00:02A scaled back proposal for a protracted project that has key stakeholders unimpressed.
00:07The master plan itself to me is actually quite shocking. There's not many changes.
00:11When I have a look at it I think to myself it's just shuffling around areas and adding a few
00:16ovals.
00:17Defence Housing Australia's new proposal removes several bush blocks from the initial plan,
00:22adding new conservation space and two new football ovals.
00:26They've also purchased 500 hectares of land near Litchfield National Park to conserve the Gouldian Finch.
00:32But conservationists say existing offsets haven't worked so far.
00:36An offset is supposed to protect the endangered species, in this case the black-footed tree rat.
00:42They've already cleared more woodland and large trees from two crew that are in the two crew offset.
00:49The proposal has Northern Territory Parliament divided along party lines.
00:52The CLP Government are still firmly in support of the project, saying it will boost Darwin's housing supply.
00:58The Labor opposition, who did support the project when they were in Government, have welcomed the DHA's proposed changes,
01:03but say there should still be a moratorium on development for now.
01:06We should have a proper area plan done and a moratorium until that plan is completed,
01:12so that all views and considerations and concerns can be aired by the community.
01:17Some feel their concerns have already been overlooked.
01:20We have a big beautiful cultural centre built here, but the land itself is what holds the culture and the
01:26knowledge
01:26and the history of our people, the plants and animals hold that.
01:29That's not being taken into consideration.
01:32DHA says it will be providing opportunities for feedback in the coming weeks.
