Trascrizione
00:00Signore e signori della NASA, sono Charles Xavier, soccorsi in arrivo.
00:05Facciamo missioni spaziali ora.
00:07Figo.
00:09Prendiamo gli astronauti e li riportiamo a casa. Forza!
00:14Segnale termico in rapido aumento.
00:16Andiamo via di qui.
00:18Dov'è Gina? Dov'è lei?
00:20Gina!
00:22I think it's been 19 years since the first X-Men movie and it was a real pioneer in its
00:29genre.
00:30Since then, comic movies have gone a long way and so have you.
00:34So, where were you 19 years ago?
00:37And then, did you expect comic movies to be a big part of the industry in time?
00:44And did you expect to play such a big part in it?
00:47No, I really didn't.
00:49I...
00:51I was in Manchester when I saw the first X-Men movie and I loved it, absolutely loved it.
00:58I'd been a big fan of the cartoon when I was growing up.
01:00My pal and I, Mark, used to watch it religiously and chat about it constantly.
01:05And then, so when it came out as a movie, I was very excited.
01:07And it was a big departure from what was happening in comic movies.
01:11Comic movies at that time.
01:16So, yeah, to get the call to be a part of it felt very strange.
01:21It felt like it was happening to somebody else, a little bit.
01:24I was in London when it came out and I didn't expect to be, no, it didn't even occur to
01:32me.
01:32I suppose I never really think, okay, you know, much about what's going to happen in the future.
01:38We, you know, you just get a script and you read it and you either react to it or not.
01:43And it just sort of struck me as a really rich world when First Class sort of landed on my
01:49desk.
01:50And very sort of sophisticated and complicated relationships.
01:55characters that were very complex and quite sort of contradictory.
02:01There was just a lot to work with outside of it being, you know, a fantasy world.
02:06It was very grounded in some real themes like people that are sort of feel like outcasts or misfits
02:14and trying to find some sort of connection to the world.
02:19Mm-hmm.
02:21Okay, about that.
02:22You have been alongside these characters for a long time now.
02:27I am curious, what did you learn?
02:31What did you find out professionally and personally playing Magneto and Chuck Xavier?
02:41Professionally?
02:47That it's difficult to play.
02:50Bold is best.
02:52Bold is easiest and bold is best.
02:54That is my answer.
02:56Thank you.
02:57Because mine was going to be serious and like boring.
03:01Go on.
03:02All right, it's me.
03:03What personally did you learn?
03:05Bold is best.
03:05Bold is best.
03:06All right.
03:07That's it.
03:08That is it.
03:08What did I learn professionally?
03:09Probably bold is best as well.
03:11Did very well for me in splitting glass.
03:13So that's my professional answer too.
03:14Yeah, yeah.
03:15Boom.
03:15I like it.
03:16I guess professionally it really, you know, changed my career in a lot of ways.
03:24It sort of, you know, really gave me my sort of main fan base, really.
03:30I mean, if I go to sort of somewhere like Italy or India or Brazil, people always sort
03:36of recognize me as, you know, Magneto and it also allowed me to set up my own production
03:41company and, you know, help make smaller films, you know, get them financed and yeah,
03:50it's just really changed everything for me.
03:53So I'm very grateful.
03:54Yeah.
03:55And bold is best.
03:56And bold is best.
03:57Yeah.
03:59So my next question is about authority.
04:05It is a theme between Magneto and Chuck Xavier since the first film you made together.
04:12and in this Dark Phoenix, Chuck Xavier's authority is really questioned by many characters in
04:22play.
04:23But my question, my curiosity is about you and your experience challenging authority.
04:29Growing up or as adult?
04:32I challenge it less these days, weirdly.
04:35I used to, I used to be quite keen on challenging authority.
04:41Possibly too quick to challenge authority.
04:44Yeah.
04:45A couple of run-ins with bouncers.
04:48You know, somebody asked me yesterday what makes me angry and I realized that it is authority
04:53and ignorance combined.
04:55Yeah.
04:56It's everywhere right now.
04:57What authority and ignorance combined?
04:58It can be, yeah.
04:59What authority?
05:00Yeah.
05:01One man's rage is peaked.
05:04His ire has rised.
05:05Particularly in the US maybe.
05:07It's almost right now.
05:09Everywhere, anywhere on an everyday level I guess as well, right?
05:13Yep.
05:14Yeah.
05:16I've become a little more chill and I give people a bit more benefit of the doubt before
05:20I bite these days I think.
05:21I try and understand a little bit more.
05:23I try and go like, alright, is he being a total douchebag or not?
05:28Should I try and see it from his point of view?
05:30Whereas before I'd be like, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho.
05:33Yeah, yeah.
05:33Like straight away.
05:34I agree.
05:35I think, you know, as you get older maybe your ego sort of mellows out a little bit.
05:40but I find that for sure.
05:42You know, and maybe as a young person also, you know, that's what young people do.
05:46They rail and challenge against authority or the rules set in place.
05:51I think that's a good thing.
05:52I think, you know, it's always good to question the man or the person in charge.
06:02Oh, ho, ho, ho.
06:08Oh, ho.
06:24Do you want to attack me?
