00:00Free agent frenzy.
00:01Some of the big moves from the first day of free agency in the NFL.
00:05Tom, lay it out.
00:07All right.
00:07Well, one of the big fish out there and Lions fans want him, but he's pricey.
00:10He's Tyler Linderbaum.
00:11He went to the Raiders for three years, 81 million.
00:15Wow.
00:15Good for him and well-deserved best center on the market.
00:19He hit it at the right time.
00:20A lot of center need around the NFL.
00:22And it feels like right now the Raiders, even outside of Linderbaum, are just signing everyone.
00:28They've gone with Jalen Naylor, Quiddy Paye, N'Kobe Dean, Quay Walker, Taron Johnson, Eric Stokes, re-signed.
00:35And they also added kicker Matt Gay.
00:38Think about this.
00:38They have cap space.
00:39They're not going to be paying a quarterback.
00:41They've got Ashton Gentry.
00:42How do you ignite the run game and help a new quarterback?
00:45You put all the resources around them and a good defense.
00:49And look, it's more money than I think the Lions were comfortable paying.
00:52And I can't beat the Lions up for doing it.
00:53They got a player for three years, 25 million total.
00:56Linderbaum's getting 27 a year.
00:58Well, they're going to have Mendoza, the rookie deal.
01:01They got Gentry, the rookie deal.
01:02They got Bowers, the rookie deal.
01:04I mean, they are trying to push that envelope with kind of like what the Bears are doing a little
01:09bit with Caleb Williams.
01:10I was surprised by the term, by the way.
01:12I thought he'd be a five-year guy.
01:14So maybe it was just all that money and it's like, who cares?
01:17And he'd get for agency again.
01:19But it's set up perfect for them to restructure next year and add some more years to it.
01:24All right, local name here, Kenneth Walker to the Chiefs.
01:28Three years, $43 million.
01:30Last year, the Chiefs running backs averaged 3.7 yards per carry.
01:34Mahomes oftentimes had to be their leading rusher.
01:37They won't even have Mahomes to start the year coming off the ACL.
01:40This is an investment in making their offense more balanced and taking the pressure off their quarterback.
01:44Taking the pressure off their quarterback, also taking the pressure off of a 14-year tight end in Kelsey.
01:52So it makes him a little bit more productive by having that threat of the run game.
01:57The question I have, and I'm sure they're going to do it in the draft.
02:00I already mentioned it earlier.
02:02They've got to rebuild that offensive line and protect Patrick Mahomes to also be able to open up holes for
02:09Kenneth Walker.
02:10All right, Travis Etienne leaves the Jags, goes to the Saints for four years, $52 million.
02:15Okay, he's going back to close to where he played college football.
02:20But what are you going there?
02:24Like, this is a career ender.
02:26They have no offensive line.
02:28They have no quarterback.
02:30The Saints are horrific.
02:33And I don't see them getting any better anytime soon.
02:36So Travis Etienne, nice contract.
02:37You're going there for the money.
02:38No problem with that.
02:40But we will hear from you in another three or four years.
02:44Maybe.
02:45Quick note, just lumping the two running backs together, Walker and Etienne.
02:49These aren't crazy contracts, like, per year.
02:52Like, Wondale Robinson's getting $17 million per season.
02:56Have things shifted so far against the running backs that you can justify deals like this?
03:01Now, I get what you're saying.
03:02From a Saints standpoint, they're not going anywhere.
03:04Paying a running back's not going to get them much further.
03:07Well, I like Walker much more than Etienne as a running back.
03:10I really like that move for the Chiefs.
03:12All right.
03:12This one, Malik Willis leaves the Packers, goes to the Dolphins for three years, $67.5 million.
03:17You know, we speculated because they're paying Tua all this dead money.
03:21Could they afford Malik Willis?
03:23The answer is yes.
03:25Who's he throwing the ball to?
03:27Good question.
03:28Are they going to be able to put a decent team around this guy, or is this just going
03:31to be money down the drain?
03:34Because that's how it feels to me.
03:35And how are they going to protect him?
03:36One of the things that was wrong with what Tua was doing was he was beat up all the time.
03:42Now, yeah, he has a concussion issue, but he had a concussion issue because he kept getting
03:46hit.
03:46I don't know how they protect him, but this is the best that they could afford.
03:51And I think it's a great signing for Miami, but to your point, I just don't know how do
03:56they protect him and who's he throwing the ball to?
03:59Yeah, I don't like this move at all for them.
04:01If I were them, they should have just done, got somebody that can play the position.
04:06A band-aid.
04:06Kirk Cousins.
04:07Not even that.
04:08I almost kind of waved the flag and threw in a towel this year.
04:11Full tank mode.
04:12Yeah.
04:12To me, they were perfect can for that, so I wouldn't like this if I was Paul Serra.
04:16All right, Tua leaves the Dolphins, what was cut yesterday, and goes to the Falcons.
04:22So, a big question mark as to, okay, what do they think about Michael Penix?
04:29Now, is Michael Penix even going to be available at the beginning of the season?
04:32Question mark, because of the ACL.
04:36So, it's only a one-year deal.
04:38Maybe they want him just to get to Michael Penix?
04:43I just, I'm trying to figure out what Atlanta's trying to do.
04:46I love this for both sides.
04:48But, they've got weapons for Tua to have some success, right, with Pitts the tight end and London at receiver
04:55and Bijon in the backfield.
04:56They had an offensive line that I think is pretty good, too.
04:59Kevin Stefanski is an offensive coach.
05:00For a one-year revitalize your career, this makes a lot of sense for Tua, right?
05:05And for the Falcons with a question mark at quarterback, it's not a commitment beyond.
05:08And if I was Tua, I would have taken a lot less money, do whatever you got to do, and
05:16go to Minnesota and compete for that job against a still-rookie quarterback that is finding his way,
05:24and we've found that it's not a great path, and work with Kevin O'Connell.
05:30All right, this one, I think, yesterday, of all the signings, might have been the paradigm shifter in terms of
05:35affecting the Super Bowl.
05:37I love this move for the 49ers.
05:39Mike Evans, three years, $60 million.
05:42Think about it.
05:42Wide receiver, one in that offense.
05:44You're going to get a lot of single coverage because the way this team runs the football, Kyle Shanahan offense,
05:49McCaffrey drawing linebackers and safeties,
05:52Evans all of a sudden gets to be that guy who wins one-on-one.
05:55I like this move a lot for them.
05:56Yeah, and with Kittle, when he's healthy, this is a great one-two-three punch for this team that was
06:05able to get a premier receiver at not a premier price.
06:09Exactly.
06:10Alec Pierce stays with the Colts.
06:12Four years, $110 million.
06:14He had 47 catches last year.
06:16This is surprising to me.
06:18I know he's a big play guy.
06:20He has a thousand-yard season, but on 47 catches, he feels very big play dependent.
06:24I actually think the better receiver on their team was traded yesterday.
06:28Pittman goes to Pittsburgh.
06:30Yes, I agree with you.
06:33And it's a head-scratcher as to why they gave him so much money.
06:37And the other question is, what's going on with Daniel Jones?
06:41He wants, it's reported, $50 million a year.
06:47That's my reaction, too.
06:49I mean, just sign the transition.
06:50I thought the transition tag was a gift.
06:52Like, he's coming off an Achilles.
06:55And when's he even going to be healthy?
06:57That was an absolute gift.
06:59Now he's looking at a gift horse in the mouth.
07:01Real quick comparison.
07:03J-Mo got three years, $80 million.
07:05Pierce, four years, $110.
07:06I'd rather have J-Mo.
07:08Oh, exactly.
07:09Yeah, I don't know this one.
07:10I don't get it at all.
07:11All right, Alex Anzalone, two years, $17 million to the Bucs.
07:16Oh, this is a classic overpay.
07:18What is he, 32 years old?
07:19And when he signed his new deal in Detroit, it was three years, $18 million.
07:23Not surprising that Detroit didn't re-sign him.
07:25They weren't going to give him a raise.
07:26They didn't even want to give him a raise last year.
07:28They gave him, what, an extra $300 grand?
07:30Just to say, hey, stop complaining and do your job?
07:34Well, he does have the pirate look with the long hair.
07:36Swashbuckler.
07:37You know, I thought he would have ended up in New York with the Jets.
07:40Yeah, the best place for him, for the look, would have been to end up in Minnesota.
07:44There you go.
07:45Thor.
07:45Be a Viking.
07:46Exactly.
07:46I would have thought he could have ended up in Chicago or New York with former Lions assistants.
07:50I didn't expect Tampa.
07:51And I question how much is left in the tank.
07:54Okay, guys, I got a bonus one.
07:55And I'm not going to hang out to dry because I've got some candidates here.
07:58Okay.
07:58Kyle Allen to the Bills.
08:00Leaves the Lions.
08:01Lions need a backup quarterback.
08:02They do.
08:03Would you rather have Derek Carr, Kirk Cousins, Russell Wilson, Joe Flacco, or Geno Smith?
08:10Um, Kirk Cousins.
08:12Give me his backup.
08:13You got to pay him more.
08:14How about Joe Flacco?
08:15I'm not sure you have to pay Kirk Cousins more.
08:19I mean, Kirk Cousins from the area, right?
08:21It's, it's, I, he's clearly going to be a backup somewhere if he decides that he wants
08:27to continue to play.
08:28And he's got some experience.
08:29If, if Jared Goff goes down, everyone's screwed.
08:32Yeah.
08:33It doesn't really matter.
08:34No.
08:35Give me Joe Flacco.
08:36Pro Bowl or Joe Flacco.
08:37No Russell Wilson left.
08:39No, I don't want Russell Wilson anywhere around us.
08:41I know we'll talk more backup quarterback when we get in the dog days, but it's, it's not
08:44at the forefront right now.
08:46They got bigger fish to fry.
08:47It's your free agent frenzy.
08:49It's 97.
08:49One.
