00:08In Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Lara is hunting Trinity, the organization responsible for her father's death.
00:14Lara was really defined by her relationship with her father from the first two games.
00:19In Tomb Raider 2013, she was trying to prove that her father was wrong in believing in all these myths.
00:24At the end of 2013, she realized her father had been right about all these things.
00:28In Rise of the Tomb Raider, she's trying to restore the reputation of her family name.
00:32At the end of Rise of the Tomb Raider, she's going off on her own, stepping out of the father's
00:37footsteps.
00:37But she's also realizing that choices have consequences, and she thinks she knows what's going on with Trinity.
00:43But she has this obsessive side that she tends to leap before she looks, and this is getting her into
00:48trouble.
00:48And this is what she needs to kind of get over and address in this story.
00:54Lara inadvertently starts a Maya apocalypse by taking a relic that Trinity's after.
01:00She thinks that if Trinity wants it and she gets it first, that's a good thing.
01:04But what it does is starts a chain reaction of a series of cataclysms that will end with the death
01:09of the sun.
01:10And that's what she's trying to stop in this game.
01:14You know, before, nature was something that she endured, something that she survived.
01:18The jungle is something that she's going to master, control it.
01:21At first, it's a challenge for her at the beginning of the game, but through the evolution and learning powers
01:24and talents,
01:25she's able to use the jungle to her advantage.
01:27She can use the environment to hide, disappear.
01:30So the whole stealth gameplay loop is way better.
01:32being able to torment and terrify her opponents.
01:36She can even avoid combats that way, just scare them and get them to leave by using the jungle to
01:40her advantage.
01:41I have to wonder, what will I become?
01:46Lara was already a capable, awesome character.
01:48What we wanted to do is move everyone up, make the challenges that she's going to go through
01:52be as up to her level as possible.
01:55So we have compelling opponents, but also Jonah, her ally, is going to challenge her on certain things.
02:00When she's wrong, she's going to call her out on those things.
02:02And also, she has an internal conflict, the guilt she's going to feel at starting the Maya apocalypse.
02:06She's going to reconcile all that stuff, so you have three levels of drama to deal with,
02:10and that's really going to push her to change and evolve.
