A gunman, who was a convicted Islamic State supporter, opened fire on March 12 morning at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, injuring two people before being subdued and killed by Reserve Officer Training Corps students.

The back-to-back outbursts of violence added to rising concerns about the possibility of attacks on US soil amid the US and Israel-Iran war that began on Feb 28.

00:28Today, the FBI
00:29responded, along with our federal, state, and local law enforcement partners, to Old
00:35Dominion University. This was based on reports of an active shooter. What we know now is
00:41there is one deceased victim and two at the hospital. The FBI is now the lead investigative
00:47agency investigating this as an act of terrorism. In 2016, JALO was arrested and pled guilty
00:55for attempting to provide material support to ISIL, now known as ISIS. JALO was sentenced
01:03to prison in October of 2017 and was released from prison in 2024.
01:10FBI Norfolk's Joint Terrorism Task Force and our Evidence Response Team responded to the
01:16scene and will continue to have a physical presence here at the scene as we process the evidence.
01:21How it was an act of terrorism? I can tell you that we have confirmed reports that prior
01:27to him conducting this act of terrorism, he shouted, or stated, Allah Akbar, and he was
01:34formally a subject of an FBI investigation in material supporting terrorism. We have
01:42no information about any explosives in his car or anywhere else at this time.
01:46Did he have one weapon? As far as I know, we only know of one weapon that he had on
01:52his
01:52person at this time. What kind of aid was he giving to ISIL 10 years ago? He wanted to
01:59conduct a terrorist attack similar to that in Fort Hood, Texas. Is there any mention of the
02:05war in Iran? None whatsoever. How was he deceased? There were students that were in that room that subdued him.
02:17And rendered him no longer alive. I don't know how else to say it, but they basically were able
02:24to terminate the threat.
02:27why don't they know of the abuse? They were able to cover too far. That's
02:29what it was. And if you go, we can support people that who летят deter Information haut
02:30and says if they wereakah, moreРЕadamente, even though.
02:32So that's the way the virtue of this war does not look at the kein crime, and that's for
02:32the North Batt的人, who are making sure he can avoid it. It seems like that, that his
02:34ungefähr that happened to us. So, yes, this is another case we did not notice the
02:35game. They took that too far. Based on him when we were describing the
