00:00The three moves you like the most with the Patriots this offseason,
00:02the three moves you don't like.
00:03Start, number one.
00:04Who do you like the most?
00:05Kevin Byard.
00:06I love that signing.
00:07My big thing, and I talked about this last time I was on with you guys,
00:09I wanted them to add playmakers on defense.
00:12They did a really good job of preventing offenses from making plays.
00:15They didn't make a ton of plays of their own.
00:17They were bottom half of the league in turnovers, in sacks, things like that.
00:21Kevin Byard's a smart player.
00:23He fills a need.
00:23He attacks the football seven interceptions last year.
00:26I like getting a veteran on the back end.
00:28Checks a ton of boxes for me.
00:29Great signing.
00:30Byard.
00:31I still want to know what kind of pictures they have of him.
00:33One year, $9 million for a guy who's an all-pro?
00:3633 years old.
00:37I know, but still, you'd think there'd be an option or some bonus money.
00:41I didn't read all the particulars on the deal, but that feels like a good contract.
00:45Number two, Alex.
00:46Reggie Gilliam.
00:47Yeah, the fallback.
00:48They became way too one-dimensional at the end of the year.
00:51The fallback.
00:52It didn't get talked enough at the end of last year how they kind of became one-dimensional
00:57and they didn't have a run game.
00:57And I think that's because everybody was so fixated on Drake May.
01:00You know, you can throw Elijah Veritaker in here, too, if you want.
01:03They need to be better at running the football consistently.
01:05Not the big 80-yard run.
01:07They need to be able to get four, five, six yards at a time to set up play action, to
01:11force defenses to play bigger.
01:13It'll open up more for the pass.
01:14The investment in the run game, Gilliam and Veritaker, if he's healthy, which is a significant
01:19if, I think is actually going to make Drake May's life a lot easier.
01:21More so than people realize.
01:23Veritaker.
01:23High ceiling.
01:24They needed an offensive lineman.
01:25I'm okay with that one.
01:26I like Veritaker, too.
01:28Three.
01:29Romeo Dobbs.
01:30Just good, solid receiver.
01:32I think he fits well with May.
01:33Bigger target for that slot role.
01:35It seems like Drake May likes throwing those bigger guys.
01:37Not a lot of guys.
01:386'1", 6'2", that can play that position that way.
01:40He can.
01:41I'm okay on the player, but the fit elevates it for me.
01:44I think Drake May is going to make him better.
01:46Demonte Jones.
01:47Solid.
01:47End-of-line guy.
01:48Again, you're not going to get a 15-sack guy for what they gave him, but I'm okay with
01:53that.
01:53The three guys that they got that are veteran guys that can play in the league, I like.
01:56The three things they've done this offseason you don't like, Alex.
01:59Number one, least favorite thing they've done.
02:01So, number one for me, actually, Draymond Jones slash not getting a playmaker at edge.
02:06Like I said with Bayard, they have a lot of those kind of steady, consistent guys on
02:10defense, and that's what Jones is, and that's fine.
02:12I thought, based on who was available, they could have maybe done a bit more and gotten a guy
02:17that wasn't just going to make the plays that are there, but create some for the defense.
02:20So, I was a little underwhelmed with what they did on the edge.
02:23Losing Tonga.
02:24Big mistake.
02:25Easy guy to re-sign.
02:26They effed it up, and now they might need a tack.
02:28It makes it harder to trade Barmore.
02:31Mass got it.
02:32Tonga.
02:33Go ahead.
02:33That was next for me.
02:34And it sounds like they had a chance to sign him.
02:37Things got weirder at the end of the year.
02:38It didn't end up going down.
02:40He was an underrated player for them last year, and I think he was only going to get better
02:43with another year in that role.
02:44The coaching staff did a tremendous job developing him.
02:48That one hurts.
02:48I don't love that they let him get out of the building.
