00:01The community responded in a way that you just don't see very often.
00:07Community members gathered to honor U.S. Navy veteran Lonnie Wayman.
00:14Now, Lonnie passed away, served our great country,
00:18but actually had no family to come attend his funeral.
00:23Oh, no.
00:24Yeah.
00:25Officials announced he had no known family.
00:28Oh, my gosh.
00:28And more than 200 people responded to the public invitation
00:34from the Tennessee Department of Veterans Services
00:37and attended the service to pay their respects.
00:40Wow.
00:40I love these kinds of stories.
00:42We had one earlier this week about a little girl, a nine-year-old,
00:44and nobody showed up to her birthday party.
00:46Her mom put it out on social, and the whole community showed up.
00:49I love that community.
00:51Donnie, you're right, because a lot of the times,
00:53you have to put yourselves in the shoes of others, right?
00:56How would you feel if this was your family, this was your daughter, this was your dad,
01:01your grandfather, whatever it might be, and especially when you're talking about service
01:06in military.
01:07So Wayman was laid to rest with full military honors, surrounded by residents and local
01:12officials who came together to ensure he had received a dignified farewell.
01:18That's incredible.
01:19Yeah, I love that.
01:20It takes a lot to make a great community, but that a lot starts with just a couple people.
01:25That's what's so incredible.
01:27So to the Gallatin Police Department, who also attended the funeral, thank you.
01:31They shared a message on social media.
01:33That's how we got in touch with this story.
01:35And he was laid to rest at Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery.
01:39So that community, big shout out.
