00:00Bam Adebayo, who averages for his career, you know, like 20 points a game,
00:06and has only scored more than 40 once in his career, last night had 83 points,
00:12which would mean that he is second only to Will Chamberlain,
00:16past Kobe Bryant's 81, past three other guys 70-plus,
00:20and he goes down in the record books, modern era,
00:23as most points scored in a single basketball game.
00:26And I would be wrong if we talked about it like that.
00:30And put that performance in the Pro Basketball Hall of Fame.
00:33You see the stats on your screen right there.
00:36That is the most attempted free throws in the history of the NBA for an individual player.
00:42That is the most made free throws by an individual player in the history of the NBA.
00:48I happened to be watching this game, and I turned it on in the second quarter
00:52after Bam had a 31-point first quarter because I've never seen a guy drop 31
00:58in the first quarter of an NBA game.
01:00And Bam Adebayo, while a very good basketball player for a decade or so now,
01:05is not thought of as a generational scorer because he never has been a generational scorer.
01:13And here's where things went south for me, more notably in the fourth quarter than any other quarter.
01:19Number one, every time Washington got the ball, Miami went out of its way to foul them.
01:25They didn't want time coming off the clock because they recognized we have a chance to help Bam Adebayo,
01:31pass Kobe's 81, get to 82 or 3 or more, and be second only to Will Chamberlain, correct?
01:38Yes, that is correct.
01:39So in the fourth quarter, certainly the last five, six, seven, eight minutes of the fourth quarter,
01:43every time Washington got the rock, an immediate foul, okay, to try to stop the clock, all right?
01:50Number two, Washington then starts triple-teaming Bam Adebayo, 94 feet on inbounds plays, right?
01:59Because they don't want to be embarrassed and have a guy go for 83.
02:03But if you think last night was something to celebrate, you're wrong.
02:07If you think last night should go down in the annals as one of the great individual performances in NBA
02:14history,
02:14you are wrong, last night was the Harlem Globetrotters against the Washington Generals.
02:21Last night was a small little snapshot of everything wrong with today's NBA game.
02:29That record shouldn't be celebrated.
02:31It shouldn't be acknowledged.
02:33It's a scam what we watched last night from missing free throws on purpose,
02:40so Bam Adebayo had a chance to get a rebound and then get hacked to go back to the free
02:45throw line.
02:46It was a joke.
02:48It was minor league at best.
02:50It was amateurish at worst.
02:52And it's everything wrong with today's NBA.
02:55You know, everything you said, I agree with that part of it.
02:59Also, to give people context on the game, Craig mentioned it was a 30-point game.
03:04Yes.
03:04It was not a competitive game.
03:05No.
03:05Let's look at some of these other games.
03:07When Luka scored 70 points, it ended up being the final score was 148-143.
03:13So, competitive game.
03:14And in that game, Luka had about 20 low 20s in free throw attempts, right?
03:1915 of 16.
03:20Okay.
03:20He was hot from three.
03:22Eight of 13 from three.
03:23Okay.
03:23And he took 33 shots overall.
03:25Okay.
03:26All the way to 73 points.
03:26But he went to the free throw line 16 times.
03:2816 times.
03:29Okay.
03:29Now, compare that real quick.
03:31We'll do one at a time here.
03:32Bam Adebayo last night.
03:33Went to the free throw line 43 times.
03:37He had 36 points from the free throw line.
03:41All right.
03:42Go ahead.
03:42Next one.
03:43All right.
03:43Let's get to Joel Embiid's 70-point game.
03:46Okay.
03:46Against the Spurs.
03:47Final score was 133-123.
03:50Misleading.
03:51The Sixers lost the fourth quarter.
03:54So, they pulled Joel Embiid out of the game.
03:56Okay.
03:56Okay.
03:56Joel Embiid is a generational scorer.
03:59In that game, he shot very well from the free throw line.
04:0321 of 23.
04:04Okay.
04:04But that guy gets to the free throw line probably on average about 14, maybe 15 times a game.
04:09He had a little bit more than that.
04:11And, obviously, he wanted to score as much as possible.
04:14But, again, that's half as many free throw attempts as what Bam Adebayo took last night.
04:20Last night.
04:20I'm sorry.
04:20We go through this.
04:21Last night was just a farce.
04:23It was.
04:23And I'm glad you brought that up.
04:24And we can talk about this.
04:26And I'm glad neither one of us has said Kobe Bryant yet, right?
04:29Oh, purpose.
04:30Yeah.
04:30Because this has nothing to do with Kobe Bryant.
04:33This is not, oh, yo, we shouldn't have, yo, besmirched the memory of the late Kobe Bryant.
04:38It's got nothing to do with that.
04:40It's got to do with the fact this is today's NBA.
04:44This is I have a chance to do something.
04:47And I'm going to change the way the game is played.
04:49I'm going to forget about competition.
04:52I'm going to forget about playing the game the right way.
04:54And I'm not a purist.
04:56But last night was criminal.
04:58What both the Heat did and what the Wizards did collectively.
05:03Yep.
05:03I know the Wizards claim we didn't want to be embarrassed.
05:06That's why we're triple teaming them, you know, 94 feet out.
05:09You kept hacking them to send them to the line.
05:12Stop.
05:13Stop.
05:14Okay?
05:15Last night should not be celebrated.
05:17And if I'm the commissioner, Adam Silver, and I got a lot of problems in my league, from tanking to
05:24load management to a host of other things, last night, I think, was the single worst regular season night in
05:33his commissionership.
05:34And he was out of his control, but he can do something about it today.
05:39Yeah.
05:39And today he's got to come out and say, I thought last night was egregious.
05:44I thought last night was bad for basketball.
05:48I thought last night was bad for our fans.
05:51And I want them to apologize to NBA fans for putting on that display last night.
