00:03I wanted to get in front of you to talk a little bit about one of the top questions or
00:06bits of feedback
00:06we've been getting from our community around the role of the sloop in Sea of Thieves.
00:11Specifically around the role of solo play but also duo play and really how that fits into our shared world.
00:17Sea of Thieves is this unique shared world multiplayer game
00:20and we've always looked really hard before we bring something in, like what's this going to add to the experience?
00:25What are players going to be able to do? How's it going to change that kind of social dynamic?
00:29And the solo and duo play, they're no different for that.
00:33And so we thought the best way to do this would be to grab Andy and Shelley.
00:36So they're going to be talking in a little bit around the design thinking behind this
00:41and how we've incorporated this into the game.
00:44Because it's really important, I think, to understand what our intention is behind these things that we bring in.
00:49Not just for now, but also as we move forward, we'll be looking at bringing in different ship types to
00:54the experience.
00:55And with that in mind, we're always going to be looking at that through the same lens.
00:58If we're going to be bringing something in, what's its purpose?
01:01What advantages or strategic disadvantages is that going to bring in?
01:04What different style of play is it going to introduce?
01:07So without any further ado, I'll hand over to Andy and Shelley from the design team.

01:21Sea of Thieves is a shared world adventure game and other players are a massive part of the experience in
01:26Sea of Thieves.
01:27Whether you're playing on a small ship or a large ship, you're always expected to come across other players.
01:32Multiplayer is a core part of Sea of Thieves as a game.
01:34We wanted many avenues to becoming pirate legend in Sea of Thieves.
01:38So that might be a mixture of just players playing solo only and you've got these lone wolf pirate legends.
01:43That'd be really cool.
01:43Or you might be mixing it up between the two different ships as well on your way, creating different stories
01:47along the path.
01:48So when you select the small ship, you're not selecting a different game mode.
01:51It's not a single player linear narrative. You're playing the same game mode just on a different ship.
01:56And it's not just like a mutually exclusive thing where people will always play on the large ship or the
02:01small ship.
02:01Maybe you always play with a crew and then when they're not online you want to carry on but you
02:05don't want to crew up with anybody else so you want to go out on the small ship.
02:08Yeah and certainly kind of change the way that you approach the game as well.
02:10You might have to be a lot more kind of cautious and stealthy on the ocean.
02:14It kind of depends what you want.
02:15If you want to go out there on a small ship and attack all the galleons and like go into
02:19PvP like that is entirely up to you.
02:22It's in your hands to decide.
02:23Certainly like it'd be incredibly tough to take on something like a skeleton fort in a small ship.
02:28I mean that's something that you probably want to do with a crew on a galleon.
02:31But then again conversely it's like they're the cool stories that you can kind of craft if you can take
02:36it on and you can overcome it.
02:37It's a really rewarding experience.
02:39The sense of achievement is really high but the difficulty is high as well.
02:41So the small ship is a good avenue for players that might want to not play with other players initially
02:45on the galleons.
02:46So they can kind of learn the ropes but it's going to be a challenging experience.
02:50You need to manage that ship yourself.
02:51So each time you go to an island you've got to be constantly aware of where you've parked the ship
02:55if there's any other ships nearby.
02:57Equally some players really relish that like challenge and the fact that it's all up to them and it's their
03:02adventure to do what they want.
03:04But some of those kind of more challenging stories are some of the most rewarding stories that we have in
03:09Sea of Thieves.
03:09So of course you can also match meet with one other person on the small ship as well and you
03:14can be a crew of two which is a really good way to start that kind of social experience like
03:19just with one other person.
03:20It's a very different kind of relationship because there's just you and that other person and some like really cool
03:24friendships can grow out of that and then people can go and crew up onto a galleon together.
03:28Yeah I think that's a good stepping stone to move up to the galleon experience where it's a lot more
03:33kind of social.
03:34So there's a bunch of different ways to play Sea of Thieves and really it's just about going out there,
03:37trying them and finding the play style and the ship size that suits you best.
