00:04I'd like to start from a concept that video games and animations and animation it's like a match
00:13made in heaven because video games used animation for cutscene and so on as as soon as they could
00:19and now you're using video games to do animations is this relationship you focused on yeah because
00:29my company blur we've been around almost 30 years now and it was about year three that we kind of
00:35stumbled into the game industry it was almost at the dawn of that of that industry but people
00:43began to tell the backstory to the game before you played so when you put your CD-ROM in you
00:49would it would tell it would start an animation that told you what you needed or if you finish
00:53the level you might get the reward of seeing a cutscene in between that sort of set you up for
00:58the next level so we did all that and it was great for my company because I didn't want to
01:05do commercials or film effects because somebody else had made a lot of the decisions for you
01:10and in the game industry the developers and the people that made them they were very open to us
01:16participating and helping to tell the story about the characters in the world and it was a lot more
01:22freeing than than any other type of animation we could have done and gotten paid for at the time so
01:29I loved it and I feel like we've always done it and because we always did it when we went
01:36to those
01:36same customers and said or clients and said hey let us borrow these your your characters in your world and
01:44tell original stories in them they trusted us because they've been working with us for years they knew we
01:49weren't like the usual Hollywood schmuck who would just go give us your your loan us your IP and now
01:57fuck off we're gonna do whatever we want they knew that we would work with them and and do something
02:04that honored the work that they put into the IP. Sirius Leavet felt like a collection of DLC or downloadable
02:15content
02:16for the video games and I think it talks to the fans but do you think that in the non
02:24-fans couldn't
02:25understand what you're telling or just enjoy the show? Yeah absolutely I think it works on on a few
02:34different levels you know I haven't played every game that's in there and but I still enjoy every
02:38story uh we make it for the fan of the game first and foremost you have to honor the the
02:45love that
02:46people have for the characters in the game and the commitment of time that they've had but you also have
02:52to make it for for other people um just because the the whole point of this is is to is
02:58to give your
02:59fans something they will enjoy but also find new fans and those new fans are not going to know
03:05about the game this might be the first time they're exposed to it so it's very important
03:09and I don't think there's a story in there where I feel if you haven't played the game you'd be
03:13excluded from it um but I also think it's kind of cool to bring in um there's one on armored
03:22core with
03:22Keanu Reeves I think it's it's really great for it it is Keanu Reeves it's a 23 year old junkie
03:29uh
03:30crack addict version of Keanu Reeves but it is it is Keanu Reeves and I think it'll bring in even
03:35fans
03:36that aren't animation fans um but fans of live action that didn't know that they would love animation
03:42but when they see this they're gonna go hmm this is pretty fucking cool uh and maybe they'll become fans
03:48of animation in the among the titles there is something quite new like sifu uh something iconic
03:55and classical like dungeons and dragons but also something historic like pac-man was it hard to
04:03define the the library of titles to include oh very conscious um we knew that uh we knew that it
04:11was
04:12it had to have games that were popular now in the culture and we knew that it would have games
04:17that
04:18were coming out that weren't out yet um because those are the those are the people most interested
04:23in having their getting their game out there but we wanted the show to be very much a celebration of
04:29all games so it was important to put indie games um from smaller developers uh spelunky there's it's just
04:36one guy derrick makes it makes the game uh and and and also astounds the titles like mega man and
04:43pac-man
04:43um and there's a huge library of of games that we we we barely scratched the surface of of what's
04:50available um i feel like we have six or ten episodes seasons full of uh things to choose from
04:57uh and in every one of those categories um so yeah it the mix is important but it really should
05:04be
05:04something for everybody we didn't try to just one genre right it's it's genres like horror sci-fi and fantasy
05:12but it's also first person shooters or quest-based games um or puzzle games um and and i think we
05:18just
05:18want to have something for everybody thank you so much yeah
