00:14Please tell me about your character in the film, what makes Spencer tick?
00:19I play Spencer, who's a former police officer,
00:22who is a man who takes the law into his own hands
00:26quando somebody is sandbagging a homicide investigation.
00:30He then goes to prison,
00:32spends five years in general population,
00:34which is not an easy thing for a police officer.
00:36Police officers don't survive in prison.
00:38And when he gets out, he's about to leave town,
00:40but he gets pulled back in.
00:43And what makes him tick is injustice.
00:45He can't stand it.
00:46He can't stand by and watch innocent people being wronged.
00:50And it's just in his DNA.
00:52So he now starts putting his nose where it doesn't belong
00:54and usually ends up getting punched in the nose because of it.
00:58But, you know, that's just the kind of guy he is.
01:01Why is the friendship that develops between Spencer and Hawk so unlikely?
01:05And how do they ultimately bond?
01:07Well, they are complete opposite Spencer and Hawk.
01:10But, you know, there's nothing better than jamming two people
01:14that have nothing in common together.
01:16Ultimately, they find out that they do share one thing in common.
01:18They have that same moral and ethical compass
01:21where they want to do the right thing by people,
01:23especially people who are victims.
01:25And so it makes her a lot of laughs.
01:29They're an odd pair.
01:30You have this kind of giant in Winston Duke playing Hawk
01:34and Spencer who's this feisty kind of over-the-hill cop
01:37who just has a no-nonsense, doesn't-give-a-shit kind of attitude.
01:42Describe the dynamic between Spencer and Sissy.
01:44Why does Spencer turn to Sissy for help?
01:47You know, well, when Spencer first gets out of prison,
01:50he's trying to avoid Sissy.
01:51She's got a very strong personality
01:53and he's not really capable of dealing with her.
01:57He's got some social issues and social anxiety.
02:01And then, of course, as he gets out,
02:05she confronts him and he realizes that, you know,
02:06she's still the love of his life.
02:08They reconnect.
02:09And then she just gets into everybody's business.
02:12So she makes herself part of it.
02:14He initially is trying to protect her,
02:16but she basically joins the gang and starts right up in the fight.
02:21What did you appreciate about Alan Arkin as a scene partner?
02:24What do you not appreciate about Alan Arkin?
02:27Alan Arkin, the great thing about Alan Arkin is he's prepared.
02:31He just wants to shoot, get it done,
02:32go have a sandwich and take a nap.
02:36But he's also one of the best gamers I've ever seen
02:40when it comes to improvising and trying new things
02:42and coming up with stuff that really enhances
02:44and elevates the material.
02:46Why were you excited to reunite with director Peter Berg
02:48to tell this tale?
02:49This is your first comedy together.
02:51How did the atmosphere on the set compare to your past projects?
02:56It was a very different atmosphere
02:59for Pete and I making this movie
03:01because the first three movies that we did
03:04were all true stories about tragic events that happened.
03:08And that really adds a lot of pressure
03:10when telling a story like that.
03:13And it was just the first time that we actually got to have fun.
03:17We were loose and trying things and being,
03:21you know, we're always very collaborative,
03:22but we always kind of challenge each other to do our best work.
03:25And, you know, he's like my big brother.
03:30You're about to walk barefoot to the gates of hell.
