President Prabowo Subianto led the 80th Independence Day ceremony in Jakarta on Sunday, his first Aug 17 celebration since taking office as the country’s head of state last year.

The festive ceremony at the State Palace in Central Jakarta was attended by high-ranking officials, foreign dignitaries, veterans and more than 8,000 regular citizens who were lucky enough to make the audience quota.

00:00Indonesia marked its 80th Independence Day on Sunday with a state ceremony in Jakarta led by
00:09President Prabowo Subianto, his first since taking office last year. The celebration at the State
00:15Palace was attended by high-ranking officials, foreign dignitaries, veterans, and more than 8,000
00:21citizens. Festivities began with a cultural parade carrying replicas of the original red and white
00:27flag and the proclamation of independence text from the National Monument to the State Palace.
00:32The ceremony featured the raising of the national flag and the reading of the proclamation. It also
00:38featured hundreds of security officers on motorcycles and horses along with military
00:43and police academy drum bands in traditional attire. Celebrations continued with an air show
00:49including eight Air Force F-16 jets followed by cultural performances. The day concluded with
00:56music and dance and a flag-lowering ceremony in the afternoon.
