A replacement for David Montgomery.
Transcript
00:00There's good communication between the two.
00:02Ladies and gentlemen, according to Ian Rappaport,
00:07or excuse me, Tom Palisario,
00:10the Detroit Lions are signing running back Isaiah Pacheco.
00:15Okay, so former Kansas City Chief.
00:19Rutgers player, right?
00:21Yes, he was Rutgers.
00:24All right.
00:26To take Demos' place.
00:28If I'm not mistaken,
00:31did Pacheco complain about not getting the ball enough?
00:35I don't know.
00:36He played 13 games at Kansas City,
00:38had 118 carries,
00:40a 3.9-yard average,
00:43and one touchdown.
00:45And I don't know if there were rumblings or not
00:48that he wasn't happy with how many times
00:50he was carrying the football.
00:52I think he's a solid player.
00:55I don't know what the contract is yet.
00:58We'll see what comes up.
01:00I hope it's no more than a year.
01:02I'm not a huge Pacheco guy.
01:05It's a need, but it's not a huge need.
01:09Yeah.
01:09The good news with him is that he's young.
01:11He's entering year five,
01:12but he's had some injury issues.
01:14But he's entering year five,
01:16and he's only got 576 carries in his career.
01:19So it's a low-tread kind of guy,
01:22low-wear-on-the-tread kind of guy.
01:25He did have one pretty good year.
01:27His second year in the league had 935 yards rushing,
01:294.6 average, and seven touchdowns.
01:31In fact, his first two years,
01:33he had nearly 1,800 yards rushing,
01:374.7 yards per carry average,
01:39and he had 12 touchdowns total.
01:40Where is he as a pass catcher,
01:42if you mention it?
01:43He had 44 catches his second year in the league
01:46on 49 targets.
01:48Last year was 19 catches on 26 targets.
01:52So we kind of phased out in that offense,
01:54but again, a little banged up.
01:57We'll have to see what the price is, number one.
01:59Number two, what it does is,
02:02I won't say precludes them from doing it,
02:04but certainly they don't have to draft a running back
02:07in the draft if they don't want to.
02:11They don't have to?
02:12I'd still like to see them probably do that.
02:15But what does that mean for Sione Vocky if they do that?
02:18I don't know.
02:20You're talking about backup players at this point,
02:24and if this contract is only going to be for a year,
02:28then you have to have somebody on the roster.
02:30Right, I get it.
02:31So we'll see.
02:33I'll be waiting to see what this contract actually is.
02:38I'm not the biggest Pacheco guy, so.
02:41What I like about him, though, is he can run through,
02:46you know, when he was in goal line situations,
02:49he can go two or three yards and get you a touchdown.
02:53He's a tough runner.
02:54Yeah.
02:55Well, he's big.
02:55I think he's like 215 pounds, 5'10", but I mean, he's compact,
02:59but he's built pretty tough.
03:02If he can stay healthy, this will be fine for the Lions.
03:06And would it be an adequate replacement for Montgomery?
03:11Looked like they relied on Montgomery more than what Pacheco has been doing
03:15in his career lately, but it's probably because Pacheco's been hurt.
03:19We'll see.
03:21I'm still, eh, I'm lukewarm on it.
03:27Because it's really, for me, it's more about the money than anything else.
03:30Right.
03:30If this ends up being like a one-year $3 million deal or something like that,
03:33okay, great.
03:34But I don't know if that's going to be the case.
03:38Khalif Raymond went for $5 million.
03:40He signed a one-year $5.1 million deal with the Bears.
03:44Obviously a wide receiver.
03:46But that answers the question for who's going to be Montgomery's replacement.
03:51For right now, it's Isaiah Pacheco.
03:54Yeah.
03:55But like I said, it's going to be very interesting to see how much money he's going to get.
04:02248-539-9797 is the telephone number.
04:06Same number to text if you wanted to get through that way.
04:08The breaking news, the Lions are signing former Chiefs running back Isaiah Pacheco.
04:13This is from Tom Pellicero.
04:15And Pacheco played with the Kansas City Chiefs in his first four years of his career.
04:19As Stoney mentioned, from Rutgers.
04:21I remember him in college.
04:22I thought he was very good in college.
04:24And he had a couple really good years in Kansas City.
04:27But still not necessarily like the number one running back, even when he was there.
04:33I mean, he had some decent numbers, though.
04:37We'll see how that works out with the Detroit Lions and where they focus their attention next.
04:42Still need plenty of players.
04:45We're just getting started here, right?
04:47They've got first priorities, take care of the center.
04:50They got that.
04:51Now they've got maybe a swing tackle that they picked up yesterday as well.
04:55Today, they've got the running back who's a backup to Jameer Gibbs.
04:59And if asked to do more, is this a guy who can give you more?
05:02Sure, if he can stay healthy.
05:03Yeah.
05:04So that looks okay.
05:06Defense, they have yet to address with free agency.
05:09And I feel like that's the area where maybe you need to start getting on it.
05:14Correct.
05:14A little bit.
05:16There have been a number of defensive backs that have already been signed.
05:18So what is that leaving for the Detroit Lions?
05:21Stoney had some names earlier.
05:22We'll get back to some of those names in terms of the corners that are there.
05:26And we have to check.
05:27We haven't discussed the backup quarterback yet.
05:30No, we haven't.
05:31And that's another area that they're definitely going to have to address because Kyle Allen
05:35left in free agency.
05:37248-539-9797.
05:39This is 97.1.
