00:00we are
00:02wordlers here on the Andy Summer Show
00:04and you may or may
00:07not be surprised to hear that some people
00:09cheat at Wordle
00:10why
00:10I will tell you that my competitive spirit
00:15leads me to that
00:17and it's I feel like I'm not letting
00:19anyone else down by cheating
00:21because no one else is affected
00:22but I hate when I'm on
00:25a good streak
00:26and then I lose
00:28so if you've never wordled
00:30it's a five letter word
00:33that you have to guess and you have six chances
00:35to guess what that word is
00:36you get no hints, you don't know if it's a verb
00:38if it's a noun, nothing
00:40so you're just randomly throwing words
00:42up to see if they'll
00:45stick
00:45but there has been a study
00:49done to see who, what state
00:50has the most cheaters
00:51and it turns out
00:54the northeast is where most of the cheaters
00:56live
00:57I knew it
00:58so they figure this out because there's a company
01:01called Preply
01:02it's an online language
01:04learning site and they analyzed
01:06google searches to find out where
01:09the biggest cheaters are
01:10so these are people who google
01:12wordle hint
01:13and it turns out that Maine
01:16has the most wordle cheaters
01:18per 100,000 people
01:20wow, Maine
01:21I don't have to cheat
01:24very often
01:26in wordle
01:26but I don't want to break that streak
01:29and I am a very competitive person
01:31but again
01:32it's not like I'm
01:33better than any of you
01:34if I get it right
01:35so I feel like it's not that big of a deal
01:37but I also think it's funny
01:39that Maine is number one
01:41New Hampshire, Rhode Island
01:43Vermont, Massachusetts
01:45Connecticut
01:46are all up there
01:48maybe they're just really competitive
01:49and they're all like sending in their group chat
01:52because when you initially said cheating
01:54I thought
01:55they're just trying to get the word on the first guess
01:57to be like
01:58oh look
01:59I guessed it the first time
02:00but I use the wordle hints sometimes
02:02yes
02:03and maybe they
02:03maybe they are doing that
02:05maybe some people are doing that
02:07as well
02:07because
02:08right
02:09like we don't know
02:09at what point they are in the game
02:11when they
02:11when they google wordle hint
02:13I'll be the first to say
02:14if I get to
02:15four or five
02:16so you get six total guesses
02:18yeah
02:18that's when I'll maybe ask for a hint
02:21yeah
02:21or I'll call my dad
02:22who does it every morning
02:23and I'll be like
02:24give me a hint
02:24well and it just gives you like
02:26a hint to the word
02:28you know
02:28another definition
02:29or like
02:29hey this doesn't have any double letters in it
02:32right
02:32right
02:33maybe that's what you're missing here
02:34so
02:35I don't
02:35I think it's a different way to play
02:37now I'm realizing I cheat sometimes
02:39so I'm trying to
02:40sometimes you just need a little help
02:41sometimes you just need a little help
02:43I'm not going to feel badly about this
02:45yeah
02:45so Yolanda Del Pesos Ramos
02:48the spokesperson for Preply
02:50says that the hardest words
02:52aren't actually the most obscure words
02:54they're the words that use
02:56they combine familiar letters
02:58in unfamiliar words
03:00okay
03:01so her advice
03:03all right
03:03if you're a wordler
03:04take her advice
03:05she said
03:06notice patterns
03:08stay curious about words you don't know
03:11and be willing to make an educated guess
03:14I have to be honest
03:16Yolanda
03:16that does not help me at all
03:17no
03:17that is not
03:18do you guys start with the same word every day
03:20I do
03:21what is
03:22yes
03:23what is it
03:23what's your word
03:24I go audio
03:25every time
03:26I like it
03:26I like getting all of
03:27almost all of my
03:29do you use the wordle bot
03:30so every time I play
03:33oh yeah
03:33within the game
03:34every time
03:35when you finish
03:36it'll score how you did
03:38so if you're playing
03:40like I play the hard version now
03:42so if I find out
03:43that like there's an E
03:45in the last space
03:46I can only
03:47type in words
03:48that have E
03:49in the last space
03:49right
03:49but before
03:52if you're not
03:52if you're just playing
03:53the regular way
03:54it tells you
03:54that there are two
03:55words that are
03:57like 99%
03:58they give you a score
03:59of 99%
04:00one is crane
04:01and the other is
04:03um
04:05what is it
04:07steak
04:07stale
04:07oh stale
04:08s-t-a-l-e
04:09or s-l-a-t-e
04:10actually
04:11stale is
04:11gives you a lower score
04:13than slate
04:13slate is the better one
04:15I don't know why
04:15I don't know why
04:16it's the same letters
04:17mean the s and the t
04:17feel like very common
04:19I mean we do a lot
04:20of hangman here
04:20in the studio
04:21right
04:21s and t
04:22very common
04:23of the consonants
04:24and then of course
04:25a and e
04:26I think c is also
04:27that's like
04:27a quiet
04:28it's a quiet letter
04:30hey I'm pro
04:31new word every day
04:32I just kind of
04:33start with the letter
04:33and go from there
04:34and here's why it works
04:36because on Saturday
04:37spoiler
04:38the word was
04:39bleat
04:40yes like the noise
04:42that a goat makes
04:43it bleats
04:44my first word
04:45bleak
04:45nuh
04:46I was one letter off
04:48I was one letter off
04:49I was one letter off
04:50before I get
04:52you
04:53I was one letter a
04:53little letter off

04:57yeah I have to
04:58hear yuck
04:59than if I'm
04:59it never talks like
05:00you
05:00even

05:02before I get
