00:20Here at 39 has been here for over 40 years and the sea lions are the most
00:28special part of the pier cold and windy this morning hard thing about you having to get
00:35permissions for things is you don't really get to pick the weather you have to disturb
00:40be down here at certain times
00:44so normally when you when you turn up to a location um if it's around a building then it'll
00:51have somebody who owns the land and then it'll be somebody who owns the building and then there'll
00:56be the company that's in the building as well that you have to get clearance from so we've got
01:00todd barber who is our man on the ground over here i've obviously known about todd and his work
01:07with things like rampage he's put on some of the most recognizable events in the cycling industry
01:12todd has been working on this project for the last five years he originally worked on it back
01:17in 2017 organizing all the permits he has all the right contacts to just make something like this
01:26happen having to get permits for locations definitely adds a bit more pressure to the
01:30riding i mean on one hand you've got clearance to be there so you're you know you're not going
01:35to get kicked out with security or whatever but the other hand go off on the permits only for like
01:39four hours the time you kind of get warmed up get your head and into gear to try it then
01:45you're
01:45suddenly running out of time there's two sides to the permits i think the first side is it creates
01:51a really stressful environment which is a challenge it's not even fear of this i just like i just
01:57have lost uh i've lost drive okay but then the second side is it also adds that little bit of
02:04extra
02:04pressure that sometimes danny needs to pull a trip something to just tip him over the edge to commit to
02:09do something getting like a limited amount of time and knowing you've got five minutes left
02:27to get something done sometimes it's good the levels of anxiety start to increase
02:41up back
02:45i don't know it's like it's not helping
02:47I'm going to stop him going.
03:18What was that?
03:20Daddy!
03:22That's beautiful.
03:23Done. Bit of a build-up to that, but glad.
03:26There's people everywhere.
03:27It's the middle of the day.
03:31You guys are awesome.
03:33You crack me up.
03:35It was great having you guys here.
03:38And the sea lions, I think,
03:39enjoyed it more than anybody.
03:41Look, they were so entertained.
03:43Thanks very much for letting us film.
03:45Yeah.
03:47She's the best.
03:48A bit of a shame no one fell in.
03:50Maybe next time.
03:52We had the boat.
03:53The boat was here.
03:55And that was an afterthought.
04:04Fort Point is basically a postcard.
04:08I don't think many tourists come here without
04:10at least going out there and walking along there.
04:12There's surfers coming in.
04:13It's a real popular surf spot.
04:15It's a chain placed perfectly in front of the Golden Gate Bridge.
04:18Every time I see pictures of them on the internet,
04:21I always imagine myself riding along the top of them.
04:23Then I go to Hamburg.
04:25That's it.
04:26This morning, we are out at Fort Point.
04:33We have to go and get bridge.
04:35Pretty stunning.
04:35The other ones are so rusted that they're
04:37a bit too technical.
04:38So we've gone for the cleanest, newest one.
04:43Looking very inviting, is it?
04:53I've got a tire so soft that the bike just stole.
04:57The chain was something I thought was actually
05:00going to be really straightforward.
05:01Coming to Fort Point, I thought it would go quite quickly
05:03because it's such a big, fat chain.
05:05But it turned out that the way the chain was lined up
05:07and the grooves, it spun him off as he rode across it.
05:12And also, what you don't see with the camera
05:15is there are some pretty gnarly rocks off to the side.
05:18So coming off the chain, you would fall down
05:21into some pretty hellish rocks.
05:22If it didn't have the rocks down to one side,
05:25this line would be quite fine
05:27because what you do is you just commit to the line
05:29and you just go over the handlebars both sides.
05:34Fort Point was the first location
05:35that the permits really came into place.
05:37We only had four hours to get that trick done
05:41and I don't think Danny was quite ready for dealing with that
05:46and having to deal with that pressure of time.
06:01I want to throw a bike in the sea, done.
06:04Is this the moment you finally punch one of us?
06:06Oh, just so.
06:08Not really.
06:09Trying to work with permits isn't that easy.
06:11It's nice to get permits for this stuff,
06:13but in the normal world,
06:15we normally just poach this stuff and nobody cares.
06:18It wasn't even a good attempt today, even.
06:20That's the annoying thing.
06:36That's it.
06:38That's the easy spot here.
06:44Oh, scrabbing are good.
06:48China Banks is another classic skate spot.
06:51It's in all the Thrasher magazine, it's in all the skate magazines, it's also in all the BMX edits.
06:58I think if you're a fan or ride BMX or skateboards, you will have seen it.
07:04Feeling good today actually. This is kind of, this is the kind of stuff I like to ride.
07:10Kind of just nice, moving with a trials bike.
07:15I need to find more of this kind of stuff actually, to be honest, because it's the kind of stuff
07:19that I probably like riding the most.
07:56Pigeon. What about the pigeons from the show?
07:59I think that's very cool. It's nice. I think that's good.
08:03Can I ask you for a quick interview please? What's your role to play in the shoot?
08:07You can just shove that in my mouth.
08:11Pigeon's been awesome on the shoot. We actually did a wee shoot before we came out here, as a bit
08:17of a test.
08:18I've only worked with Danny once in Amsterdam.
08:21There will not be a trial at this, the second and last time I'll be working with Chris.
08:26Yeah, horrible, horrible guy.
08:28And he passed, so he got the gig, but it's been class having him.
08:33He just clicked with everyone.
08:34Luckily he's a good character as well as a good shooter, so.
08:37He's got really good energy, and amazing camera skills.
08:48Oh! That's a big picture!
08:52Pigeon! That was insane!
08:54Let's get some snaps of Danny.
08:56Some flashed bows, whilst the boys are setting up the jib shot down there.
09:01Just like that, I'll follow him around, then lower down, drops to the middle ledge.
09:12Ah, the sound of my Italian side.
09:14Oh, one, two, one, two, one, two, one!
09:27Nice, Danny!
09:28Nice, Danny!
09:29It turned out better than I ever thought it would.
09:31That's really cool.
09:32A lot of build-up to that one.
09:34What, five years in the making?
09:36Let's go.
09:37Yeah?
09:38Yeah, oh my god.
09:38Looks good.
09:39Hey, come on.
09:40It's been a long time coming, and I think it's quite nice, like, after the last few days,
09:45it's been pretty stressful.
09:46So it's nice to do something quickly, efficiently, and Danny to be really happy with how everything went.
09:52It's one of the ones I knew I was probably going to enjoy riding, actually.
09:56It's kind of definitely my scene, so I'm pleased it was actually like that in reality,
10:00rather than realising that something was a bit scarier than I thought it was.
10:06On to the next one.
10:09Next time on Back of the Postcard.
10:12California, I mean, it's iconic.
10:14It's the place where dreams come true.
10:17I've had an absolute nightmare here.
10:18I've set myself up for real challenge.
10:20Three attempts?
10:21Yeah.
10:22Are you straight to go?
10:23You can definitely tell this is the first time you've been there.
10:26That's good to say.
10:27Confident?
10:27No.
10:28I won't say so.
10:30I won't say so.
