00:42Because every single scene was such a challenge
00:47You know, playing on Game of Thrones
00:51She's incredibly complex
00:53But you have ten years to kind of develop this character
00:59And in this movie it's like you have to show everything that she's going through
01:03This movie is like an origin story from the time she's a little girl to her age now
01:08And so you have all of these incredibly emotional scenes packed into two something hour movie
01:15And so every single day was like an incredibly challenging scene
01:19And incredibly emotional
01:22But that's what I love, that's what excites me is challenges

01:30Your character is sort of mysterious and enigmatic and difficult to place in the X-Men universe
01:37So what drew you to it and what drew you to the franchise?
01:43What drew me to the franchise was that Dark Phoenix was the main storyline
01:47I know the last time they did it she wasn't
01:51Also working with Simon Kinberg
01:52It's a directorial debut
01:54We'd worked together before in The Martian
01:56And I really enjoy him
01:58And it's good to work with first-time filmmakers
02:00I like that energy that they bring to a set
02:02They're very excited to be there
02:04I was also super excited to play a character who
02:10And to be in a film that in some sense my character
02:13While she is manipulating Jean
02:15She's also empowering her
02:17And I liked a lot of the things that I had to say

02:22There is a line spoken by Mystique in the movie
02:26That says women are saving the day more and more
02:29By the day, shouldn't we start calling ourselves the X-Women?
02:34So do you think that women who make themselves visible
02:39As complex and flawed and willful individuals
02:44Challenging male authority
02:45Do you think that we are doing this?
02:49I think we're starting to
02:51I think we can do it more
02:52I love like, you know
02:55For the longest time
02:56It's almost like women were afraid to show their rage
02:58Or women were afraid, you know
03:00And like we had to behave a certain way
03:02And like a delicate flower
03:05And I think, you know
03:06The female rage is really powerful and important
