Just over a year ago, Indonesia launched an ambitious program, cooking and delivering nutritious meals to 60 million people, mostly children, every day. It's the flagship initiative of President Prabowo Subianto who wants to use the military and police to expand the program even further.

00:14We've come to see a massive operation that's been going on all night.

00:43Workers here across three kitchens
00:46are cooking 9,000 meals.
00:50All part of President Prabowo's signature program,

00:58Staff are under the pump to get a massive amount of food prepped
01:02and onto trays before lunchtime.
01:07Today, 60 million people will be fed by the Indonesian government.
01:12They're serving around the same number of people as McDonald's does globally.
01:20This program is enormous.
01:23This kitchen is one of about 20,000 that are operating right across the country.
01:30Prabowo Subianto wants this program to feed more than 80 million people by the end of 2026.
01:35Most of those kids, and the price tag, let me tell you, 335 trillion Indonesian rupiah.
01:43That's about 30 billion Australian dollars.
01:47These kitchens we've come to are run by a private provider.
01:51By the end of this year, thousands will be operated by Indonesia's police and its armed forces.
