26:30up
26:39it looks a nice usable car and then plaque how are we then Alistair good nice to meet you mate
26:46nice to meet you good lad here she is look all the way from the sticks Mark Elliott's 40 year
26:52old Rover
26:53drive all right it's never missed a beat all the way over so well it's only done just over 38
27:00,000 miles
27:00is that all it's done with every single bill from new original owners all the MOT's yeah yeah so I
27:09mean if you look at the seats you can tell yeah look at them seat bolsas and so forth look
27:14prove the
27:15mileage yeah that's it pedal rubbers mats carpets yeah just general dashboard and so forth hopefully
27:21well to be fair that's the main thing for this one isn't it you know go to a good home
27:24at the end of the day
27:25it's all about that and Mark would have loved that definitely I wish I'd met him good lovely car
27:33really nice car once tucked up in the showroom the Rover reveals its finer points I mean the Vitesse was
27:41the sports version wasn't it but in a luxury car world it's the next thing down I know it's not
27:49a V8 but
27:50on the ladder it's up there you know it's up there it's Vandenpla it's a bonnie colour it's a lovely
27:55condition car sensible on the miles nice wheels nice finish you know very very genuine little car but
28:03it's 2.6 so it could be worse could be a 2 litre couldn't it if it was a V8
28:08it would be a chunk more money
28:10as well if it was a Vitesse it would be a chunk more money again so balance it all up
28:17not a bad option at all
28:19in my book yeah it's had a reasonable a bit of paint over the years I would suggest but it's
28:28been done
28:28nicely the good thing about it is it's been done some time ago so any paint that it has had
28:35is going
28:37back a bit nobody wants to buy anything that was painted last Tuesday afternoon I don't think it's had
28:43a full house I just think it's had bits and pieces to keep it looking nice if a car looks
28:47nice in this bright
28:48sunlight like now this is here yeah look fantastic in the shade yeah I would think you're going to be
28:55looking around the 8,000 pound mark I would think
29:07the lots keep on arriving including Derek's load that's made a triumphant return from Bolton
29:22I'm going to ask him how long that's been packed up for it's not going to be every man and
29:27his dog
29:27wanting it but I'm sure that there'll be two or three or four people that will want to buy this
29:32one or
29:32that one or whatever the marketing really should be alright for them as long as we do our job right
29:42me Vitesse every time six-cylinder I love that six-cylinder
29:46the little Forza great little car don't get me wrong little 1200 lovely little thing little sweetie
29:50I bet you want a six potter don't you really there's no substitute to pistons is there the more
30:13the merrier
30:15the showrooms filling up I don't mind them I think they're a good little car amongst the lots
30:20two triumphs a non-starting six-cylinder Vitesse that needs a bit of love it's all about that badge
30:27isn't it but not a big money because of the work required on the car I would say it's probably
30:33going
30:34to hit around the three thousand pound mark and a two-tone Herald that's ready to rock in the world
30:42of
30:50you get into a Herald through the gap whereas these are an absolute mechanics dream
30:57because you've got full access to everything and not only have you got full access to everything
31:03they've even thought about giving you a seat to do it
31:10I mean what other car gives you a seat to sit on and somewhere to put your cup of tea
31:16that put your cup of tea there or here you just got a tray there yeah so you can have
31:20tea sandwich biscuits
31:22yeah lovely isn't it everything is simple if you can't work on one of these triumph Heralds
31:30then basically you can't work on anything mechanical not in our industry no way you know if this beats you
31:38then life's beat you really to be honest with you yeah now so for that reason alone
31:45they've got to be on your list haven't they a little Herald like that
31:51four four and a half thousand pound which is a lot of little car isn't it for that you know
31:57in our world that's not a lot of money
32:05we picked this up yeah it was over the border wasn't it yeah we took a risk getting over there
32:10really didn't we
32:10we don't like going over there particularly do we what a lovely day we had yeah we had a good
32:14day
32:15we had cake and all the rest of it didn't we and all that sort of stuff
32:17we still did yeah it was great 462 63 triumph Feral 1200 nice old car
32:22do you know what i've got a bid here absolutely bang on in line with the reserve how about that
32:29that's spooky isn't it 4 000 pounds 41 4 100 4 100 on sale and going 4 100 all done
32:37then i'm selling it
32:384 100 and away all done then 4 100 4 1 there you go
32:45now the second car we picked up which is the Vitesse start me on it whereabouts 2000 2002 2004 2004
32:532004 nice old car 1600 early one 1600 better still smoother still 2400 2400 pound 24 not enough 24 25
33:03worth a lot more this car
33:0425 2005 only selling it provisionally only are you all done then 2500 won't be enough got to find some
33:11more money
33:1225 provisional 463 snap-on solace ultra diagnostic tool eh it's a proper tool you got there Mick
33:21in the end 2400 clinched the deal the Vitesse is heading south to Essex
33:28i think i've only put 50 miles on it but it will get used
33:40the ultra low mileage Peugeot that was sold with 11 800 miles on the clock is still being pampered
33:47it's not like it's going to be a daily driver it's just going to be high days and holidays kind
33:52of
33:53thing it'll never see rain that's for sure
33:56even in Newcastle?
33:58yep even in Newcastle it's er the only water it's going to see is for the radiator and the washer
34:03bottle
34:03and that's it
34:05this is the second Peugeot 205 GTI that Tony Sayers has owned
34:11mine was red exactly the same spec sunroof red 1600 perfect
34:19well 30 years after i sold the other one i saw that one come up on Matthewson's website
34:25they seemed to think it was it was a cracker and i went down and had a look and they
34:29weren't wrong
34:31it was a case i had to have it
34:33i'd always said if i could find one that was it was a good condition one i'd have another one
34:40and i couldn't believe it when that came up
34:43i left 35,000 pounds
34:46hoping nobody would go anywhere near it
34:49unfortunately somebody else was of the view that they had to have it
34:53and they must have left 30, 30 and a half something like that
34:59so it cost me 31
35:01but i'm not bothered
35:03it's a brand new car to all intents and purposes
35:08and i love the bits
35:09it's all obviously been garaged
35:11because particularly with the reds they sit out in the sun they fade eventually
35:17but that one hasn't faded at all so it has been kept under cover
35:20which has done it a lot of favours
35:26oh they're very good to drive
35:28they're quite quick
35:29well they were quick in the day
35:32and they're still not a slow car
35:34and they handle very very well
35:37i think that's why a lot of boys used to rally them and things like that
35:40because they're quite good on cornering and things like that
35:44it's just a joy to drive really
35:47somewhere around 8, 8 and a half seconds to 60
35:50which was quick back in the day
35:53but it's not slow now
35:54so it's er...
35:56you know, you can keep up with anything on the roads
36:01it's just a lovely thing that
36:02to own, to drive
36:05there's the memories as well, you know
36:06happy days
36:08but yeah, that one's going to stay with me for a long time
36:12and just drive around with a smile on my face
36:15until they take my licence off
36:20that's the second best car I've ever bought
36:22which was the first?
36:24there's your 205 GTA
36:27need AC or more
36:40but I've let him know that your offer's on the table so...
36:43no, no extra charges, it's all included in your entry fee
36:462,000 pounds to Mongolia
36:48is working in the desert and it's minus 16
36:52it takes all sorts
36:532,000 pounds
36:56provisionally, Mr Mongolia
36:59fantastic
37:05they're big, they're wide, they actually handle not too bad
37:08they're a bit floaty
37:09but they actually, because of the width of them
37:11they're a wide car and they actually handle quite well
37:15yeah, no, they're a good car, they're alright
37:17they're a good old car
37:20ah, now then, lock number 836
37:22sadly, Mark is no longer with us
37:25I'm sure Mark would rather be with us
37:26and he'd rather be driving his Rover on a nice day like today
37:29but sadly he isn't
37:31and Alastair's good friend has stepped in
37:33and he's handled the sound of the car for the family
37:35I ran one for a couple of years on and off
37:37an early V8 on carbs
37:39I think that was a six-cylinder one
37:41I think I haven't had a lot to do with this particular car to be honest
37:43but it looks a nice car on the face of it
37:46lovely car, not concourse
37:47there you go, there you go
37:49indeed it does look a lovely car
37:50not a concourse but a lovely, lovely car
37:52just the type of car that you'd like to own
37:55so for you Mark, thanks ever so much mate
37:58we'll do our best for you
37:59so the Rover, yeah, the Vandam Plaria
38:01we have got £6,000 there
38:04we've got £6,000, £6,250, £6,500, £750, £7,000
38:08you can argue they're probably underrated
38:12underrated car
38:13them, Granadas, all that sort of thing
38:16you know, Granadas do more money than Rovers for some reason
38:20Ford, that's why, innit?
38:21just shows, doesn't it, good ones do good money
38:23and £250, £9,250, £9,350, £9,450, £9,450
38:29are we done?
38:31there we go, at £9,550

38:35at £9,650 we've got
38:39£9,750 in Devon
38:41£9,850
38:42are we all done?
38:43making sure I'm missing no one
38:45at £9,850
38:49£9,850
38:51there you go, £9,850
38:54it's not bad money really, was it?
38:56all in all, it's a happy ending
38:58for the rather lovely Rover
39:00it was bought by Nigel Mead
39:02from Northamptonshire
39:03who recently pressed it into service
39:06as a colleague's wedding car
39:15I've got a nice Jaguar I enjoy driving
39:19over on the Essex coast
39:21Tony Blunden
39:22has been patiently building up a tidy collection of motors
39:26that he's been restoring bit by bit
39:28I got the Jaguar from Mastersons not so long ago
39:31but I've done a lot on it
39:34quite a bit of chrome work missing off of it
39:36and bits and pieces missing off of it
39:38which I've located and done
39:40I just keep myself busy
39:42doing bits and pieces on them all
39:44the 1962 Mark II
39:46is definitely a head turner
39:49and so is this one
39:51a 1958 Hillman Minx convertible
39:55bought it from Derek about 4 or 5 years ago I think
39:58you've got pictures of it then
40:00and it's a little bit different now
40:03very very attractive old thing
40:04got the makings of a lovely car
40:07look at that, the way the seat goes
40:09to gain access to the back
40:11it's lovely isn't it
40:12the last time we saw the Minx in Whitby
40:14well, it was a shell of its current self
40:17the engine didn't run
40:18the gearbox wasn't connected
40:2290% of the interior was missing off of it
40:24no bumpers, no lights, no nothing
40:27it's taken me a good 4 years
40:30to get to this stage
40:31but I was waiting for bits and pieces to come
40:33like the door panels and all that
40:35I wanted to get the original stuff for it
40:37all the inner seals, outer seals
40:40absolutely pristine
40:41you just can't buy them like this
40:44which brings us nicely onto Tony's latest acquisition
40:48a 1962 Triumph Vitesse
40:51that used to belong to a bus driver from Bolton
40:54I only finished it under two days ago
40:56and I'm going to take it out for a ride in a bit
40:58and hopefully if it drives as nice as I think it's going to
41:02then I'll spend some time on the body work
41:05and get the paint work done and sort it out
41:07it's called Triumph White
41:10Triumph 19 it's called
41:12it's got the colour code
41:13it's got the black stripe down it which I like
41:16Triumph Vitesse, see
41:20there's so much paperwork, it's unbelievable
41:22even the old brown logbook with it
41:24loads and all the MOTs, stacks of MOTs
41:35the engine's sound, it's got the oomph in it hasn't it
41:38six cylinder in a small car, it's like a sports car apparently
41:44they do handle well, very well
41:46it's a notey thing on the Triumph Terrell
41:48turn on a sixpence, which you can do
41:51there's no luxuries in them at all in the old cars
41:54but, think yourself lucky if the windscreen wipers work
41:59I'm happy with the car
42:01I'll keep it and
42:02same as I do with all the others
42:04I can't drive them all can I?
42:07but I've got to carry on doing work
42:09keep yourself busy
42:13that's it
42:13there we go
42:16sound as a pound yeah
42:17absolutely sound as a pound
42:19all over
42:20the Vitesse just needs a paint job
42:23with all the work being carefully chronicled
42:25by Tony's granddaughter, Renee
42:28she's always drawing
42:30it's come to a classic car show with me
42:32and she draws all the classic cars
42:34and she's sitting there while I'm working out in the garage here
42:37she's sitting and drawing me
42:38because they've got lines, the new cars
42:40they've not really got lines in them have they?
42:42although she didn't like
42:43you're not too keen on the spoke wheels are you?
42:46yeah
42:47in the meantime
42:48it's back to the drawing board for Tony
42:51as he searches out his next project
42:54and
42:54did we mention
42:56that he likes a sing song?
42:59don't think you're kind of neat
43:01we'll ask you where we come from
43:04and he ain't being sweet
43:07thank you lot
