00:00My aim is to run 2,200 kilometers, circumnavigating the whole of Peninsular Malaysia.
00:10So I started from Penang, where I was born, and we're starting from the Home of Hope in Leboraya Rose
00:17in Penang.
00:18I run to the ferry and take the ferry terminal, take the ferry across, and my journey begins when I
00:24go past into Kedah, into Pearlis, right up to Padang Besar.
00:28And then I will cross the mountainous East West Highway area, up to Kelantan, and then down to Trangganu, Pahang,
00:37Johor, and then back to Malacca, KL, Ipoh, and then back to Penang.
00:44And for my Penang finale, I'm going to do 78 kilometers around the island in one day.
00:51So that will be my finale.
00:53So I think if I can do all those, I should be able to manage that.
00:56And as you all know, my wife passed away of cancer two years ago, or gallbladder cancer.
01:03And I have been a caregiver for her for just four months.
01:09And I can understand and feel what it's like, number one, to be a patient, and number two, to be
01:17a caregiver.
01:18And cancer affects patient and also the caregiver.
01:23And I have seen so many cases because my wife was in a hospital unit in Australia, but on the
01:31same floor were all cancer patients.
01:34And you can see how difficult it is for myself or for the caregiver and for the patient.
01:39So I feel that if I can do something to help relieve this suffering, that will be my mission.
01:48Why do you choose children and not cancer patients in general?
01:52Why is the focus on kids?
01:54As I mentioned in my talk, what caught me was when I visited the Home of Hope in KL and
02:03in Penang.
02:04And I can see the benefit for the children.
02:08I mean, there's no point in having a general, suffering general cancer.
02:15For example, gallbladder cancer, it's not very common.
02:18But I see the benefit of helping the children, especially the Home of Hope infrastructure is already there.
02:25All you need is donations and resources to keep it going.
02:28And you look at Penang, the majlis for Pulau Penang actually provides the lease to a property, which is a
02:37rundown property.
02:39And National Cancer Society managed to get donations and sponsorship to renovate the whole place.
02:45And you should come and visit Penang's Home of Hope.
02:48It is so well kept and so well managed.
02:51Do come and visit them.
02:53So that's why I chose children, because I was a bit touched by what National Cancer Society was doing.
02:58For the children.
03:00You mentioned the preparation that you done, like you get up 5 p.m. in the morning, you know, to
03:05run, to get endurance.
03:06When exactly like all these preparation started?
03:10Okay.
03:12Last August, I did the Sydney Marathon.
03:16The full marathon, 42 kilometers.
03:19It's the only second one I've done.
03:21The last one I did was when I was 28 years old.
03:24So, I ran it with my son.
03:27My son lives in Sydney.
03:28So, he was basically running next to me, hydrating me, feeding me, and so on.
03:34So, that's how I was thinking I should do this in a supported way, rather than having a backpack, carry,
03:42and then run.
03:42So, we almost did it very, very difficult.
03:45So, from that day onwards, I decided I'm going to train for this thing.
03:49That's when my son said, Dad, you want to run 2,000?
03:53You have to train, you know?
03:54And that's where I started.
03:55So, I don't have a formal training program.
03:59But my support crew tell me, feet on the ground.
04:02Every day, you walk, you run, you just have to have feet on the ground.
04:06And I hope to be able to complete 25 to 35 kilometers a day, or three to four days, and
04:12carry on, and carry on, and carry on.
04:15So, that's the plan.
04:17So, besides running, there is strength and conditioning training.
04:23I go to the gym once a week to carry weights, to strengthen the lower.
04:28Then I've got to go on some kind of protein diet, because after so much running, you need to have
04:35all these additional protein.
04:36So, I'm taking a protein powder shake almost every day.
04:40So, those are new things to me, which I have to learn as well.
04:46Okay, everybody, I'm going to run for gold!
04:50Run for gold!
