00:00The ISIS-inspired extremist teens who tried to detonate IEDs, improvised explosive devices,
00:06right outside of the New York City mayor's mansion, have been arraigned on terrorism charges.
00:10A newly released federal complaint alleges the young men wanted to cause more carnage
00:14than the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. One of the would-be bombers, Amir Balat,
00:20was asked if he was familiar with the Boston incident and if that is what he and his accomplice,
00:26Ibrahim Kayumi wanted to accomplish. Now, as outlined in the Fed's complaint,
00:31Balat gave this chilling response, quote, no, even bigger. It was only three deaths.
00:37When the FBI perp-walked the shackled teen past the press, he flashed a universal ISIS salute,
00:42holding up one index finger. Meanwhile, facing what could have been multiple fatalities in his city,
00:48New York City Mayor Zoram Memdani initially wasn't really focused on the terror threat. After the
00:54event, he released a statement that began with, quote, yesterday, white supremacist Jake Lang
00:59organized a protest outside Gracie Mansion, rooted in bigotry and racism. Such hate has no place in
01:04New York City. Then he got around to the terrorists, quote, the attempt to use an explosive device and
01:10hurt others is not only criminal, it is reprehensible and the antithesis of who we are.
01:14Finally, on Monday, he addressed the ISIS supporters who carried out the attempted attack.
01:19There is video of these two individuals throwing two devices towards the protest.
01:23The police department has determined that these were improvised explosive devices
01:27made to injure, maim or worse. Let me say this plainly. Anyone who comes to New York City to bring
01:34violence to our streets will be held accountable in accordance with the law.
01:38Still no mention of the radicalized nature of the attack. On his third crack at it, the mayor released
01:43a written statement later in the day saying the two men, quote, have been charged with committing a
01:47heinous act of terrorism and proclaiming their allegiance to ISIS. They should be held fully
01:52accountable for their actions. Now, he added, we will continue to keep New Yorkers safe. We will not
01:57tolerate terrorism or violence in our city. The family of the Georgia high school teacher killed
02:03when a student prank went horribly wrong is speaking out. Laura Hughes, the widow of 40-year-old
02:08Jason Hughes, is also a teacher at the same school where her husband taught. She told the New York
02:13times that her husband loved the student pranksters and was waiting not to angrily confront them but
02:19to join them in the annual tradition. I don't know, somehow this just makes the tragedy even more
02:25upsetting. Hughes slipped on a wet curb and fell into the street just as the teens were making their
02:30getaway. The driver of the pickup truck that ran him over, Jaden Wallace, has been charged with
02:35vehicular homicide and faces up to 15 years in prison. Now, all the teens were charged with littering and
02:40criminal trespassing and they tried to render aid to their teacher until paramedics arrived.
02:44The Post's national reporter, Georgia Worrell, has been following the story and she updated me
02:48on the latest Monday night. Hughes' widow wants the DA to drop those charges against all of the
02:54teenagers and she told the New York Times, quote, this is a terrible tragedy and our family is
03:00determined to prevent a separate tragedy from occurring, ruining the lives of these students.
03:05Laura continued, this would be counter to Jason's lifelong dedication of investing in the lives
03:11of these children. So when we called the local DA's office today, they weren't commenting on whether
03:17they were weighing Laura Hughes' response to their charges. So that situation is still developing and
03:25we'll see what happens here in the next couple of days. But what we do know is the students at
03:33the
03:33local high school that Hughes taught at. Today, they heartwarmingly held a memorial in his honor
03:41and the superintendent for that school district told the Post that he anticipated many more efforts
03:48and events will be held in the educator's honor here in the next coming days.
03:53The Democratic Party is less popular than ICE. Now, this is according to a new NBC News poll.
03:59Just 30% of respondents had a positive view of Democrats. 52% had a negative view for an overall
04:05net rating of minus 22. Please don't ask me to explain poll math. But to put that minus 22 into
04:12context, the same figure was minus 12 for President Trump, minus 14 for the Republican Party and minus 18
04:19for ICE. Not good news for the left. And frankly, with everyone in the red, it appears Americans are
04:25overwhelmingly frustrated right now. The only person, place, or thing less popular than Democrats?
04:32Iran. It's Iran. The ongoing partial government shutdown impacting the Department of Homeland
04:37Security prompted by the Democrats probably isn't helping them right about now. Now isn't a great
04:41time to withhold funding for national security. ABC News is reporting that Iran has sent out a
04:46possible, quote, operational trigger to activate sleeper assets around the globe in response to the
04:52war with the U.S. and Israel. The coded signal was reportedly given after the death of Ayatollah
04:57Ali Kemeni and prompted a federal alert to be sent to U.S. law enforcement agencies. With that kind of
05:02potential threat, I imagine it would be a good time to make sure those areas of the DHS that are
05:06currently strained by the shutdown get back to work with paychecks.
