00:00Commanders have also brought back Jeremy McNichols.
00:03That just happened in the last five minutes or so.
00:07J-Mac, certainly a capable runner.
00:10Good out of the backfield, catcher passes, really good in pass pro.
00:15So now you got Bill, J-Mac, Rashad White, Jerome Ford.
00:21All those guys probably won't make the team.
00:24So they're creating competition.
00:26Yep.
00:29But maybe we could track somebody down from Cleveland
00:31because I think Ford had a bad injury at one point.
00:38Ford, in 23, had a monster year.
00:41He went over 1,100 yards per scrimmage, nine touchdowns.
00:44In his career, he's averaged over four yards per carry.
00:48A little more like lower-the-shoulder kind of guy, 5'10", 2'10".
00:53J-Mac's a player I've liked a lot since he arrived in Washington.
00:58He's been really good for them.
01:01Really good quickness.
01:03The pass pro obviously stands out to me.
01:07But again, B, I don't think any of this, now they have four running backs on the roster.
01:13It doesn't mean they won't take love.
01:15I'm not sure they should take love, but if they decide that's what they want to do,
01:19none of these moves preclude it from happening.
01:22Same with pass rusher.
01:23Same with a linebacker.
01:25Same with a safety.
01:26Honestly, I don't know who asked me this, but like, as of today, how I feel right now,
01:35I kind of, this is not a flag planting.
01:42This is just a March 16th at 11.05 a.m.
01:45I kind of think it'll be Caleb Downs.
01:47That's how I feel right now in this moment.
01:50And I think it would help.
01:51I think from a big roster construction situation, I think wideout makes the most sense at seven.
01:59I just, I don't know if any of these dudes are going to emerge as the clear guy you have
02:05to take.
02:06Because people are going to talk about Lemon.
02:08People are going to talk about Thomas.
02:10People are going to talk about Tate.
02:12You know what I mean?
02:12But what you said about they're going to, after all the pro days happen,
02:17they'll start to see what they think.
02:18Because, you know, some guys are going to move, going to move the needle.
02:22Some guys aren't.
02:23You know, some guys are going to start to say, hey, I'm getting better.
02:27I'm ready for this.
02:28Some guys are going to be like, look, man, I'm tired.
02:31I'm not, I'm not improving.
02:33And it'll make them make the decision.
02:35So I, I'll wait and see.
02:39Because I think they're now in a position to where they don't have to go one way or the other.
02:44They can go where they want to go or where that best player available ends up.
02:50Some people say it's Tyson from Arizona State.
02:53Some people say it's Tate.
02:54Some people say it's Lemon.
02:57You know what?
02:58I do think this free agency has helped them with is if they get a trade down offer,
03:05which I'm not entirely convinced will emerge.
03:07But if they get one, I do think you're not as desperate to try to add a blue chip player.
03:12You know what I mean?
03:13Or you, you want to add a blue chip player at 11 instead of seven and maybe recoup a second
03:19or an additional third or something.
03:22So, but of the, the folks they've added, who do you think has the best possibility to kind
03:31of have a breakout season?
03:34On a team?
03:35Yeah.
03:39It's kind of hard to do that.
03:41Cause like you got defense and offense, you have different guys, but I just think,
03:45I was talking to Ryan about this.
03:46I said, Ryan, if Jaden bounces back, a lot of people will have better seasons.
03:51Sure.
03:52You know, so, uh, but if I just go with a guy, breakout season or bounce back season,
04:01which one we want to go with this?
04:03Either one, dude.
04:05Bounce back.
04:05Somebody's bouncing back.
04:06They're kind of breaking out too.
04:08Yeah.
04:08But Terry had already broken out, but I think he's going to bounce back tremendously based
04:11off of last year.
04:12Um, he just needs to stay healthy.
04:15Yeah.
04:15I mean, and, and I think if he's there the whole time, I don't think he will be healthy
04:19because that's typically what he's been.
04:21Uh, the, I mean, what he had done at the end of the year, I think he can, if he's
04:28becomes
04:29more than just a deep threat and become a guy who can run some different routes with speed
04:36and route running, you can completely change up what you are, what people see you as.
04:44And I already, you already know Jaden likes him, trust him.
04:47So he'll go to him so he can be that guy.
04:51For me, it's Chig Okonkwo.
04:54I think if you're looking at a guy that could really break out, I think he's done pretty
04:59well with really subpar quarterback play in Tennessee and, and offensive systems that
05:06have just been messy and sloppy.
05:08I think he has a real opportunity in Washington to emerge as a 65, 70 catch guy.
05:18He's been durable.
05:19I mean, he's been putting up, I think he's got in four NFL seasons.
05:23I think he's only, I think he's gone 50 catches or more in three of them.
05:29Um, yeah, dude, the last three seasons, he's had at least 52 catches.
05:35I think that will continue to increase.
05:38And I think he's going to be in a system that'll really kind of help him.
05:43I want to open the phones for this 800-636-1067, 800-636-1067.
05:50Um, later in the show, we're going to get packed.
05:52Plus Matt Mayoko from San Francisco is going to join us at noon, talk through this Brandon
05:57Iyuk stuff.
05:58Um, but who do you think the breakout guy is for me?
06:01I look at Chigakonkwo for the last couple of seasons.
06:05I mean, the Titans quarterbacks in his career are like Will Levis, maybe Ryan Tannehill was
06:11involved at one point.
06:12Like it's been bad down there.
06:16Yeah.
06:16And, and I think he's got a huge opportunity here.
06:20Um, if you last year, he went for 56, five 60 and only a pair of touchdowns with a rookie
06:27Cam Ward and an offense that really struggled.
06:31So I think Akonkwo has a big opportunity from a defensive side of the ball.
06:35I also think Chanel has a big opportunity.
06:39Yeah.
06:42He, I think Chanel already has shown what he's capable of.
06:46So if he were to come in and having a big year, I think he's just doing what he's always
06:50done.
06:51He's super athletic.
06:52He could do multiple things, you know, the dude, and he has a mindset that I want to
06:57play, you know, he's not trying to get out of practice, not trying to get out of playing
07:02and work.
07:03He wants to be out there performing.
07:04So I just, I, I think what Chanel can do is change some people's mindset on this damn
07:10football team.
07:12Um, listen to Chanel's mindset.
07:14You're going to like this one.
07:15This is Leo Chanel, the new commanders linebacker talking about what he brings to the team.
07:22Um, you know, I've, I've said it before, I'll say it again.
07:25You know, I bring, I bring violence, physicality, um, you know, game day, I'm bringing that energy,
07:29that juice.
07:30I'm ready to get these guys rolling, you know, not that they need it anymore, but you know,
07:34I'm ready to uplift and any way that I can supplement any way I can.
07:37And, uh, again, get this rolling.
07:40Doesn't that sound like Dan Quinn on game day?
07:43I bring violence.
07:44I love it.
07:45And that what you want from a lot.
07:46He will hit people.
07:47He's a short tackler, you know, and that's something we need.
07:50Cause we saw a lot of missed tackles last year.
07:53Lots of them.
07:55All right.
07:55So this is already happening.
07:56If you want to call in 800-636-1067, 800-636-1067.
08:01Who was your breakout player for the commanders?
08:04But dude, so two people in the last 10 seconds after the Jeremy McNichols signing, this means
08:16we're not taking Jeremiah Love.
08:18Stop.
08:18Stop people.
08:19So you're saying the chances of Jeremiah Love are gone?
08:22No.
08:22No.
08:23It's not.
08:23See, this is the problem.
08:24It's a 90-man roster.
08:26It's a 90-man.
08:27And that's what I, that's where, and when you tell people like, you don't understand this
08:32thing sometimes, they don't.
08:34Just cause they sign one player don't mean they're completely not looking at another one.
08:38But you gotta have bodies.
08:40You gotta have bodies.
08:41You're not gonna go into camp waiting all around just to sign one guy.
08:46You still need other guys around.
08:48You want competition.
08:50So we'll see what happens.
08:51But, and if they don't go with Love, they'll go and get another damn good player.
08:56Like, all these running backs they've signed are one-year deals, and probably close to minimum
09:01commitments.
09:02Like, one thing has nothing to do with the other.
09:05I don't know if they're taking Love, but this does not preclude that.
09:0990-man rosters.
09:12How many, how many play, you always say, when is the game?
09:15September?
09:16Yes.
09:17They have 47 people active in September.
09:19Totally.
09:20And the rosters are currently 90.
09:23Like, relax.
09:25You gotta, you have to fill out a roster.
09:28Um, Stallion, who's your breakout candidate?
09:33Can you turn on the mic, Stallion?
09:34Could that, just dumb as a brick.
09:37Well, now, now we got it on here.
09:39Leo Chennault, that's my guy.
09:41I love this signing so far.
09:43I watch a lot of him with the Chiefs.
09:44Like, the guy is violent.
09:45He lines up anywhere also.
09:47Like, give me someone like that who's kind of like that hybrid.
09:50Frankie Louvoo type.
09:51But I do think he will be kind of more middle linebacker-ish.
09:54And I just think he's gonna be a stud in this defense.
09:59I'm with it.
10:00I think he could be really good.
10:01Louvoo's first year was phenomenal.
10:02Um, I don't think Frankie had the year he wanted last year, but I don't think anybody did.
10:07Nah, nah.
10:07Um, I just got this one from BM.
10:10He says, if healthy, Trelon Burks has potential for a breakout.
10:14What do you think of that one?
10:15I would love to see that.
10:16I would love, listen, man.
10:18I wanted to see guys try and go out there and reach their potential.
10:22And when Trelon Burks came out of college, people were talking about how great this guy could be.
10:27Get to it.
10:29Let's try it.
10:30And if he does.
10:30He's had injuries his whole career.
10:31What he does is make the team better.
10:33He goes into a year and he don't have injuries, he could have a better year.
10:38I'm with it.
10:40I think it'd be, I mean, Burks, I wonder if Burks and Okonkwo were close.
10:45Like, they were both in Tennessee together, both on some bad offenses, bad quarterbacks.
10:49Um, there isn't much to suggest a Trelon Burks breakout outside of the outrageous touchdown catch.
11:00I mean, he finished last season with 10 catches for 130 yards, but I, there were glimpses seem
11:07like he mostly played with Marcus, I would say.
11:11And then like Josh Johnson, really.
11:13Um, but I can see the Burks excitement.
11:18Jeffrey, what about you?
11:19You got a breakout player?
11:21Sign a lot.
11:22I'm going with Okonkwo.
11:25What, who?
11:25Ain't that how you say it?
11:26Okonkwo?
11:27Okonkwo, yeah.
11:28Doc was funny on that, too.
11:30I'm just thinking like when, when Zach Ertz was healthy, Jaden targeted him a lot.
11:36And I just think with Okonkwo, how do you say it?
11:39Okonkwo, Quay?
11:41Okonkwo.
11:41Okonkwo, yeah.
11:42I just think if Okonkwo, you know, routes are, are sharp and crisp, he's going to get
11:48targeted a lot.
11:49And he's young, he can run.
11:51And have y'all seen how this man bounce off tackles after he catch the ball?
11:55Yeah.
11:56That's what I'm looking for.
11:58He does.
11:59It, it's Cooley-esque.
12:01He, he was discussing it there and he said, yak.
12:04I like the yak.
12:05And he wasn't talking about Konyak.
12:07Talking about yours have to catch.
12:10Our guy Tay hit me on Twitter.
12:12He said, I'm saying Terry is the breakout guy.
12:14If Blau really makes sure he gets 10 targets a game, Terry will go crazy.
12:19I agree with that.
12:21Yeah.
12:23What, I mean, I'm almost curious.
12:27I don't know that I'll be able to pull this while we're up, but what is Terry average targets
12:33per game over his career?
12:35I bet it's...
12:36It's nowhere close to 10.
12:38I don't think it's 7.
12:40In 7 years, he's gotten 786 targets.
12:44So that's over a hundred...
12:46We can maybe divide that math.
12:48107 games, 786 targets.
12:52That's less than 7, right?
12:557, you say what?
12:57786 targets in 107 games.
13:01Right around 6-something.
13:04786.
13:05Now, some of that is the target count is down from last year.
13:09How many...
13:10This surprised me.
13:11Jeff, how many games do you think Terry played last year?
13:147.3.
13:157.3?
13:17What?
13:17Terry played what?
13:196 games last year?
13:20Stine, how many do you think he played last year?
13:22He played like 8.
13:23B?
13:307.
13:31The B?
13:339.
13:3410.
13:3510?
13:36It's kind of surprising, right?
13:38Now...
13:38But somebody went in for a play, right?
13:40And then...
13:41Well, it was the Raiders game where he got hurt again, right?
13:43Like, he started and then got hurt again.
13:45That's a higher number than I expected it to be.
13:49Terry finished last season 10 games, 60 targets, 38 catches, 582 yards, and 3 touchdowns.
13:58It'd be very interesting if Terry is a breakout guy.
14:02Because...
14:03Last year just went so sideways on a million different levels, you know?
14:08That I think it would be quite important.
14:15Like...
14:16Pro ballplayers at that level don't need necessarily extra motivation.
14:22But I think Terry wants...
14:24That's his mindset.
14:26That's his makeup.
14:26In the clean-out, he talked about, I'm just excited to have a regular off-season.
14:30Yeah.
14:30You know what I mean?
14:31That's Terry's makeup.
14:32Terry's gonna be ready to go.
14:33I'm just excited to have a regular off-season.
14:33I'm just excited to have a regular off-season.
14:33I'm just excited to have a regular off-season.
