00:00In case you thought otherwise, for next Thursday when you come in with a piece of paper that you go,
00:05Hey, Craigie, I want to show you something.
00:08Nobody cares about your bracket.
00:10That is a life lesson for all of us to learn from.
00:15Nobody cares about your bracket.
00:18Nobody cares about my bracket either.
00:20So if you're new to March Madness, or if you're one of our younger viewers,
00:25and you're in high school right now, and all the guys are like,
00:28Hey, we're going to fill out the brackets.
00:29We're going to do this.
00:30We're going to do that.
00:31Remember, your mom and dad don't care about your bracket.
00:34Your teachers don't care about your bracket.
00:37Your sister doesn't care about the bracket.
00:40And your wife, for sure, has no interest in what eight seed you've picked to make a run to the
00:47Sweet 16.
00:48Now, I agree with that part.
00:51You have to agree.
00:53It's a fact.
00:53No, no, that part's a fact.
00:54But do you still keep it?
00:56The computer aids, because I still do.
00:59Yeah.
00:59Do you still keep your paper bracket with you?
01:01Of course.
01:02Like in your back pocket, Dean?
01:03Yes, yes.
01:04All you have to do, you have to have a paper bracket.
01:05I've got to carry my paper bracket regardless.
01:07Because you forget, you probably fill out 20 damn brackets.
01:10Right.
01:10You don't know who you have in all the 8-9 matchups.
01:13Right.
01:14You don't know which 12 seed you got.
01:16Right.
01:16I've got one of them making a run, but I don't know which one.
01:18Right.
01:18I forget.
01:19So I need my paper bracket with me at all times through the tournament.
01:23But that's for you to review, not to hand to a co-worker or a guy on the train, hey,
01:28buddy, I see you filling out your bracket.
01:30You want to take a look at a winning bracket?
01:33Now, here's the other part.
01:34Yeah.
01:34We know there's a bunch of good teams.
01:36We'll talk about this more next week, obviously, as we get closer.
01:39I don't want to argue with anybody about it either.
01:42Yeah.
01:42I'll do it at work, but I don't want to just be randomly arguing about, no, no, no.
01:46Duke's going to win.
01:47No, no.
01:48Michigan's going to win.
01:48I don't want to do that.
01:49I can't believe that you've got Duke losing to Virginia in the Elite Eight.
01:55You're like, I don't want to argue with you about the bracket.
01:58Yeah.
01:58But I'll tell you what, the event brings out the best in us, I think.
02:02Like, even seeing a packed restaurant where we broadcast from here and a lot of juice on
02:06the streets as you and I walk into work right past Madison Square Garden to get here.
02:11It's just awesome.
02:12It is.
02:13And it's awesome.
02:14And it's one of the things a lot of people push back on during the football tournament
02:18a few months ago when teams like James Madison got in, right?
02:22And they're like, well, James Madison has no chance to win, so why should they be in the
02:26tournament?
02:27Because of this.
02:29Because of March Madness.
02:31Like, I know things have changed in the advent of NILs and the transfer portal.
02:38Unfortunately, we don't have as many upsets as we used to have.
02:41We just don't.
02:41I was looking at a stat yesterday that it's like crazy how few upsets there are from a
02:48standpoint, not of covering the spread, like a big underdog winning a game outright.
02:52Yeah, outright.
02:53Like, it almost doesn't happen.
02:55I think last year's tournament, it happened four times in the entire tournament.
03:00Yeah.
03:00Where a big underdog actually won the game outright.
03:03I'm not talking about like a one-point spread.
03:04Yeah, yeah, yeah.
03:05I'm talking about like a 10-point underdog.
03:07Wins the game.
03:07And that's what the tournament was built on, that because it's one game and you're done,
03:14yeah, you might have a bad shooting night.
03:16I might not miss.
03:18And that gives me a chance, you know, to beat a better seed, right?
03:22Yeah.
03:22It doesn't happen nearly as much anymore because we're now creating super teams within super
03:29conferences.
03:29So, if you take, for example, like, you know, the greatest run of all time, NC State, you're
03:35beating five Slamma Jamma all those years ago, right?
03:38And Derek Wittenberg trying that 30-footer and Lorenzo Charles catching it in midair and
03:43flushing it and not knowing what the hell he did, right?
03:46Or, you know, the Villanova.
03:47Right.
03:48They played the perfect game against Georgetown.
03:49With no shot clock, right?
03:50Played the perfect game against Georgetown.
03:52Barely missed.
03:52Yeah.
03:53Moved the ball.
03:53I think they made like 90% of their shots in that game.
03:55And I don't think Patrick Ewing even had non-possession.
03:58No, he didn't touch it.
03:58Right.
03:59Those games are much harder to come by now because the disparity between the powerhouse
04:07schools and the lesser schools is much greater than it ever was.
