Star Media Group Berhad (SMG) and South China Morning Post (SCMP) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at strengthening business linkages between Malaysia and Hong Kong through knowledge leadership events and content exchanges.

00:01Star Media Group and the South China Morning Post are strengthening ties,
00:07with both media organizations signing a Memorandum of Understanding
00:11to deepen business and content collaboration between Malaysia and Hong Kong.
00:16The agreement will see the two organizations expand their existing content-sharing partnership
00:21while exploring new initiatives in sustainability, ESG, youth and education.
00:27SMG Group Chief Executive Officer Chan Seng Fat said the collaboration is part of the group's strategy
00:33to expand its presence in the regional and international market.
00:38This signing is in line with our aspiration to move the group into an international arena,
00:44which is something that has been aspired to do so for the last two, three years.
00:50And I think the direction that we are moving now is very much in line with our long-term strategy.
00:56I think each group of us have our own strengths.
00:59With this collaboration, we can leverage on each other's strengths to help everyone as a partner
01:05to move on to the regional market in a more cohesive and stronger manner.
01:13The MOU was signed with SCMP publisher Tammy Tam during a closed-door session
01:20at the Think Business, Think Hong Kong Symposium in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday.
01:24Tam said the partnership would help strengthen connections between Malaysia, Hong Kong and mainland China
01:30as trade and business exchanges grow.
01:34And the media, we are in this communication business. We also want to connect people.
01:35By signing this MOU, we have a lot of expertise in Malaysia.
01:38And you have a lot of expertise about Malaysia.
01:41Malaysia is a great country.
01:43And with Hong Kong, Malaysia, and also mainland China, Malaysia, trade highs and business exchanges increasing.
01:52Hong Kong is a super connector. And the media, we are in this communication business.
01:59We also want to connect people.
02:01By signing this MOU, I see it's a very, very significant move between the partnership of the two major publications.
02:09The agreement also includes plans for young reporter exchanges, competitions and collaboration between their youth and education platforms.
02:18Both organizations will explore high-level business events including C-suite roundtables
02:23and an annual summit focusing on future trends and economic dialogue.
02:28The events could be held in Malaysia, Hong Kong or other regional hubs.
02:33The signing was witnessed by Transport Minister Anthony Lok and Hong Kong Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Algenon Yao
