02:08o no, and so although we loved the topspin game we thought that some of the
02:14movements were not exactly real natural tennis movements because sometimes and
02:21it happened in all the games of this era right is that the movements were cut out
02:25a little bit like like in video games so you had players waiting for the ball
02:30like this doing microsteps it was never really happens in in real life so we
02:37thought what how can we fix that so we we worked with a real pro tennis players we
02:43we started working in in the mocap in a mocap lab and it didn't come out really
02:49well because they they couldn't really play tennis they were more playing mocap
02:53than tennis right so we at the end we we put them in on a real play field and we
03:00asked them just play play tennis with the real movement and the whole panel of
03:05movements so we recorded every every move they could do every distance every
03:11every context every type of swing every ball height and we mocapped everything
03:16and we created a kind of AI system that was able to sort it out and find the
03:23right animation for the right context and blend them together so it always feels
03:27like the the movement is natural and there's the the preparation move starts during the
03:34movement and and you always keep the control during that time so I almost I'm afraid to
03:38ask how long that whole process took because I know you work a lot in mocap and it's a
03:42it's a very long arduous research process before you can even get our team spent day well it's it's
03:48um more than six months of work to have the first the the first glimpse of the of the game
03:56you know
03:56and before that you work like dogs but there's nothing playable there's nothing that feels or
04:01look like like tennis so it's a it's you have to really trust yourself when you're doing that but
04:08we we had we're we have a great team and we have people that are really committed to it and
04:15great
04:16fans of tennis are they all really big tennis fans because I think that really helps doing a sports
04:20game to like understand the mechanics of the sport that you're trying to you know simulate in a video
04:24game yeah the the programmer is is my business partner he's a guy who's been in the industry for
04:3030 years and he he plays tennis a lot and he's really trying to find how the animation
04:38could be better uh how it fits with the the move um how you can keep control of the player
04:43because
04:43that's also an issue in the in the in the sports game right if if the if the animation is
04:49is very
04:50precise but the the choice of animation is made too much in advance then sometimes you get the feeling
04:56that you're not really controlling the player and this happens a lot in um uh in in previous games
05:02where sometimes you're asking the player to go left and it waits a little bit and at some point
05:07he's left like an animation that got away from the branch yeah that's it so we we really try to
05:12polish that and make it uh feel natural but also um keep the control at any time awesome so you
05:18mentioned this is a true simulation in this game so what can we expect multiplayer wise oh me tell us
05:25yeah multiplayer well we'll have the pretty much the same type of um of modes that you had in top
05:31spin um there's a uh a worldwide ranking and ongoing uh um challenges awesome and there's there's also
05:39um a bi-weekly challenge um where you can become number one uh world number one uh and you can
05:47also
05:47play with your friends uh just pick up the pad and play nice now you mentioned that you had you
05:52know
05:52some real tennis players playing there for your mocap to do all your research you can actually be some of
05:57those pros in this game i read that you have over 30 different pro tennis players that you can actually
06:01play yeah exactly can you share any of those with us now today yeah maybe one or two one one's

06:07a couple of them uh uh have already been announced we have roger federer of course uh we've got guys
06:14that like um david guffin uh michael um john isner uh we've got girls um uh like we've got gabini
06:22with gorutsa uh we've got angelic kerber and also i'm happy here to uh to reveal today that we have
06:29uh michael moe um uh and um taylor fritz uh and um and there's someone i can't remember that's a
06:39that's a shame but uh we've got five um five u.s tennis players and uh and um men and

06:47we're gonna have a lot of variety that's great now would you say that this is a game more for
06:52people
06:52that are really like hardcore tennis fans or if you're just like a casual sports gaming fan and
06:57you want to pick this up as a beginner do you think they'll still have a good time that's a
06:59great
07:00question uh we we wanted to um to make the game easier to pick up and play because that's also
07:04something uh we uh uh some players i know love it from top spin because there's like hours of uh
07:12of
07:12training before you can really master the game but also it's a bit frustrating because um
07:17um you have to really learn with your your muscle memory how to when to press the button exactly if
07:23you want to to catch the ball it's um uh something we wanted to make easier so it's not to
07:28say that the
07:29the game is is uh is easy because um it is a real hardcore game with a lot of mechanics
07:36with a lot of
07:37tuning you can do on the character uh you can really spend a lot of time uh creating uh upgrading
07:44your
07:44character with a lot of parameters but um at the same time it's very easy to pick up and play
07:51so
07:51um you can grab the pad and uh if a a friend wants to join and he's never played tennis
07:57before it's
07:58basically a bit like fifa you know you can play fifa it's really really easy but um if you want
08:03to
08:03really go far in the career it takes a lot of time and a lot of um a lot of
08:08uh playing yeah
08:10there's tons of hours in this tennis game for people yeah absolutely that's awesome so you're
08:13not going to be able to master it as soon as you pick it up so we we have a
08:17uh a full career mode
08:18it's going to be uh uh very dense and we want to let the player uh live the life of
08:25a real pro tennis
08:26player uh and um also i can't forget too much right now because there's still a lot of things to
08:32uh to do
08:33in the game but um uh we we're going to show the the players what the pro players do when
08:39they're not
08:40playing tennis oh a little sneak peek into their lives yeah now i noticed here when the just the
08:45animation that we're seeing there's different types of courts will you guys because i know
08:47obviously in tennis there are like three major different courts that you can play on will they
08:51all be playable in the game yeah we uh we will have uh grass uh we'll have clay uh we'll
08:56have uh hard
08:57surfaces and they all play a uh a great role in how the how the ball works the the physics
09:04of the ball
09:04is different um the the the speed of the ball the bouncing the spin also changes and um it goes
09:12as far
09:12as the the location and even the altitude of the location acts on the the physics of the ball uh
09:19it also
09:20acts on the uh on the stamina of the players so it's uh it's really dense we uh we try
09:27to
09:27puts a lot of parameters to to give the player the the the the sensation that he's really playing
09:32tennis with the uh the real physics and the real outcomes uh of uh uh the physicality of the sport
09:38that was really important for us now this is what the the meter that we're seeing is that they're how
09:43hard they're hitting the ball or is that that that's the the charge you mean the the the little meter
09:49that comes up yeah that's the charge in fact you um uh what plays a great role in the in
09:55the game is um
09:56uh how you um you choose to uh to take um uh to uh to to to to hit the
10:04ball um in the hard way or not
10:06if you're charging or not if you're taking risks uh where you place yourself on the playfield uh how
10:12you uh you you choose to um what the the choice of um of spin and um of swing you
10:18make this is going
10:19to be very important for uh for the success of the game there's a lot of options a lot of
10:23options
10:23full career mode over 30 players real physics tons of mocap finally got a tennis game coming to
10:30playstation 4. awesome it's very very exciting so when uh can playstation fans get their hands on
