00:00four of their starters and they
00:02hope to start getting back soon
00:03including Joel Embiid maybe by
00:06the end of this road trip so
00:10now our walk off interview
00:11brought to you by Metro by T
00:13Mobile.
00:14Here's Grant Christian you had
00:16fourteen points yourself in the
00:18first half but really is your
00:19team dropping twenty dimes that
00:21really caught my eye.
00:22What does that say about your
00:23offense.
00:24That's happening.
00:24We're moving the ball and that's
00:25kind of what this team does.
00:26That's what we're known for.
00:27We're getting stops to move the
00:28ball really well.
00:29So got to continue to get
00:30stops and continue to score.
00:31Speaking of stops you held the
00:32Sixers with forty points in the
00:34first half.
00:35How do you continue that
00:35suffocating defense to close this
00:37one out.
00:37Just got to do it again.
00:38Stay consistent.
00:38I feel like that's what we
00:39struggle with.
00:39We let teams back in and so I've
00:41got to be consistent in the
00:41second half and play well.
00:43Thanks man.
00:43Appreciate it.
00:44All right.
00:44Let's go back to Maria in the
00:46studio.
00:46All right.
00:47Appreciate it Grant.
00:48Coming up with the American
00:49Express at the half.
00:50Maria Taylor at the Hall of
00:50Famers.
00:51We're taking you around the
00:52association to show you what's
00:53been going on on an NBA Tuesday
00:55night.
01:05Welcome back to NBA Showtime.
01:06Take a look.
01:07The Cavs they got the win
01:08earlier against the Bucs.
01:09You can see Minnesota playing
01:10without Ant-Man.
01:11They still get the win against
01:12the Suns and Wimby told y'all
01:1560 wins.
01:16That's the new goal for the
01:17Spurs right now.
01:18They have 14 games to pull it
01:19off.
01:19They have 50 wins so far.
01:20We'll see whether or not they
01:21pull it off.
01:22Maria Taylor, Tracy McGrady's
01:23taking notes on a game we're not
01:25going to talk about.
01:25Vince Carter and Carmelo Anthony
01:27is drawing pictures on the box
01:29score.
01:29It looks like a cube.
01:30We're going to go around the
01:32association.
01:32Y'all ready?
01:33Please, let's go.
01:33Y'all ready?
01:34Because I'm on one right now.
01:36Let's go.
01:38Pete and the Hornets.
01:40Come on, the Melo.
01:40The Hornets, baby.
01:41Let's go.
01:42This is your highlight, T-Mac.
01:43This is all you.
01:43Listen.
01:44Okay.
01:44These guys have been playing
01:46great basketball since the
01:47break.
01:48They're on a 19 of that last 25.
01:50You're right.
01:51You're right.
01:51And they're getting it from
01:53everybody.
01:53You know what I'm saying?
01:54Like Melo.
01:55What's up?
01:56Little Melo.
01:56Bridges, LaMelo.
01:58Knipple.
01:59Yep.
01:59Miller.
02:00Like, oh, my gosh.
02:02Guess what?
02:03The Hornets' Nets.
02:03Oh, I know they in there
02:05rocking, baby.
02:06They in there rocking.
02:08LaMelo Ball, 30 points,
02:0913 assists.
02:10We see you with the and one.
02:12730-point game of the season.
02:13Con Knipple, 22 points.
02:14Leads the NBA with three-pointers.
02:16Another one.
02:16Ricky Eddie.
02:17Another one.
02:18Ricky Eddie.
02:19The Hornets are certainly rolling.
02:21They get that.
02:21You rolling, Mac.
02:23You rolling, Mac.
02:23Come on.
02:24Okay, see you in the magic.
02:25This is all you, bud.
02:26No, you don't want this.
02:27Okay, well, this is a technical foul.
02:29If your shoe falls off and you're Alex Caruso,
02:31you cannot then play defense with the shoe.
02:33Caruso, you can't do that.
02:34You can't do that.
02:35I didn't know how to really relay that message right there.
02:38You didn't know the transition.
02:39You didn't have the transition.
02:40No, that's fine.
02:40Yeah, I didn't have that.
02:41Okay, now you got Paulo.
02:43He's playing better.
02:4432 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists in this one.
02:46Yeah, Paulo has played well since the All-Star break as well.
02:50I'm happy to see him getting downhill more instead of settling.
02:54That's what the magic team needs.
02:56Yeah.
02:56But this is a tough out.
02:57I mean, you got Shea out there averaging, you know, 32 points and going crazy.
03:01His sixth 40-point game of the season, matter-of-factly, they get the win.
03:06Pistons taking on the Wizards here.
03:08Oh, this is scary right here.
03:09We okay, this is okay.
03:11Can't lose him.
03:12I like the pressure.
03:13And I love the hustle, but at this point, you have the number one seed secure.
03:17We don't need you diving on the floor like that.
03:19First quarter, this goes down.
03:21He's setting it to him.
03:22He has back spazers, yeah.
03:24See him now?
03:24We believe it happened, then.
03:25We'll keep an eye on that, the injury updates.
03:27You're right.
03:28But then Durant takes over.
03:29Jalen Durant takes over completely.
03:30Man child.
03:31Mm-hmm.
03:32Yes, yes.
03:33A career-high 36 points.
03:34Y'all got 12 rebounds in this one.
03:37DraftKings player tonight right here.
03:38J.B., he's hot lead.
03:39He didn't DraftKings player tonight.
03:40Yeah, give him the crown.
03:41Yeah, Durant.
03:42They get the win, 130-117.
03:45Man, what's your Knicks doing tonight, bro?
03:46Pacers and Knicks, all you.
03:47What's that for us?
03:48Jose came to play tonight.
03:50He had a job's hard.
03:51I'll take that with you.
03:52Three.
03:53Bang.
03:54They came to play tonight.
03:55You know, the game's a little close early.
03:57Yeah.
03:58But the Knicks did what they supposed to do.
03:59Josh Hart, if you doing this, Josh Hart,
04:01this is special.
04:02Friend of the show.
04:03You might as well put the Knicks in the finals
04:04if Josh Hart is doing pulling the-
04:06Pulling the tray like that.
04:08Yeah, OG.
04:09OG, you got one and one.
04:10Footwork too slow.
04:11Yeah, that's Zubac.
04:13That's Zubac.
04:14Come on, Zoo.
04:15And Josh Hart, where we at?
04:17Let me tell you something.
04:18Hart over Matt.
04:19Yeah, Hart over Hype right there, baby.
04:2133 points, five for five from three.
04:23Listen, Knicks talked that talk against the Pacers.
04:25They did, they did.
04:26You know, we got something against the Pacers.
04:28Knicks got something against the Pacers.
04:29Let's check out the leaders for our King of the Court
04:31from DraftKings Sportsbook.
04:33Who's got the most points, rebounds,
04:34and assists across the association?
04:36You see it.
04:36Jalen Duren, you already saw it?
04:37Yes, yes.
04:38Dropped a career-high 36 points
04:40against the Wizards with Cade Cunningham going out.
04:43So he gets the crown.
04:45Right now, the Denver Nuggets,
04:46all y'all can take the crown wherever you want to take it.
04:49Up 32 points right now against the 76ers at home.
04:51You get a three, and you get a three,
04:52and you get a three.
04:54Come on down.
04:57A powerful backing of American Express.
05:00Hey, Jordan.
05:01Our team versus any team anywhere at all times, right?
05:06Y'all can get it.
05:07And we on the road, too.
05:08We on the, wherever you want us to be.
05:09We'll be there.
05:10That's where we at.
05:10We on the road.
05:11We going to TD Garden, actually.
05:12If you want to meet us there.
05:14We'll see you Sunday.
05:15Jason Tatum, Jalen Brown.
05:17We will not have Ant-Man,
05:18but Julius Randle just stepped up tonight.
05:21We got basketball in America at 7 Eastern on Sunday,
05:24and you're going to be able to watch the Timberwolves
05:26and the Celtics.
05:27Make sure you join us.
05:28Y'all, I did make the free throw.
05:30You did.
05:31Gabe 2 and Trust presented by American Express.
05:33You know who we've come to truly trust?
05:34Russell Westbrook.
05:35That's a fact.
05:36Okay, fifth on the all-time assist list
05:39and continuing to climb.
05:40Moving on up.
05:41You might as well get ready to change that logo
05:44right there from Sacramento.
05:46You see Steve Nash logo?
05:47You see John Stockton logo?
05:48Yeah, yeah.
05:49You see J.K. logo?
05:50Yeah.
05:50That's what's Russ going to look at.
05:51Aw, the Hall of Fame.
05:53Russell be there.
05:54I love that.
05:55You get a three.
05:56You get a three.
05:57Up 32 the first half of the Denver Nuggets.
06:00Please fight everybody.
06:02Fight.
06:03Appropriate halftime entertainment on this day.
06:05Some Ira step dancing being done here on the court in Denver.
06:09And a happy St. Patrick's Day to you all.
06:11From Terrence Patrick Gannon to everybody out there.
06:14Terry Gannon back with Derek Fisher.
06:15I know the Sixers are shorthanded, but that was one impressive first half from Denver.
06:21Yeah.
06:21Clicking on all cylinders.
06:22And Terry, I don't know how many hands of spades you played in your lifetime,
06:27but when you have a joker in your hand, you can always pull that card.
06:32And you see Nikola Jokic just spraying the ball around, making his teammates better.
06:38Teammates enjoying the love that he shares on St. Patrick's Day.
06:41When he was on the floor, he controlled the entire game.
06:45And he's only got two points.
06:47He's one of three in the first half with the assists brought to you by State Farm.
06:52So he's got 10 assists in the game, 12 assists for the Philadelphia 76ers tonight.
06:58And it just speaks to an awareness of, like there's a humility in his greatness.
07:04And he recognizes he's part of a team fabric and that all these guys on this team
07:09are important to the success they're going to have.
07:12And so on a night like tonight where he can spray it
07:14and not have to try and step on the gas himself,
07:17it's a selfless thing to do because it's a choice.
07:21He doesn't have to do it.
07:22Good first possession of this second half for the Sixers.
07:25Dembona with the bucket.
07:27So 72 to 42.
07:29We'll see how much time Jokic gets in this second half.
07:33Things got a little tense there in that first half.
07:36He picked up a technical foul, went back and forth with Drummond a couple of times.
07:40That's this one fly, barely catches the rim.
07:43So here comes Vijay Edgecombe leading the way with four fouls he picked up in the first half.
07:50If you are Nick Nurse, you send one to your team at halftime.
07:54It's about the habits and this collection of guys on the floor.
07:58It's about building habits as a pro player.
08:01And so the score is irrelevant.
08:03Like when you call actions, run them, your screened angles, the timing,
08:07the passes should still be on time and on target.
08:09The defensive communication should be the same regardless of the score.
08:13Murray somehow got it to Johnson in the corner.
08:16He throws it up there and never brought it down.
08:17That's another three.
08:19And that's what they did in the first half.
08:21He's six of seven for the game with 15 points.
08:2718 points, excuse me.
08:30Justin Edwards left alone on that switch.
08:34Got it.
08:35They could use more of that here in the second half.
08:38I was just about to say how quiet it was defensively for the Nuggets.
08:42And then, boom, you have a mistake where two guys don't communicate.
08:46And then Justin Edwards ends up with a wide open three.
08:51Murray around the Jokic screen.
08:53Gets by Bona.
08:54Takes it away up top.
08:56Blocked by a net.
08:59Edgko lays it off.
09:01Grimes high off the glass.
09:02Some positive things here to open up the third for the Sixers.
09:06Starting with great defense.
09:08And again, this Sixers group with this collection of guys,
09:11he's going to have to score the basketball in the open floor.
09:15That's a strong move by Brown and the finish.
09:18He's got 16 in the game.
09:26A whistle and an offensive foul as we send it over to Grant.
09:30Yeah, I spoke with Nuggets assistant J.J. Borea at halftime.
09:33And he told me that they really want the team to put the pedal to the metal
09:35right out the gates and really come out with high effort
09:38these first five minutes of the third quarter.
09:40So hopefully they can rest some guys later on in this game
09:43because they are on the front end of the back-to-back tonight, guys.
09:47And a whistle at this end.
09:49Yeah, they go to Memphis.
09:52So back-to-back tonight and then on the road.
09:55Yeah, I mean, they'll probably get into Memphis.
09:57They'll lose an hour in terms of the time.
09:59Yeah, it'll probably be 3 a.m.
10:01Before they get to their hotel and right back at it.
10:05And Coach Adelman is continuing to explore the different lineups
10:10and opportunities he's going to have to continue looking at this team
10:13as they round themselves in the playoff shape.
10:16He got to come in the air and guess what?
10:18Just picked up his fifth.
10:20Wow.
10:21Five fouls on V.J. Ed's.
10:30Joe L.M.B., who the Sixers hope is very close to returning off that oblique string.
10:42I mean, it wasn't long ago.
10:46Jokic and Jokic and Embiid were MVP guys.
10:50I mean, every year for a couple years there, it was between those two guys.
10:55Yeah.
10:56You know, whichever one was healthiest, which has been Jokic.
10:59He's the one that won.
11:00And this year, when he has played, like the last 21 games he's played,
11:05he's averaged almost 30 points a game.
11:08And he's playing at a high level.
11:09It's just that he hasn't had much time on the court.
11:13Or not nearly enough time for the Sixers' liking.
11:21In fact, Maxey, Embiid, and George only, since the start of last season,
11:27only 32 games together.
11:29Bona, a strong rebound.
11:31And will go to the free throw line.
11:37I mean, it's just been one of those things.
11:38You build your franchise around, say, that trio, and you add to it, yes.
11:44But when you can't count on that, it's awfully tough to be competitive.
11:48And they have been competitive.
11:58And, again, Nick Nurse and his staff continue to try and get the best out of this group,
12:03even while they're struggling with injuries.
12:05By the way, this week on Sunday Night Basketball, it's the Wolves heading to Boston
12:09to take on the Celtics, 7 Eastern on NBC and Peacock.
12:13And starting April 19th, the NBA playoffs, coming to NBC and Peacock.
12:20Approaching quickly.
12:23Still a lot to be decided, though.
12:25So, coming into this game, you think about the Sixers and where they are.
12:31Yes, the number nine seed, but things are crowded there.
12:34Game and a half away from that sixth seed.
12:37Now, this continues this way tonight.
12:39That changes.
12:40But they've got two more games on this road trip that are again.
12:43They're certainly welcome.
12:45Quick bucket at the other end, the bar.
12:49Got at Sacramento on Thursday and then Saturday at Utah.
12:54Yeah, I mean, as you stated, both conferences, a lot to still be decided
12:59in terms of, you know, the middle of the pack in particular, in terms of seeding.
13:05No doubt.
13:06Oh, what a wraparound pass from Murray in the foolish fight round.
13:09What a great look.
13:15Yeah, those seeds, three through six in the West, only a couple of games separating them.
13:24Watch Jamal Murray here, Terry, operating guard-to-guard, pick-and-roll.
13:28Christian Brown does a great job getting out of it, getting below Barlow,
13:32and then a quick finish before Bona can come over.
13:36So, Jokic picking up the foul at this end.
13:39And that's his third.
13:43Reminder this weekend, a field of the PGA Tours, the league,
13:46taking on the daunting snake pit, one of golf's most difficult three-hole stretches
13:50at the Valspar Championship.
13:52Great field bet, too, as a matter of fact.
13:54Don't miss live coverage Saturday and Sunday at 3 Eastern on NBC and Peacock.
14:00I will see you there.
14:01Terry, get your popcorn ready for the Valspar,
14:03as well as for Drummond and Jokic to get back to these antics that they had in the first half.
14:08He's picking him up full court.
14:10Look at this.
14:13Yep, and talking the whole way, too.
14:20Drummond on the switch.
14:23So, it's Edwards stuck on Jokic.
14:26Finds Gordon in the corner.
14:28Again, the vision from Jokic.
14:30Great vision, but, I mean, Aaron Gordon, starting last season,
14:34but, I mean, when he returned from being out, like, the shooting was another level.
14:39And, I mean, I'm not comparing myself to Aaron Gordon by any means,
14:45but, in 2000, 2001, I had right foot and navicular fractures back-to-back after some time apart,
14:54six months of rehab each time.
14:56And, coming off of that timeout, like, I made a significant jump as a catch-and-shoot player
15:03because when you have lower extremity injuries, you can't move as much.
15:07That's a great point.
15:08And, so, I can relate to Aaron making the decision that he can help his team
15:13by becoming just a great knockdown shooter, and he's put the time into working.
15:17By necessity, having to make that adjustment.
15:20That's a great point.
15:21By the way, a rare sight tonight.
15:23Jokic with another bucket.
15:24He's got four points in the game.
15:28With a look at inside stats brought to you by Salesforce.
15:32We were talking about Joel Embiid.
15:33His career with the Sixers, 485 games played.
15:38This, not a positive, 467 games missed.
15:42Now, you remember the first two years coming out of college, though?
15:45Yeah, and it seems like those first couple years he missed a ton of games.
15:49And then, as you can see here, the last three years he's missed a lot of games.
15:53And, so, there was some health and consistency in the middle that, you know,
15:58had him in that MVP conversation year in and year out.
16:01But, as you see on the hoodie there, the process continues.
16:05And everybody's journey is different.
16:07And there's no question when he's on the court, his team and the league are in a better shape.
16:12So, 21 and 12 this season with him.
16:15Yeah, he missed those entire first two seasons.
16:18Edge come back on the floor with the five fouls.
16:21He's going to use the screen.
16:22Free throw line, jumper, can't get the roller.
16:26And Jokic with a rebound.
16:28He's got 12 assists in the game.
16:30And he's two of five from the floor.
16:33He's only taking five shots tonight.
16:39So, my opinion, as the shot clock runs down here, I'll come back to it.
16:44You're good.
16:45It's 85 to 55.
16:46Ha, ha, ha.
16:49I think David Adelman is, like the score, says these guys shouldn't still be in the game in some ways.
17:00They play tomorrow night.
17:01It's a veteran team.
17:03Jamal Murray's already banged up.
17:04But he still needs to see this combination of guys on the floor together for a few more minutes.
17:10What actions are they going to run if Christian Brown sets a screen on Aaron Gordon's guy?
17:16They switch.
17:17How many times Jokic throws it up court to Brown?
17:20He gets an easy look?
17:21Yeah, I mean, he can do that no matter what lineup.
17:23No, it's a good point you're making.
17:24Right now, you're getting a feel for every lineup you put out there.
17:28However you can change, but including your starting lineup, you're getting that feel
17:32because they've so rarely been together this year.
17:35Yes.
17:36Great point.
17:37Agreed.
17:39Well, that was your point, so I'm glad you agreed.
17:42Gordon operating, using his body so strong.
17:45Can't get it to go this time.
17:49They're looking for that production from Christian Brown.
17:52He's got it tonight.
17:52He's got 20 points in the game, and so I missed one shot.
17:55It's seven of eight.
17:59Defense by Murray.
18:00Going to be called for the foul, though.
18:03It's his second.
18:06Jokic again in transition.
18:09Up ahead to Christian Brown.
18:11I mean, again, man, when your best player has his eyes up as often as he does,
18:16and he'll reward you with additional effort in that way,
18:20guys are going to run the floor and get out behind the defense.
18:23And doesn't that, yeah, lead to more effort by the other players,
18:27knowing that if you make that effort, it's not going to be wasted most of the time.
18:31Which is key, a major key, to getting guys to consistently sprint the floor and transition on offense,
18:38but can also be committed to splitting the floor in terms of transition defense as well.
18:43Lowry back on the floor.
18:45Drops it for Drummond.
18:46And tipped it up, kept it alive, Andre Drummond.
18:49No, keeps going at it, just can't get it.
18:54Jokic, Brown, Hardaway, Spencer Jones.
19:01They run it down.
19:02It's a great look, great pass by Hardaway Jr.
19:05Probably could have shot his corner three, but passed up a good one to get a break for Spencer Jones.
19:11They thought about it, had it taken away by Brown.
19:16Marlowe over Jokic, got it.
19:19Here's the other point about some of these Sixers players that are getting time during these injuries.
19:24In some ways, it's bigger than this season.
19:27Yes, you now have guys who have had experience as you look ahead to a playoff run, hopefully,
19:33but also just in terms of their careers, proving themselves when they get the chance.
19:38As Jokic, off the wrong foot, gets it to go.
19:41Yes, I mean, the financial commitment made to Embiid, George, Maxie,
19:47you're going to have to have a level of versatility and turnover around those guys.
19:52And so young players that can scratch and carve out some opportunity is going to be key.
19:57Quick first step, bucket by Grimes, and I think that Adelman was just teed up.
20:02Yeah, he did like the fact that Jokic didn't get a whistle down on this end.
20:07And then, kind of a tiki-tack, Jokic slapped him on the arm,
20:11but it didn't really impact the player at all, so Adelman just letting the referees know
20:17they wanted to look out for his big fella.
20:23And you're going to keep coaching to the end, no matter what the score is, too.
20:27You sure are.
20:30That's the job.
20:31Comes with it.
20:33He's been around the game a long time, seen so much.
20:36Obviously, his dad, an amazing coach and great person.
20:40And, you know, Dave's done a great job here stepping in in Denver
20:44and continuing to extend that Adelman legacy.
20:49Interesting, we were talking to him about that before the game, too.
20:53And in a general sense, the takeaway of the conversation is that he learned much more about his dad
21:00and coaching from the adversity than from the success and the wins.
21:07Jokic with the spin in the lane and the bucket and how to handle that as an NBA coach.
21:12And it ties to the point you're making about how long NBA seasons can be
21:16and the adversity and the ups and downs and being able to see his dad handle hard things
21:21and figure out how to balance even his life off the court, you know,
21:26spending time with his son, bringing his son to practice, et cetera.
21:29Those are all things that left a great impression on him,
21:31and it's a part of his leadership style here as a head coach.
21:35Hardaway over Grimes.
21:38Drummond gives off the paint.
21:39Yeah, I mean, he was in a locker room from the time he was seven years old.
21:43I mean, since the time he was seven years old, he's been in NBA locker rooms.
21:49That's pretty special.
21:50He also...
21:53Brown couldn't finish this time.
21:55He also talked about how some of the teams I played on.
22:00I mean, he specifically said me, but he added, I think, I don't know his name as well.
22:05No, he was talking about you mostly.
22:09We were part of some of those adverse situations that his dad experienced at times.
22:16And learning from those.
22:17Yes.
22:17And you causing some of those.
22:19Yes.
22:19Yes.
22:20It was my job to...
22:22It was my job to cause those at that time.
22:26I mean, you think about the numbers and they'll look back on all the success they've had tonight.
22:31But the plus minus is, well, every nugget is plus one or more.
22:34All ten guys.
22:36The left plus, excuse me, plus 11 or more.
22:38And early on, I mean, you look at the minutes played and it just has grown now.
22:44I mean, double figures all down the lineup.
22:49What a pass.
22:59Drummond looking for somebody.
23:05Bojan, got it.
23:08Still really quiet defensively for the Nuggets.
23:11I'm surprised by that.
23:13Even though the score is what it is.
23:15Defensive communication is vital.
23:18You know, championship success.
23:20Playoff runs, etc.
23:22Another great pass to Bruce Brown in the corner.
23:26Who had something to say to the Sixers bench.
23:31And he got blank stares back.
23:34No reaction.
23:36Drummond for three.
23:37Deep corner.
23:44Said 23 of those this year.
23:48Bo-champ not shy.
23:50Going to get that shot up.
23:52And successful again.
23:55It's similar to Camp Payne.
23:58Bo-champ a young guy that's been in and out of the league a little bit.
24:03You know, keep working and keep finding opportunities to show what you can do.
24:08Knocks down a couple threes for the Sixers.
24:10Three for three on the night beyond the arc.
24:12The foul on Drummond.
24:14We get a break.
24:1494-69.
24:16United Airlines.
24:17Christian Brown with 20 in the game.
24:20Derek.
24:21He is a key piece for the Denver Nuggets.
24:24Nights like tonight where he sees the ball going in.
24:27Good cut there.
24:30It's great to have a teammate.
24:32Then Nikola Jokic dropping it off to him.
24:35Five of six from two.
24:36Two out of three from three.
24:38He won't score 20 points every night.
24:40But his timely offense is going to be vital to their postseason.
24:43I was going to say, there was a theme to that highlight reel, too.
24:45It was Jokic feeding him on all of those.
24:49And Nikola with 14 assists in the game.
24:54Hardaway takes it away.
24:55Up to Brown.
24:56Great timing on the pass.
24:58They'll go to the free throw line.
25:03So, Kyle Lowry picks up the foul as Jokic gets a rest.
25:12A good defensive activity there by Hardaway Jr.
25:15Stand with the play.
25:16And then Christian Brown, man.
25:18He puts his foot in the ground quick and gets out.
25:21It's a transition offense ahead of the defense.
25:24Julian Straubel set to check in.
25:27And will.
25:29Valanchunis on the floor now.
25:30So, the different looks that David Adelman is getting here with his lineups.
25:36And also, we'll take a look and has taken a look at a smaller lineup, too.
25:40Jones playing the five.
25:42And the different options that they're going to have come playoff time.
25:46Yes, the different lineup options they'll have.
25:49And there'll also be some guys that will lose out on some minutes,
25:54which is common as you get into the postseason.
25:56The rotation tightens a little bit.
25:58The minutes shorten some.
26:00But the versatility and the depth that they have this season is much better than it was a season ago.
26:06It's there.
26:07And it was there anyway.
26:08But it's even more tested after all the injuries, too.
26:13To the foul.
26:17Drummond picks up.
26:19Is fourth.
26:24And round two, the free-throw line.
26:3376% from the line this year.
26:36Now, look at the upcoming national TV schedule tomorrow on ESPN.
26:40Warriors taking on the Celtics.
26:41And then it's the Lakers and the Rockets.
26:44Thursday on NBA TV, Magic and the Hornets.
26:46For more on these games, go to NBA.com or visit the NBA app.
26:54So, under a minute to go here in the third.
26:57And it's continued pretty much the way that it's gone from the start.
27:02I'll tell you what, there have been seasons where certain matchups in terms of playing or playoffs and seeding.
27:11Not that teams were necessarily ducking matchups, but feeling better if they were in a particular spot.
27:19So, that you stayed away from certain teams.
27:22And I don't know if that could apply this season, to be honest, Terry.
27:27I mean, seeing the Charlotte Hornets in a playing game would be fun.
27:31Yeah, yeah, yeah.
27:32I mean, it's that much competitiveness throughout the league.
27:36Throughout the league.
27:36Yeah.
27:37Defense three seconds at this end, by the way.
27:39So, as close as it is right now, say in the West, and we talk about those spots, after the
27:45top two spots.
27:47A lot matters, though, where you end up positioning, starting the playoffs.
27:53Drummond with the miss.
27:54And whatever matchup you're going to get.
27:57So, as I ask you to make predictions for the playoffs, it's a little difficult because it so much depends
28:03on matchups.
28:04Definitely depends on matchups.
28:08Even though it's different now, home court is still vital.
28:12You want that opportunity to get the series started off with a quality win.
28:18Historically, teams are better at home.
28:20You want that advantage.
28:22And so, a top four seed always gets you at least off to a good start and gives you a
28:28chance to win in advance.
28:30Spencer Jones picks up the foul after Valanchunas put him over the century mark here in the third.
28:39But as it stands today, the Rockets and Nuggets are a 4-5 matchup.
28:45Yep.
28:46The Lakers and Timberwolves are a 3-6 matchup.
28:49That's how it stands right now.
28:53It didn't all change, yes.
28:54But, yeah.
28:56Those four teams might shuffle, but those matchups are not going to change very much.
29:00And that's up to date in the moment.
29:03So, they're half a game behind the field.
29:05But that's obviously with the win.
29:06That chance they came in as the five seed and would be tied in that spot.
29:13It's a lot of fun, Terry.
29:15The top two in the West.
29:17And, by the way, I'm going to continue to pick your brain in the next quarter.
29:20We've got another quarter here.
29:22Have pretty much been set for a while.
29:26OKC and San Antonio.
29:28San Antonio obviously has gotten better and better as the season has gone on.
29:31But, end of the third, and it's been all Denver, 100-71.
29:37You're watching Coast to Coast Tuesday, presented by Kia.
29:48Peacock.
29:49Check out Peacock Performance View.
29:51A whole new way to watch with real-time stats, live shot data, and player tracking.
29:56Dive deeper into the action on Peacock.
30:01A lot of different ways to watch these things.
30:03Yeah, that's smart, though.
30:04I think a lot of young kids, what that looks like NBA 2K26.
30:08Oh, yeah.
30:09So, like, young kids watching the game might feel like that's real.
30:13No doubt.
30:14Alan Tuna's battle couldn't get it to go.
30:16So, 100-71 to open up the fourth quarter.
30:20Bo-Champ forcing the issue high off the glass and in, and then yells at the official.
30:24Oh, delay of game warning as he knocked the ball away.
30:29But, he's been active.
30:30He's been aggressive on the offensive end, no doubt about it.
30:33He has, and the Sixers have won that third quarter.
30:36I mean, again, if you're Nick Nurse, you're just trying to get them to focus on small,
30:41immediate goals of, can we win this quarter?
30:43Can we win the next two minutes?
30:45And they won the third quarter.
30:46Bo-Champ with 11 in the game since coming off the bench.
30:51Kyle Lowry in there along with Payne, Drummond, Bo-Champ, and Watford.
30:56Payne lets it fly.
30:57Nope.
31:03Bruce Brown directs the offense in Dallas.
31:05Eunice along with Hardaway, Spencer Jones, and Strother, and a foul.
31:10And Hardaway will go to the free-throw line.
31:15Watford second.
31:20Yeah, that's, even in this situation, like, fouling a mid-range, non-paint jump shooter is just difficult to do.
31:29I think, you know, Watford's trying to be active defensively, but reaching in and fouling.
31:35Yeah, as well.
31:36Smarts.
31:36Reminder, one of the biggest film events of the year will hit theaters next month,
31:40as Mario and his friends travel across entire galaxies to stop Bowser Jr. from destroying the universe as we know
31:47it.
31:47It's the Super Mario Galaxy movie, only in theaters April 1st.
31:54Played a lot of Super Mario Brothers on rainy days back in the day with my Nintendo.
32:00You're going back now.
32:02Dealing Terry in for the Sixers.
32:06Oh, Chad.
32:08Looking to score every time down and does again.
32:11He's got 13 in the game.
32:16Mo Champ's a good young player.
32:18Long, athletic, confident offensively.
32:21Good look down to Jones from Brown.
32:35Drummond, open Valanciunas.
32:38Brown, high into the air to clear.
32:40Okay, we've been talking about the West a little bit and looking ahead to the playoffs.
32:45How do you see the East as Valanciunas doesn't get the shooter's role,
32:51especially with Boston now getting Tatum back?
32:55I mean, I want to start with the Pistons.
32:58They're number one seed, of course, but the job J.B. Bickerstaff and his staff has done,
33:03there's just, it's impressive.
33:07Having home court throughout in the East will be a great advantage for them.
33:11But the Celtics, I mean, Joe Mazzullo, again,
33:15there are tons of coaches that have done phenomenal jobs this year.
33:19But for the Celtics to still be sitting in the two-spot in the East,
33:23which means they wouldn't have to see the Pistons until the Eastern Conference Finals,
33:27job well done.
33:29And then you get Jason Tatum,
33:31who adds an additional level of versatility both offensively and defensively to their team.
33:37I'm going back a ways in this season.
33:39I had a matchup between Detroit and Boston without Tatum, obviously.
33:44But that was a playoff atmosphere and intensity and passion in that game.
33:51It was a great matchup, even without Tatum, and now he's back.
33:56I mean, the Pistons, they deserve so much credit for, I mean, as an organization,
34:01when losing has become a part of so much of your experience,
34:06it's hard to turn that over and turn that around.
34:09And Kay Cunningham, as a young player, losing games early in his journey,
34:13but always kept winning habits from everything that you're hearing and seeing.
34:17And so for a coach to come in and blend some pieces that were already there,
34:23they added some key guys, and it's just been fun to watch their growth,
34:26and it's going to make the Eastern Conference playoffs really fun to watch as well.
34:30Tyus Jones just came in the game and missed at the other end.
34:34He's playing with his fourth team this season.
34:38Beauchamp in and out, and here comes Jones.
34:43Eleventh-year man out of Duke.
34:48You filled out your bracket yet, Terry?
34:51Yeah.
34:52I don't have the enthusiasm for it right now.
34:56My NC State team, when it was the first four, it got me.
35:00Oh, my, I didn't mean to bring that up tonight.
35:02I know, I know, and then Bill and Tunis will go to the free-throw line after the foul on
35:06drum.
35:14Will Wade had a good first year, though.
35:16Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
35:17Heading in the right direction.
35:19Yep.
35:21Give me the line now.
35:22Give me two.
35:31As we continue to see, I want to go back to the Eastern Conference really quickly.
35:35I mean, you know, the Hawks obviously have been ascending,
35:39and their schedule's been favorable, you know, in March,
35:42but they've won a lot of basketball games, and their confidence is growing.
35:47Jalen Johnson becoming an all-star level player.
35:50Jonathan Kamingo there now.
35:51Nikhil Alexander Walker playing good basketball.
35:54But the Charlotte Hornets, you know, they also, they deserve a mention in terms of just, again,
36:00when you've lost and your culture and your organization isn't accustomed to winning,
36:06it's hard to build those habits.
36:09And Charles Lee, new ownership group, you know, coaches from an office, they've continued to do a good job there
36:15in Charlotte.
36:16And Kyle Kahnippel.
36:17I was going to say, one of the bright young talents in the game as well.
36:20Yes.
36:21Doing what a great job having a great rookie season.
36:27So, Valanciunas to the line.
36:29Terry picked up the foul, and that's his fourth and the team's fourth here.
36:35Now, you're right about changing that mentality.
36:38Go back to Detroit, too.
36:39And they will tell you, whether it's the coaching staff or the players who were there,
36:43that if they hadn't gone through that season, they wouldn't be doing what they're doing right now.
36:48I mean, it was not only despite that, it was because of it, because of the experience of going through
36:53that.
36:53But, you know, we all try to avoid failure and stand away from, you know, the hard things.
37:00But you have to go through those things in order to improve, in order to grow, in order to get
37:05better,
37:06to appreciate the good times.
37:08And the Pistons certainly value that.
37:12You know, Trajan Langdon coming in and taking over on the management side
37:17has been a really positive development for the Pistons as well.
37:20So, there's just a lot of really great stories around the league in terms of coaches and teams
37:27building the right approach to winning games.
37:31Zeke Nagy just came in, just picked up the foul.
37:40Again, it's the first of a back-to-back, the first of two that this Denver does after this game.
37:49They need to play them tomorrow.
37:54And then come back home.
37:57Kick to the corner stronger.
38:01Dylan Chumas, did he get it off of Beauchamp?
38:03I believe he did.
38:05So, it stays at this end.
38:09So, I mentioned that schedule to Memphis and then come back home for Toronto and Portland
38:15and go on the road next Tuesday.
38:18The Suns in Dallas and Utah at home.
38:25We have 13 games left after tonight and just four road games that are left.
38:30So, in terms of that and positioning in the playoffs, positive outlook.
38:37A lot of time in your facility, sleeping in your own bed.
38:44Yep.
38:44You know, being able to recover more effectively compared to when you're out on the road and
38:49you're in and out of hotels and on airplanes.
38:52And it'll really give this team, as they get healthier, hopefully Peyton Watson returns soon,
38:57it'll really give them a window where they can continue to match and form the best version
39:02of who they need to be going into April.
39:05And Watson, a big part of what they've been doing, too.
39:07Fourth-year man out of UCLA, out with that hamstring injury.
39:11Missed the last 16 games.
39:13And they're hoping to have him back by the end of the week.
39:18Now she kept it alive.
39:21Throws you back out here.
39:23Brown.
39:25Sparther had it blocked by Watford.
39:28And then they threw it right to Najee.
39:32Good hustle, Boutman, Tudis.
39:36Swatted away in a whistle on a bounce.
39:42Tudis wanted to jump.
39:48Big fella just hustling.
39:50Goes into the crowd.
39:53Comes out with the basketball and flailing those arms.
39:56He wanted to whistle on that one.
40:00Jalen Pickett just came in.
40:02For Denver as well.
40:04And they got, I think, blood.
40:07Valanchunas got caught.
40:08Yep, there it is.
40:09So.
40:14I think we're going to add a fingernail policy to the league rules.
40:21There should be no, it should get measured before you leave the locker room.
40:27Is that what you're proposing tonight?
40:28That is what I'm proposing tonight.
40:31That doesn't look good.
40:32It does not.
40:34In terms of stopping the bleeding.
40:38Hopefully they have.
40:42Man's playing hard right now, though.
40:44He is.
40:45Veteran guy.
40:47You know, there was conversation around an opportunity he might have been able to take advantage of overseas.
40:53And questions around whether or not he'd come and be here for the Nuggets.
40:57And, you know, they value the contributions he's made throughout the season.
41:01There's going to be times going into the postseason where, you know, maybe his role isn't fully what he'd like
41:09it to be.
41:09But on a championship level team, everyone has to give up on something.
41:15And from what you see, he's a great teammate.
41:20Guys love playing with him.
41:21And he's going to enjoy being a part of this run.
41:24Paul Onagia is second as we get a break in the action.
41:28Step away with just under seven left here in Denver.
41:32Third pick in the 1996 NBA draft.
41:35The Denver Nuggets select Ephemius Regius from Pauk in Greece.
41:43With the 24th pick in the 1996 NBA draft, the Los Angeles Lakers select Derek Fisher from the University of
41:52Arkansas at Little Rock.
41:56That was the quote brought to by Liberty Mutual Insurance.
42:00I have one question.
42:01What were the Nuggets thinking?
42:04I mean, seriously, you had this man available in the next one.
42:07Oh, yeah.
42:07No, no, no.
42:08The Nuggets were thinking they needed somebody taller than six feet tall.
42:11You remember what you went through waiting for your name to be in?
42:16Yes, I do.
42:17It was very stressful.
42:18I had no idea if I was even going to get drafted at all.
42:21Better yet in the first round.
42:23And every guard name that got called, starting with Allen Iverson, who was the number one pick.
42:29But, you know, Stephon Marbury, Moochynor, Steve Nash.
42:32Pretty good names.
42:35And by the time you get down to 18, 19, 20, 21, the Knicks had three of those picks.
42:40And I thought the Knicks were interested.
42:42So, we get past 21, and I'm like, oh, I don't know if I'm getting drafted in the first round.
42:47So, I kind of started looking ahead.
42:50The Pistons really liked me at 25.
42:52So, we get to 24.
42:54David Stern starts saying with the 24 pick, Derek Battee.
42:58That's who you thought, as he said.
43:00That's who I thought he was about to say.
43:02And then he said, my name, and I absolutely lost it.
43:05Go, champ.
43:06The bucket at this end after the Tyus Jones bucket at the other end.
43:10You ever think about, I'm going to continue this because it's interesting to me, how your life would have been
43:15different had you been that 23rd pick.
43:17As opposed to where you ended up in all the success and winning five championships eventually.
43:23Yes, I do think about that often.
43:26And, you know, for young players, it's, you know, that's the difference sometimes.
43:31I mean, I wasn't better necessarily than other guys that didn't get drafted or got drafted higher or lower.
43:39It's just the situation, things aligned.
43:43I've always been about winning, and the Lakers were in a period of time where it was all about winning.
43:48And so it just, it matched, and the great Jerry West, God rest his soul, like he, his ability to
43:55put teams together and, you know, rolling the dice on Kobe, a kid out of high school that, it just,
44:02it all clicked.
44:04And I think about how fortunate and grateful that I am still now today to have had those experiences.
44:10Jones with another bucket at that end.
44:12He's been productive since coming off the bench, but then Barlow the dunk for Philadelphia at this end.
44:17It is scary when we think of our lives, whether it's sports or anything else, and how one little thing,
44:22this way or that way, can dictate everything after that.
44:25Yes, appreciate every moment.
44:27Yeah.
44:30Strother down low, tough to handle for Valanciunas.
44:34Wanted it up top.
44:36Wanted it, waits for Barlow, another dunk.
44:40Dominic Barlow averages about eight points per game for the Sixers this year.
44:46He's had a pretty good year, on pace for career highs, and points, rebounds, assists, minutes.
44:55Najee creates space in the lane.
44:59Gets it.
45:00Talk about Barlow, talk about players and opportunity.
45:03His journey started with the Spurs, or he had time in San Antonio with the Spurs.
45:09And so, you go there and you learn championship habits, winning habits, even if the team wasn't necessarily winning as
45:17many games at that time.
45:18So, now you come to Philadelphia, and you get this opportunity.
45:22Your ability to go out there and play the game the right way has already been ingrained because of where
45:26you started.
45:28Edwards with Bucket off the lead from Bochamp at this end, as this has turned into one of those here
45:34in the fourth.
45:39No, you're right, you learn how to win as well, and you think about guys who have success, or it's
45:45taken them a while, and you don't really think much about them, and they get in a winning franchise situation,
45:51and it clicks.
45:52It happens, it happens, it happens, when you're surrounded by those people who think that way, and have the habits.
46:00The habits are really the key.
46:02I mean, we oftentimes think of winning as a destination, or something that we're going towards, when in reality, winning
46:12is, it's a character that you must learn how to play every day.
46:17And so, before the team wins a title, you have to play the character of a winner every single day.
46:25That's how you build winning habits.
46:27It's not, we don't wait until we win to build winning habits.
46:30Right, right.
46:31That starts every single day.
46:33And every day counts.
46:35Every day counts.
46:35And every day builds on the one before, yeah.
46:38Fourth foul on Watford, by the way, sending Valanchunas to the line.
46:43Nugget shooting over 50% from the floor, and 48% from the three-point range.
46:53And the Sixers just 9 of 38 from beyond the arc tonight, 24%.
47:00It's a lot of fun, and the reach in on Pickett, his first.
47:07Another quick note, too, on, you know, when a team like the Sixers misses so many of their key guys,
47:13like, the things that the other players practice, like, working on their game, it's entirely different when you play next
47:20to Joel Embiid, Paul George, Tyrese Maxey, Kelly Oubre Jr.
47:24Right, so when they get thrust into situations where they've been practicing basically 3 and D, playing off the ball,
47:31being a great cutter, crashing the offensive boards, and then you get thrown into a game where we need you
47:36to run 35 pick and rolls, that's not what he's been working on.
47:39That's not what they do.
47:40That's not what they've been working on.
47:41Sacramento and Utah, those next two games of this road trip, so two games that they believe they can win.
47:47But if you can win two out of three on this road trip, it's a really successful road trip, and
47:51you're even better positioned getting those guys back.
47:55They hope to get and beat back very soon.
48:01Three-minute mark here in Denver.
48:05Dale and Terry goes baseline.
48:10Pickett trying to stay with Watford, uses his body and his strength off the glass.
48:14Good move by Watford.
48:17Better job being on balance.
48:18He's been off balance a couple times tonight, but good job using his size and strength and putting it high
48:24off the glass.
48:25Got 12 in the game tonight.
48:36Swing it eventually to the corner for Strother.
48:40There's like the shell drill.
48:42It's just everybody outside the three and going back and forth, making the defense move, and eventually they pick up
48:48the three, and they've got 120 points on 35 assists tonight.
48:54Patrick's Day, everybody.
48:55NFL legends Tom Brady is my guest tonight.
48:58Plus, we have Linda Cardellini, Boston Celtics star Derek White, and stand-up from Katie Boyle.
49:03It's a great show tonight.
49:07All right, eventually we'll get to Fallon, but we've got NBA Showtime presented by State Farm coming your way.
49:13Before that, Cam Johnson going to catch up with Maria and the guys as soon as we are done here
49:19in Denver.
49:19Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid, Maxey with that tendon injury on that right pinky, so out for at least, they think,
49:28a couple more weeks, and then Embiid getting close, working out.
49:32Go-champ, rises.
49:34Misses.
49:36Remember that the guys in the studio are going to try to get a clause in their contract moves forward
49:41about the score of the game.
49:44The second game, the late game on the East Coast, they'll get a chance to slide out of here.
49:49That's not optional.
49:50Sorry.
49:53Lowry's short.
49:58Oh!
49:59And then on the reach, picks up the foul.
50:02They make it.
50:06pick it will go to the free
50:09throw line where he's only been
50:1213 times this year 12 or 13 from
50:14the line he got on Nike ID with
50:20those shoes oh my gosh you're
50:22right that's that's not a color
50:24where you can just get at the
50:26store right here no several
50:31colors included there here you're
50:36looking to stand out there's no
50:38doubt
50:48colorful conversation around about
50:50who gets the rebound a minute 30
50:52left on this one here in Denver
50:54tonight Denver's gonna move 42 and
50:5727 Sixers drop to 37 and
51:0132 with the lost tonight drumming
51:04from Watford
51:16six and showing a little bit of
51:18zone here late in the game
51:21same result picket finds it
51:24whether it was man or zone
51:25they've been knocking down threes
51:2916 of 33 tonight almost 49% Terry
51:36stepped out before he saved it
51:41Jalen picket's one of those guys that
51:43similar to Tyus Jones who's also on the
51:45Nuggets and you know Kyle Lowry that's
51:48been you know 20 years in the league
51:50basically like guys that are just
51:51steady you know consistent hard-working
51:55tough-minded guys who can play a long
51:58time in this league who have a place
52:00in the league because of it still
52:02have a place in the league
52:06Jerry and Kyle Lowry I mean here for
52:09his leadership and to teach the
52:12younger players what it does take to
52:14be a champion six time all-star so the
52:21Nuggets will get on a plane go to
52:23Memphis tonight and Philadelphia be at
52:28Sacramento on Thursday before they
52:30wrap up the road trip at Utah on
52:33Saturday still in the mix and the
52:38playoffs right now in the play in
52:39but trying to scramble and pick up a
52:43couple of those games and get to
52:44the sixth seat so that will do it
52:521 24 to 96 will be the final and it
52:57was early I mean that Nuggets went
52:59out for that lead in the first and
53:01never looked back
53:07get to work after this break from
53:11Nicole Jokic on the effort tonight
53:13here in ball arena
